Bath mat you can wash

IrmaFayLear · 14/01/2021 10:47

Decided to replace thinning, miserable bath mats.

But I’ve had previous ones that do go in the washing machine, but refuse to be spun, and remain waterlogged for weeks until they go mouldy and have to be chucked away.

Any advice?

Ah I had this problem recently and discovered if you put just one in on its own it's got nothing to move against (if that makes sense) put two in and they spin brilliantly. Or pop some towels in that will help them spin off. I have some from Aldi and Ikea and they are both like this.

lazylinguist · 14/01/2021 11:44

Weird. I just buy normal bath mats and have never had any trouble washing or spinning them, nor have any gone mouldy. They last for years. Are you sure it's not your washing machine that's at fault?

PeachScone · 14/01/2021 11:46

I bought the towelling ones like you get in hotels - have four that rotate and get washed frequently.

Therealone · 14/01/2021 11:50

I buy the towelling bath mats from John Lewis, wash them weekly with the towels no problems. I hang mine on the heated towel rail after use. I've had my white ones many years.
I wash at 60.

This is an example of what I mean www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-egyptian-cotton-bath-mat/p4839339

We've got the IKEA Toftbo ones, just wash and dry them with the towels, they usually dry quicker than the body towels.

halcyondays · 14/01/2021 12:11

I’ve got that Ikea one too, it’s great, washed well and dries quickly.

TierFourTears · 14/01/2021 12:14

Plus one for the IKEA ones.

IrmaFayLear · 14/01/2021 12:18

Thanks everyone.

The ones I had that wouldn’t spin were those plush-type very thick sort. Or the ones with big loops.

Good tip about washing with other stuff, though. Thanks!

Yep we have one from Ikea too. Washes and tumble dries great. Sling it in with towels. Probably over 5 years old and still going strong.

user1471523870 · 14/01/2021 13:46

I am also thinking on moving to mats that are more similar to towels, if you see what I mean.
Mine are the 'big loops' ones and I love the look of them, the fact that after years of use they still look like new and I have no problem with the washing (don't ask me why, no idea, I just chuck them in with the towels and they get washed normally).

BUT I think they tend to attract lot of dirt and they take up a lot of space both in the washing machine and in the cupboard. I have 3 of them that I rotate, but I would like to rotate more often and don't have enough space!

Another vote for Ikea Toftbo.

I got a very similar one in Sainsburys but it just seems to get water logged and doesn't dry quickly, so wouldn't recommend that one.

altforvarmt · 14/01/2021 14:01

I also have Ikea Toftbo bath mats. They feel lovely underfoot, and dry quickly after use and after being washed.

TheDogsMother · 14/01/2021 14:03

Another vote for the John Lewis ones or for something more plush this one from Made. They wash well and just give them a good shake when they come out of the machine to fluff them up.

IrmaFayLear · 14/01/2021 14:17

I’ll have a look at those suggestions.

M&S do lovely chenille type bath mats in lots of colours. I love the pale blue and the pink and white star one.

Belindabelle · 15/01/2021 16:50

I have mostly given up on bath mats and use hand towels.

I keep a supply in a basket and take a fresh one every few days. It goes over the side of the bath or on the radiator to dry then gets chucked in the wash with the rest of the towels.

Redrivershore · 15/01/2021 21:23

I've found the Next bobble bath mats wash well and don't come out of the washing machine feeling too wet so dry very quickly

LlamaofDrama · 15/01/2021 21:26

Another vote for the IKEA ones!

Redrivershore · 15/01/2021 21:30

The Next ones look almost exactly the same as the Asda one's upthread that SoddingWeddings linked to, they probably are but Next charge a bit more.

norijunior · 15/01/2021 21:35

'Quick dry' ones (John Lewis for example sell sell some) wash without getting waterlogged.

ReindeersAhoy · 15/01/2021 21:47

I was going to say IKEA ones too. Wash well and dry quickly.

Pipandmum · 15/01/2021 21:51

I have big thick ikea ones and just wash and throw in dryer.

toomuchfaster · 15/01/2021 22:04

I have Dunelm ones that I chuck in with the towels.
