Booklice in new build

Emmyyyx · 11/11/2020 21:11

We moved into a new build January 20 and over the last week found booklice all in the main bathroom and then my sons room which is the room next to it!

Went on a hunt around the house and found multiple in all rooms - I’m killing loads every day, hoovering all the time, bleached all skirting and bathrooms!

It’s making me ill as I’m constantly on the hunt for them and constantly crying about it (I am pregnant so hormones won’t be helping)

Bought 2 plug in dehumidifiers and hygrometers and loads of disposable dehumidifiers and whacked the heating up the last 3 days but it’s not something I can do constantly!

I know they are harmless but it’s the fact they breed so quickly I feel if I’m not constantly on the go getting rid of them then my house will be over run.

Anyone had these in a new build and managed to get rid of them??? My partner tells me when the house dries out they will go but I can’t cope with another year of this!!

Yep 👍

I settled down with a good book last night and noticed a little bug. On further inspection the book was infested with these bugs. The book has gone in the bin along with the others.

I know I need to inspect the whole house but I can’t bring myself to just yet, I’m absolutely freaking out. I feel like moving out.

Is your house newly built? If you only find it in your books, it's a good idea to freeze them. @CrochetQueen12

Yes it is. I’ve discovered some in the kitchen. There’s loads under the baseboards. I’ve never heard of this problem before.

PigletJohn · 26/02/2024 11:50

Kitchen, eh?

Containing boiling kettles, taps, sink, pipes and drains. And usually pipes in or under the floor.

Any of which might leak and cause damp or at least excess humidity.

Afitap · 26/02/2024 14:26

If you have a new home, it is very normal to encounter them, now you are together for life!

Asheee · 26/02/2024 14:51

Iv just found loads in flour jar
and I removed bed all the lock boards and put diatomaceous earth not having a good day

Asheee · 26/02/2024 14:52

all the kick boards a couple weeks ago

Afitap · 26/02/2024 16:48

I'm having a terrible day too. Even though I moved away because of them, I saw them again today and I accepted with tears that I can't get rid of them for the rest of my life.

Asheee · 26/02/2024 17:45

Oh no
is it just as many?
they do say when you move you tend to take them with you

does DE kills them? I am so stressed about how summer gunna be 😭😭😭 and so afraid of bringing them to my other houses...

Afitap · 26/02/2024 20:04

Today, I realized once again that moving is not the solution. I think I need to get used to keeping them under control with regular spraying and living with them. Yes, I'm crying as I write this!

Asheee · 26/02/2024 20:08

I was told DE helps dry the skeleton out I’m not sure how effective it is
and I have been crying loads too as I feel like moving

I’m so sorry to hear this

Afitap · 26/02/2024 20:18

They have taken over our lives and while we are crying, they are happy and careless...

Lvky · 27/02/2024 00:09

Me too... I cried alot about it...I google and reddit almost everyday about them.... it never seems its big problem for the others.....I wonder if its we ade the only few that have them all around the house🥹😭😭😭....

Asheee · 27/02/2024 08:20

How many are you getting in your rooms

Afitap · 27/02/2024 08:48

Since I moved I only find them in the bathroom and toilet, usually 1 or 2 and that's enough to break me...

Asheee · 27/02/2024 11:58

Iv got it a lot worse t be honest in a lot more areas than you

Do you find it too much? Even though summer hasn't come yet

Asheee · 27/02/2024 14:56

Yes I do
hence had a breakdown with the flour jar the other day but i have no choice until they decide to leave
as they most likely will follow
me elsewhere in different home

Afitap · 27/02/2024 15:16

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any escape from them, I stayed in that house for only 3 months and moved out with little belongings, but they came with me. I think we need to get used to living with these in every field.

Asheee · 27/02/2024 19:03

That is so sad I hope and pray things improve for all those who are affected with these
I am also dreading the hot wether

Asheee · 27/02/2024 19:05

Everyone keeps saying there must be mould or damp for them to survive but unless you physically see it how do you determine where it is
like I said I hope all those affected are alleviated of this problem very soon
