I still use them

AllTheCakes · 06/11/2020 20:59

We got rid of ours. Not nostalgic about them and haven’t missed them. There’s so much choice on streaming these days, I don’t see a need for them any more.

chipsandpeas · 06/11/2020 21:02

try somewhere like music magpie - might not get a lot for them but worth a look

ZoeCM · 06/11/2020 21:04

One of the advantages of buying physical copies is that they can't be altered the way they are by streaming services. For example, the Michael Jackson episode of The Simpsons has been removed from Disney+ and is no longer shown on other channels either.

LittleGungHo · 06/11/2020 21:19

I got rid of my CD's but for nostalgia I took a photos of my favourites so I could download them or play them online

SidneyCasing · 06/11/2020 21:24

I got rid of the CD's a few years ago, finally persuaded DH that he didn't need hundreds of DVD's during a mad lockdown clear out so they all went this year. I have no need for them at all. DS is a collector though so there is a steady pile of CD's gathering in his room

Bluntness100 · 06/11/2020 21:26

We got rid of ours over a decade ago, my husband put them best ones on to a hard drive but it was pointless we have everything streaming now

We gave ours to charity, don’t miss them.

skankingpiglet · 06/11/2020 21:28

I have streamlined our collections of CDs and DVDs but have no intention of getting rid of the rest. There are often films the DCs want to watch which aren't available on Sky or Netflix and I like to have hard copies of favourite music. I find the quality of the music is better from CD too.

Pipandmum · 06/11/2020 21:28

We still watch the odd DVD. I also get CDs. But if you don't get rid. Give to charity shop and if they don't want them then dump.

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 06/11/2020 22:43

I've music magpied mine. I got £30 for CDs. I don't have a CD player any more so there was no point. DVDs: we've kept perennial favourites like Elf and a couple of others but the rest have gone to school fayres, charity and friends.

InFiveMins · 06/11/2020 22:46

I buy DVDs all the time - my friends and family mock me but I LOVE buying them - if I enjoy a film or a TV series I love to have it on DVD so I can watch it again in the future. I watch a DVD of some sort weekly.

I also have loads of CDs in storage but I never use them and will be getting rid of them soon - I'm sad to do this though! I haven't played a CD in years but I still have ones from being about 12/13 that I feel I can't get rid of...

purpleme12 · 06/11/2020 22:47

@InFiveMins I agree

purpleme12 · 06/11/2020 22:48

But I do still play the odd CD on the dvd player

TheSandman · 06/11/2020 23:02

I love people like you. I have thousands of DVDs and CDs - my collection has been expanding recently as people get rid and the price in charity shops has plummeted. I literally buy CDs by the dozen these days and DVDs by the carrier bag - I think my record is 60 CDs from one shop at 25p each.

And the DVD is so much more than just the film. Yes a film may be available on streaming but which version? Which cut? I have multiple copies of some films - different edits, different 'extras' on the disc.

Cds - more than just the music. Sleeve notes! Art! - and as someone very wise once said - you can't roll a spliff on an MP3.

purpleme12 · 06/11/2020 23:05

Not to forget the extras on DVDs!

OutComeTheWolves · 06/11/2020 23:14

I'm not fussed about dvds but I still have loads of cds and books.

purpleme12 · 06/11/2020 23:17

Yes books too!
God I'm just really old school aren't I

Dazedandconfused10 · 06/11/2020 23:21

I must got rid of all my books, CDs and dvds. I dont even have a CD player so keeping them was utterly pointless

purpleme12 · 06/11/2020 23:22

I don't either. I play them on the dvd player

caringcarer · 06/11/2020 23:27

I play CDs in the car. I keep loads of dvds in holiday home in case it rains. Jigsaws and games too.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 06/11/2020 23:28

We got rid of all our cds and dvds years ago to a charity shop. I don’t think many people use them anymore.

TheGirlWhoLived · 06/11/2020 23:31

I put all mine in a large cd/dvd case (labelled) without the boxes and inserts etc. Meant I have them on hand to take to holiday homes and in the car but I don’t have them taking up huge amounts of space. Win win!

TheSandman · 07/11/2020 00:09

My DVDs go in A5 binders - sleeves in polypockets. 35+ disks to a lever arch binder. (The width of 5 standard single DVD cases). Saves a shedload of space.

A5 lever arch ring-binders are not that expensive. But A4 lever arch ring-binders are cheaper. I just cut them down with a Stanley knife.

BasiliskStare · 07/11/2020 18:41

Dh & I got rind of all our DVDs and CDs - some music magpie etc - never missed a one. More downloading iTunes etc & the space they took up is great to have back - but of course , others will feel differently.

BasiliskStare · 07/11/2020 18:43

Oh and have gone down from 4000 books to very much fewer - hard to do the first few - but lots of books can be on kindle etc. Just less stuff to keep.
