Intergrated dishwasher recommendations

The catch on the door on our current dishwasher has broken its old probably not very energy efficient and has a few other minor things wrong so we are looking to replace it

Any recommendations for mid price dishwashers always had a cutlery basket but are drawers better? Have various Samsung appliances and always been very happy with them so was looking at a Samsung dishwasher but the integrated ones seem to be out of stock every where
So any recommendations please

We can see this thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best dishwasher page with plenty of great integrated options. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

Avoid indesit mine is rubbish, only a year old & nothing comes out clean

blametheparents · 21/10/2020 07:38

Bosch!
I like it because it is so quiet. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen and the noise of it running it not intrusive at all.
It has a cutlery drawer rather than a basket.

I have a Fischer & Paykel double drawer dishwasher and love it, but we’re a family of just 3 it’s not the cheapest option.

I really like a cutlery drawer - you can line all your knives, forks, spoons etc up and then just grab the whole lot to put back in the drawer.
Definitely cleans as well as a basket.

That’s good to hear i like the idea that it leaves more room in the bottom rack but haven’t actually seen one with a tray and was wondering how effective it was

I got a new integrated Bosch about a year ago.

  • love the cultery drawer, like being able to group the knives, forks, spoons etc together.
The top drawer (or middle if you count the cultery drawer as the top one) has an easy 3-level adjustment feature so you can change it depending on size of things in the top or bottom.
  • very quiet (although I specifically brought one that had this as a feature).

Another feature of mine is that it projects the time remaining on to the floor below. I no doubt paid more for this feature, but I love it!

Personally, I find a cutlery drawer is a faff. Each item has to be lined up neatly between the guide rails and it's so fiddly and takes so long! And when you are unloading the dishwasher, you must carry the cutlery a handful at a time to where you keep it. Lots of to-ing and fro-ing across the kitchen. With a cutlery basket, on the other hand, you can just carry the whole basket to wherever you keep your clean cutlery, so it's quick and easy to put it away.

Chasingsquirrels · 21/10/2020 13:21

Horses for courses isn't it!

I can unload all of my plates, dishes, glasses, mugs, cultery & utensils from the dishwasher into the correct cupboards and drawers without moving. The only things which go elsewhere are pans, chopping boards and baking trays.
So on that basis grabbing all of the knives which are loaded together, then forks etc is much easier than sorting them out of the basket.

We tend to segment the cultery tray - back 1/3rd is long knives & utensils then the remaining 2/3rds viewed at a 2x2 grid would have knives, forks, spoons & teaspoons each in one of the squares.

I didn't think I'd like the cultery drawer but I really do.

I've got dishwasher envy now! I think mine must be an older model cos I just get a light on the floor when it is on.

This is a game changer. My mum has it, worth every penny.

I have a smeg. It is a good dishwasher but the top rack layout make is tricky to stack mugs. I guess Italians have little coffee cups rather than mugs like me!

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 22/10/2020 10:24

Our Siemens one is good, snd has a third level for cutlery. The cat likes it too, as it bounces a light on the floor with the remaining minutes.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/10/2020 19:02

We got a Neff with the cutlery drawer and a light (but no timer)

When I had the baskets , I bought two - one in use and one being filled .

The drawer does clean better I think because everything is seperate .

opinionatedfreak · 25/10/2020 06:53

I’ve got one that pops open at the end of the cycle.

I will never go back. Mine is Miele but I suspect other manufacturers will have thus feature too.

EerilyDeleted · 25/10/2020 06:59

We've got the Bosch at work and the equivalent non-integrated one at home. They are very quiet. However I hate the cutlery drawer, much preferred the basket in our old one. Fiddly to load and the lost height is a pain - we can either have 12" dinner plates in the bottom rack or tall glasses in the top one but not both at the same time. The cutlery doesn't get as clean in the drawer as our old one did in the basket. The extra capacity in the bottom rack doesn't make up for it in any way and it's no quicker to unload the cutlery than from a basket.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 25/10/2020 12:29

I have a Bosch with the time projection and cutlery drawer and I love it an indecent amount GrinGrin

I got used the cutlery draw quickly, and found that the additional seconds spent loading it (which are negligible once you get the hang of it), are less that the time saved in not having to sort it after. It cleans the cutlery so much better than a basket, and the space saved on the bottom drawer is amazing. The only downside of the cutlery drawer is that if you (or more often one of the dc) slams it shut everything jumps and then has to be put back. But that happens in this house nowadays about once a month tops (again - you get used to it and I now have the dc trained)

I find that the way the middle and bottom trays are set out makes efficient loading super easy - I can fit so much in it and it cleans everything even when stuff is stacked on top of other stuff.

I have always had Bosch which I loved, but in this house we have put the Fisher & Paykel Double Dishdrawer in. I am amazed just how much the dishdrawers hold and like the thing of being able to run one whilst filling the other.

My friend has just had the AEG with comfort lift which she loves - definitely expensive though.

Annasgirl · 28/10/2020 17:45

I have the Siemens and it is amazing - I always had less expensive before but this is worth it. We have the cutlery drawer and the blue light which tells us the time left - totally love it all. If we ever change over I would love the Fischer and Paykel double drawer one, we had one in a holiday rental and I fell in love with it.

Bowerbird5 · 30/10/2020 10:37

I have a Neff as that is what the kitchen fitters use. Seems fine. It has the light and time which I didn’t know until I walked into a dark kitchen one night not long after we had it. The cutlery basket is great as it slides along to wherever you need it.
DH has gone back to washing up by hand. No idea why. I load it if greasy things or because I can’t be bothered. There are only the two of us now unless the kids come over for dinner.
