Towels - where do you buy yours?

I’m looking to replace some towels which have seen better days.

Any recommendations?

It’s been ages since I bought any, so not sure where I will find good quality at a decent price. Is under £15 for a bath sheet realistic?!

Hoping to get different colours for each family member, so colours that don’t run or fade would be great.

Asda towels are good and cheap. I’ve had some for 5 plus years, haven’t faded still look good. M&S are better and thicker but they do take longer to dry when they are washed.

EBearhug · 14/12/2020 10:01

John Lewis is good, and in my case, has the advantage of being about minutes walk away. A bath sheet is probably nearer £20, but you can see all the prices online.

I have had towels from Debenham in the past, too. Could be worth checking the closing down sale?

pinkbalconyrailing · 14/12/2020 10:03

at your price point it's supermarket ware.
they are usually ok.

I bought online cawo towels - organic cotton and with a very sturdy loop sown in.

Thanks - I hadn’t thought of m&s!

All our towels are from John Lewis, they usually have a lovely rainbow wall of towels. Not sure of prices, been a while since I last bought any - wait for their January sale.

Ginisatonic · 14/12/2020 10:11

Sainsbury’s usually have towels in their January sale. We have a few sets of their bath sheets.

I’ll check online. I bought some John Lewis towels in Waitrose a few years ago. I’m not sure if JL have different ranges, but the ones I have faded and look a bit miserable now (colour wise, anyway). And they weren’t particularly vibrant colours to begin with!

I had a quick look at Debenhams’ sale but I think delivery will be after Xmas now - not a problem in that I don’t need towels urgently, but just concerned they won’t be able to fulfill orders and I’ll be struggling to get money back etc.

Asda towels are brilliant. They wash well and stay soft plus they are thick and a decent price.

SpiderVictim · 14/12/2020 10:14

@TottiePlantagenet @Ginisatonic

Thanks for the tips! I’d be gutted to have bought now and then seen they were half price two weeks later!

Came on this thread as I need to replace my John Lewis towels. They are shit and tore after 6 years. Older jl towels I own are still perfect though.

Artinsurance · 14/12/2020 10:16

I bought 4 bath sheets and 6 hand towels from Dunelm 10 years ago and they have been in constant rotation since. Still in perfect condition.

CrotchetyQuaver · 14/12/2020 10:18

I have bought mine from M&S for many years, I've got some (nearing the end of their life now) from the mid 1980s still in use. They don't shrink up at the sides like some others do.

Cookerhood · 14/12/2020 10:22

When the first two DCs went to uni we bought them in Primark & 3 & 5 years later they are still doing well. Dc3's came from IKEA & are good. They have a loop on them which was good for hanging on student doors (although I imagine they spend most of their time on the floor).

tsmainsqueeze · 14/12/2020 10:29

Primark towels are very good , i only get them from there now , the cheaper ones , not sure what the ' luxury' ones are like .
Have bought basic m&s in the past but find primark much ,much better .

showmethegin · 14/12/2020 10:40

We bought new ones from M&S. They're brilliant, so thick especially when put in the dryer, they're like spa towels!

Silverstreaks · 14/12/2020 13:26

Asda towels have been really good quality. Haven't faded and the loops don't unravel like some. I'd definitely buy again but they just keep on performing so there is no excuse to replace

glasshalfsomething · 14/12/2020 13:33

Have been pleasantly surprised with Primark quality, although they did fade fairly quickly.

Big fan of IKEA. All sizes in the colours I wanted, no fade and that all important hook!

Mochudubh · 14/12/2020 18:24

Try TK Maxx, I got 2 Egyptian Cotton Bath sheets for £6 each earlier this year and they are lovely quality (Ralph Lauren, although I'm not really bothered about labels but these are really nice).

OHolyTights · 15/12/2020 09:40

I agree about the sales if they are genuine - my aim in life is never to pay full retail prices for anything if I can help it! I second TKMaxx, John Lewis, M&S and Ikea. I have seen Primark towels recommended lots of times too, so suspect they might be worth a look. I choose different colours or patterns for family members as towels stay in the bathroom inbetween - shock horror, it's MN Bingo - being laundered once weekly. I make sure the colours can all go in together though, so that I can do one towels and facecloths wash at 60 degrees. With not wanting towels that match, it doesn't matter if you follow the best bargains and get towels from different places. I usually find I can only buy one good towel at a time from TKMaxx, for example.

BlackCatShadow · 15/12/2020 09:50

I love the IKEA ones. I got some thick towels from Costco, but I much prefer using the thinner towels from ikea.

GGilbert · 16/12/2020 17:16

TK Maxx Orla Kiely or Margo Sibley .
Ikea used to be good too.

Nonamesavail · 16/12/2020 17:17

I use asda bath sheets they are wonderful

Zenithbear · 16/12/2020 17:23

Christy towels are reasonable in the sales.
They always stay soft without tumble drying, never go like cardboard. Last for years.
Once bought there was no going back to other towels for me.

24hrpantypeople · 16/12/2020 17:36

I've got a mix from IKEA, Debenhams and recently I got some really lovely bath sheets from Simply Be because they had the colour I wanted. They're a micro cotton, feel lovely and dry quickly. I was so impressed.

I had some Primark towels which were lovely and lasted ages but they've all gone ratty now so they're relegated to decorating rags.

TheTeenageYears · 16/12/2020 18:09

Costco towels are excellent and really good value but limited colours so depends what you are looking for.
