HELP ME! Sellotape tack on my work surfaces

andpeggy1 · 14/12/2020 19:14

So some bright spark (moi) decided my kitchen island would be a great wrapping station. Stuck several strips of tape on the edges for ease of use whilst trying to hold down wrapping paper, and trying to keep the cat out the way.
Now all wrapped n feeling accomplished, but now I'm
Left with hundreds of sticky tacky marks on the work surface left from the tape. I've tried dettol anti bac spray n it's done sod all.

Please someone help! All suggestions welcome (including don't do it again silly girl)

Hot water and washing up liquid or

WD40

If above fails, lighter fuel and then really wash down afterwards

efeslight · 14/12/2020 19:17

Mayonnaise or olive oil

Scarby9 · 14/12/2020 19:17

Sticky Stuff from Lakeland.

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 14/12/2020 19:19

WD40 or olive/sunflower oil, same gets rid of residual stickiness from home waxing kit so should work on sellotape!

Joolsin · 14/12/2020 19:20

@Scarby9

Sticky Stuff from Lakeland.
Yes, I can't live without this stuff!! Sometimes Lidl or Aldi have it on special too.
Joolsin · 14/12/2020 19:21

Oops, also, it's called Sticky Stuff Remover

Unescorted · 14/12/2020 19:22

Bicarb and oil.

Biancadelrioisback · 14/12/2020 20:48

WD40.
It's amazing stuff

Confusedandshaken · 14/12/2020 21:14

Wd40. Or hairspray, cheap stuff will do. I have a tin I keep exclusively for little emergencies that need solvent.

OublietteBravo · 14/12/2020 21:16

What are your work surfaces made of?

Aerielview · 14/12/2020 21:19

WD40

andpeggy1 · 14/12/2020 22:24

Thanks for the reply's I've added wd40 to the shopping for tomorrow.

My work surface is only that wood effect Formica, nothing particularly fancy.

Pink stuff paste, try a small area first as it's abrasive. Got all the residue off my new window frames last year when I stupidly used tape for my Christmas lights.

hernameis · 16/12/2020 09:49

Rub a little peanut butter on it, that always lifts sticker residue.

sleepyhead · 16/12/2020 09:51

Furniture polish works as well - the cheap stuff that kind of smells a bit like WD40 (I guess it's probably the same under the perfume).

Fullofpissandvinegar · 16/12/2020 09:54

Washing up liquid neat on a slightly damp microfibre cloth. Rub hard.

Ruddyfedup · 16/12/2020 10:10

Second furniture polish, blast in on and leave a few minutes

Grellbunt · 17/12/2020 22:54

Hand sanitiser

StanfordPines · 17/12/2020 22:56

Another vote for WD40 (or 3-in1). Every home should have a can anyway.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 17/12/2020 22:56

Peanut butter works surprisingly well at removing sticky residue.

1vandal2 · 17/12/2020 22:59

D10 Cleaner

RubbishQueen · 17/12/2020 23:00

Hand sanitizer or a cloth soaked in boiling water. Put the cloth on until the sticky stuff gets hot, then wipe away.

BikeRunSki · 17/12/2020 23:03

WD40
Olbas oil

kitchenissues · 17/12/2020 23:13

Elbow grease spray works brilliantly for me . You could also try the pink stuff which is really good too.

Bargebill19 · 17/12/2020 23:14

Nail varnish remover.
Alcohol. - sanitizer or drinkable.
