Booklice in new build

Emmyyyx · 11/11/2020 21:11

We moved into a new build January 20 and over the last week found booklice all in the main bathroom and then my sons room which is the room next to it!

Went on a hunt around the house and found multiple in all rooms - I’m killing loads every day, hoovering all the time, bleached all skirting and bathrooms!

It’s making me ill as I’m constantly on the hunt for them and constantly crying about it (I am pregnant so hormones won’t be helping)

Bought 2 plug in dehumidifiers and hygrometers and loads of disposable dehumidifiers and whacked the heating up the last 3 days but it’s not something I can do constantly!

I know they are harmless but it’s the fact they breed so quickly I feel if I’m not constantly on the go getting rid of them then my house will be over run.

Anyone had these in a new build and managed to get rid of them??? My partner tells me when the house dries out they will go but I can’t cope with another year of this!!

You can bring in an expert and investigate whether there is local moisture anywhere, the devices they use will instantly detect the problem area. I don't have that problem, but unfortunately they are in my bathroom. Because it is humid

Maybe get a dehumidifier if thats the only problem? It should be easier to eliminate if the problem is not behind the drywalls. Keep running it until you dont see them.

I ventilate very well but somehow I find them there again, I hope in time I won't see them, I hope none of us will.

I have and nothing really came up to be honest
I had a small leak before from a pipe but despite that being fixed they’re still here not willing to leave
keep posting if things improve for anyone

The condition is slightly better than my previous house. I hope they don't increase over time, I accepted they do happen occasionally. ok of course

Maybe there is mold somewhere? baseboards, under parquet, behind kitchen cabinets, bathroom? Or they breed inside the walls...

Asheee · 27/02/2024 22:29

Yeah Iv no idea
guess time will tell

Asheee · 27/02/2024 22:30

They are in random places in the rooms so I can’t pinpoint an area and when Iv had everything newly done how do you strip things like skirting boards and floors to find the source?

Skill6 · 28/02/2024 00:43

I thought I got rid of them but no as i have heaps of lego and figures in boxes I'm 90% sure they came with them when I moved, my dining table had some I'm 90% sure as I place lego that was still ina box on the table moved it down stair and saw them running on the box, My plan is to get a pest person in, but also I'm going to buy heaps and heaps of bug bombs and place them around the house

Skill6 · 28/02/2024 00:49

And the weird thing is I don't have any mould any where but they do live on dead insects and food scraps as well, it's annoying coz I have been living like this for more then 2 yrs now my wife is over it and says she wants to live a normal life as I'm so paranoid about it, for instance went up to my dads house and they were everywhere so I sprayed all my baby toys with vinegar and put them in the sun I saw a lot take off. I recently got a aircon so my plan is to put it on Cold and check the humidity thing I got as they r suppose to not survive under 50, my other plan is to get bug bombs heaps of them and put them everywhere only problem I have is I have heaps of lego and figures that r in box's so im scared they will hide in there and not die but I'll let u all no how I go, it's a nightmare

like for real... everybody... do not give up!! We can beat them!!! Just try whatever we can!! Lots of vacuum, seal food up in plastic containers!! Try keep places dry!!! Regularly dust or spray!!! They will eventually die one day!!! Thats what i am telling myself everyday 🥹🥹

Have you seen them much since you moved? Since when did you move?

I'm sure bug bombs don't destroy these creatures because new ones can and will hatch all the time. I recommend spraying only in early spring and late summer. They are already under control during the winter months and their numbers do not increase much. We just can't finish these, I sprayed them every day for 4 months but it didn't finish, I washed everything, moved and continued spraying but they still didn't finish, I'm very sorry about that...

Asheee · 28/02/2024 11:26

I’ve tried bug bombs
they hide very well and don’t go

Afitap · 28/02/2024 11:47

Everyone thinks I'm crazy. Do you have a solution for this?

Asheee · 28/02/2024 14:29

It’s hard to live with them as they multiply so much
if it was a couple a week you’d be ok
at least I think I would be

PigletJohn · 28/02/2024 16:34

Does anyone have a problem when they have a dry house with no damp and no areas of high humidity?

Yes I do, I find them in my bathroom and toilet. It has been 3 months since I moved to a dry house and they are still there even though I sprayed them. The region I live in is dry, there are no lakes, seas etc. In fact, I can say that I live in the driest region of my country. There is no damp area in my house either...

Afitap · 28/02/2024 17:31

I dry the laundry on the balcony and ventilate the kitchen and bathroom regularly. I threw away all the piles such as boxes and papers, but I couldn't get rid of them.

Lvky · 28/02/2024 17:35

Yes.... the problem for these bugs are multiplying way way way too fast..... i find them even worst than beg bugs.... i rather have bed bugs instead of them. At least ill be able to eliminate bed bugs but not this disgusting creatures......

Afitap · 28/02/2024 17:46

They multiply very quickly in newly built or renovated houses due to moisture and mold, hopefully they will decrease over time as they dry.

Skill6 · 28/02/2024 19:15

So basically what I am reading is there is no way to eliminate these creatures. What about pest control people can they do anything btw I live in Australia

Afitap · 28/02/2024 19:46

I too am tired of the nonsense of pest control people, when I spray myself I get more benefits than theirs. Since these will not go away completely, do not regret spending a lot of money in vain... You can also put the medicine in a bottle and spray it on the area regularly. Be sure it is no different from theirs! Meanwhile, drugs whose active ingredients are Lambda chyalothrin, deltamethrin and alphacypermethrin reduce their number significantly.
