Best smelling laundry detergent?

I use Tesco own tabs and conditioner but the fresh wash smell is so brief and non existent once it's dry. Looking for recommendations of a strong fresh laundering product that lasts a little to make a switch too.

I think it's not really the detergent that gives the good smells, it's the fabric softener.
I use yellow Lenor, pink comfort or blue comfort.
Never blue Lenor! >Envy

Fairy liquid tablets

RainbowRaine · 03/01/2021 12:08

Lavish unstoppables (I think that's what they are called)

2me2u2u2me · 04/01/2021 06:15

I Chuck a handful of unstoppables in with own brand liquid and capful of comfort, my washing smells lovely when it dries

MrsPerfect12 · 05/01/2021 01:09

I find I have to use double the amount of fabric conditioner for my washing to have any smell.
I normally use Ariel and whatever lenor/comfort is on offer.

Daz powder and Lenor gold orchid softener. It lasts forever

RatherLostPenguins · 05/01/2021 01:21

Pink Surf powder is the only detergent I've found to leave a nice smell afterwards even without fabric softener. We're currently using unscented non-bio due to skin issues flaring up for me with bio powder and we switch between different fabric softeners as I've found we get used to the smell of them, at the moment it's Lenor Gold Orchid which is lovely. I usually switch between blue Lenor and whatever is on offer.

You can just use general washing detergent and fabric conditioner, and put a few drops of essential oil in with the fabric conditioner. That way you can mix and match whatever scents you like - lemon, bergamot, lavender, eucalyptus, go to town till you find what you like. And changing up scents means you don't get so 'nose blind' to them.

I use Lidl bio powder (no scent) with a combination of their own sensitive fabric rinse - the white one - & Comfort honeysuckle & sandalwood, half and half.

It’s not a strong scent, but it is lovely and lingers a few days. DD1 was here for Christmas, I washed most of her stuff just before she left on Saturday and she’s been inhaling it at home Grin

GiantKitten · 05/01/2021 15:05

DD2 uses the Fresh unstoppables. It’s ok, but too strong for me.

(We buy her one as a random birthday or Christmas present - it’s like maracas!)

MoiJeJous · 06/01/2021 00:26

Fairy non bio detergent and fabric conditioner. Comfort Creations/Intense fabric conditioner also smell great and last.

ChochoCrazyCat · 06/01/2021 23:48

Ecover liquid detergent. It seems pricey at £8 but it lasts for 44 washes as you need to use very little. Smell is amazing and it's eco friendly too, without harsh chemicals.
It even gets reusable nappies completely clean and fresh so it's not short on cleaning power.

PigletJohn · 07/01/2021 20:46

I know this one.

If you always use (e.g.) Persil, you become habituated to the scent, and don't notice it. Like if you worked in a fish shop or a stable yard.

if you want to smell the laundry, have three or more boxes or bottles of different product, and use them in rotation, a different one each week.

Next time you use Persil (or whatever) you will be surprised how strong it smells.

Unless you are a smoker, of course.

Thanks everyone. Some great suggestions here to go out and try! 😃

Method tropical coconut fabric softener and the Method green laundry detergent

Itsokthanks · 12/01/2021 18:25

Don't use unstoppables unless you like overbearing smells. We were given some hand me downs by someone that uses it and despite several washes the clothes still have a very sickly sweet headache inducing smell.

Dereg · 12/01/2021 18:27

The Ecover ones are all great & I only use about a tablespoon of liquid in each wash.

30not13 · 12/01/2021 18:33

Fairy conditioner, but it's so strong I only use a quarter of the recommended dosing amount, still plenty enough to soften and scent it.

dementedma · 12/01/2021 18:38

Smol. You get it delivered in cardboard sleeves to cut out all the plastic tubs and bottles. Its environmentally friendly, washes well and smells lovely. Try it. You wont go back to supermarket stuff.

tartantroosers · 12/01/2021 18:54

Another vote for Fairy here. Strong smells on laundry give me migraine.

Possiblynotever · 12/01/2021 20:14

I love the Lenor Orchid

LowestEbb · 16/01/2021 20:25

Following!

Chalkcheese · 16/01/2021 20:36

I have more than one detergent and more than one softener. Sometimes mix it up with some scent booster or tumble dryer sheets. Stops you going nose blind!

Chalkcheese · 16/01/2021 20:38

Also allergies can develop over time from over use of one product so changing them limits exposure and risk of developing an allergic reaction. It's the same with food and other allergens. I also regularly switch cleaning products for this reason. And because novelty and variety are fun

Yes - this! Just got some yesterday and it smells lovely.
