What washing machine would you buy?

I have an 18 month old
I never seem to get my washing pile down
I use real nappies on my boy, who while might potty train soon-ish I hope to have another child in the (not too distant, if I can persuade DH) future

Only had this one just over a year. It?s a bekko. It was a cheapy. Was repaired under warranty twice, but have decided to just buy new one rather than pay for repairs!

So, need a new machine, but which one.

we have bosch one its great. Has a large drum so you can wash duvets (except for king size) too which is handy. And plenty of room for big loads of cloth nappies. We have had it about 4 years now and no sign of any major problems other than basic cheap maintenance stuff.

A Mièle. We had a Bosch & it gave out after only 3 years. I do an average of 1 wash per day. We are 4 & the dc get incredibly filthy & stained. The Mièle is worth every pennny.

Do not buy a hotpoint! Washer or Dryer. They are now made by indesit and have changed all the working bits but kept the name. I have had nothing but trouble with mine.

My washer repair man said the best washing machine at the moment is a Bosch.

do you really think so CountessDracula?
If you take into account buying one and paying for either insurance or call out fees? plus my friends was nearly a fortnight getting fixed. I have 4 loads of washing a day....Just couldn't wait that long! Plus as I said at the time I couldn't have afforded to just buy one outright, so would have had to have done some kind of monthly payment thing anyway (probably with interest added on!)

Have a look here

Thanks for your advice ladies. Have looked on www.washerhelp.co.uk and read your comments, and have done this research:

Entry level (basic) models (Kelkoo prices)
Miele - £489
Zanussi - £219
Bosch - £270
AEG - £296

Really not sure!!! I know buying cheap means buying more often, which is a hassle. Also quality tends to have longer warranties. But it?s still over £200 more for Miele!

Maybe look at the features of the individual machines, ours had to have a delay timer, not all of them do. so that might be a deciding factor.

Miele, Siemens or Bosch are best.

I have had a Siemens washer-dryer and currently have Siemens washer and separate condenser dryer. Both are excellent.

I've had an AEG for 11 years and no problems at all- it coped with real nappies wonderfully and hard water is ok too. My mum's AEG lasted 18 years until she had to get a combined washer/dryer...yes she chose AEG again, hardly surprising!. Apparantly the old AEG is still going strong with her friend at almost 22 years. AEG have been sold since this so I'm not sure if the quality is as good. I have an AEG machine in my rental flat and its brill. As you can see i'm a bit of a fan of AEG and would only really consider a Miele instead.

Bosch- try Co-op online- excellent prices, and quick and free delivery

saadia · 02/11/2007 07:05

We have a Bosch which has just conked out, after seven years and will hopefully be receiving our Miele today - after reading this thread I am so glad we opted for that.
