is anyone else as new as me?

Shannaratiger · 14/10/2007 12:12

i am struggling a little bit with the FLYlady page, working out at what stage my control journal should be at.

SuperMonkey · 14/10/2007 13:06

I think we're all doing it slightly differently - adapting it to the way it works best for each individual. I don't have a control journal, I've just set up reminders on Outlook which pop up during the day to tell me what I should have done from my routine.

My Monday routine will look roughly like:

Morning
Get clean, dressed and make up on
Make bed
Give DS breakfast
Empty dishwasher
Get my own breakfast
Clear away breakfast stuff
2 minute hotspot
5 minute room rescue (utility room)
15 minute decluttering (location to be decided)
Kelly's mission (whatever it will be)
What's for tea?

Afternoon/evening
Cook tea
Load dishwasher
Complete one admin task from list

Bedtime
2 minute hotspot
Put dishwasher on
Rubbish out
Shine sink
Put all dirty washing in basket
Put clothes out for tomorrow

Hope that helps!

flowerybeanbag · 14/10/2007 13:14

Hi all

Going quite well today, kitchen is sparkly, have done hotspots and 15 minutes declutter, washing etc so not too far off being back on track tomorrow.

Welcome shannaratiger nice to see you, hope your sink is nice and shiny

Thanks SA for that useful and not-too-cryptic paraprase of yesterday's uncharacteric high drama on the Employment topic! And Monkey you are right, we do have our first MNer who is no longer eligible for free advice from me!

I'm going to spend a bit of me-time now, DS is still having his nap, and the Railway Children is on!

flowerybeanbag · 14/10/2007 13:15

paraphrase

Shannaratiger · 14/10/2007 14:33

thanks supermonkey, i'm aiming 4 something like that.
have really got to remeber baby steps as i am feeling the urge to blitz everything.
yes flowerybeanbag my sink is nice and shiny.
i don't feel depressed now everytime i look at it

SuperMonkey · 14/10/2007 16:45

15 minutes of decluttering per day makes a massive difference over the course of a week. The reason I like this so much is that there is no need to blitz, you just need to be patient (and keep on top of the things you've already done) and it all comes together

funnypeculiar · 14/10/2007 19:15

evening all - & welcome shannaratiger!

Not much flying all weekend - I'm looking forwards to getting things back in control again tomorrow too ... although I'm working 3 days next week (normally only do 2) so I'll have to be strict with myself and make sure i get things done

Shannaratiger · 14/10/2007 19:44

evening
yes am really managing to keep the kitchen sorted now have decluttered the side. problem now is need to rearrange all the cupboards to fit in all the stuff am trying to put away!
i'm hoping will have most sorted in about 3 months, remembering baby steps.

TrinityRhino · 14/10/2007 19:46

I promise to start flying tomorrow

What do I have to do?????????????

Shannaratiger · 14/10/2007 19:55

trinity how many days have u been a FLYbabe, if u don't mind me asking?

systemsaddict · 14/10/2007 20:00

Hi Trinity - we are just doing the 31 days of babysteps, of which the first one is 'shine your sink' - so you start here

TrinityRhino · 14/10/2007 20:01

started it in earnest about 2 years ago, maybe more, when i first heard of it.
lasted about 2 weeks

diped into threads occasionally,
since then....even shined my sink a couple of times
but I really am having trouble with even motivating myself to di that
I am also battling a 7 yr old and 2 yr old who both seem to have no clue as to how to behave and fight all the time and the 7 yr old is on 2 weeks holiday
we have no clothes to wear ever, always odd, too cold for the weath, each others etc

I never manage to sort to cook a meal, we constantly eat shite
I cant find anything, things are alwasy getting broken

BUT the wprst thing is its been like thsai fopr YEARS

I REALLY HATE IT but feel like I'm drowming every day
I open my eyes and wish I could stay in bed all day and just be comfy
I also try and escape my house and go to my friends which make it worse and worse and waorse
nothing gets done whan I'm out, more washing gets made by newly toilet training dd2 and when we get home the place is still a rtip, I throw some food at them and chuck them in bed and wish trhe day was over

sorry I answered more than you asked

TrinityRhino · 14/10/2007 20:11

okay
I have just moved the 10 loads of dirty washing off of the floor directly infront of the sink so that I can get to it

Shannaratiger · 14/10/2007 20:11

Sounds like u have loads on your plate. Have friends in the same situation so u r definately not alone. Sorry guess that wasn't v. helpful.

TrinityRhino · 14/10/2007 20:14

its nice to know I'm not alone and nice to 'speak' to someone

sorry I rambled at you

Shannaratiger · 14/10/2007 20:16

have just got ds into cot, better find something to eat. haven't got to meal planning yet, besides every one eats different meals (that's 4!)

Shannaratiger · 14/10/2007 20:17

i know rambling makes u feel better, but can't do it with men.

TrinityRhino · 14/10/2007 20:19

meal planning, god I dream of managing to do that but right now

pft no chance

ok, I am attacking the sink

funnypeculiar · 14/10/2007 20:21

Oh Trinity - welcome back (and apologies for chasing you round mn )

I know what you mean. I'm sitting in our 'tidiest' room it's a tip. We have a shower in the corner, for example

Can you maybe pick just a few babysteps & go with them? For me, best ones so far would be:

  • sorting clothes for next day the night before (I'm amazed what a difference this makes)
  • 15 mins decluttering a day
  • 2 mins hotspot morning & night (although for me that just invovles keeping on top of my one serious hotspot ... it's not yet got any better
  • control journal. Having a lits written down of what I'm meant to do helps me. I love lists.

Other people may prioritise differently...

I can't say I'm YET seeing amazing results (ie the house doesn't look great). BUT I know that I've cleared out about half of my kitchen cupboards last week. And if I can keep going at that rate, it will make a difference. Eventually...

IamDaisy · 14/10/2007 20:23

I'm back...

today I have

got up and dressed to shoes
2 minute hot spot
5 minute room rescue

15 minute declutter (well it took a alot longer, but see below)
15 mins to myself
read saturday and sunday reminders
printed off the commandments which are pinned to the fridge freezer
read the testimonials

laid out clothes for tomorrow
2 minute hotspot

as well as all that I cleaned the bathroom and toilet, declutterd the living room bookcase and out things away or into the room they belong in, dusted all the shelves and the TV stand and fireplace, and hoovered from top to bottom, except for mine and DSs bedroom.

....Pheeeeeew

there is nothing like a visit from your extremely house proud MIL to shove a rocket up your arse

I've still got a load of pots to do from teatime and shine my sink, but that will be done before bed.

So, i feel willing and able to get back on track tomorrow, and am feelin very pleased with how most of my house is looking (only the office and my bedroom is letting the place down).

I've not had a chance to catch up with the thread, but will be back on track tomorrow.

Shannaratiger · 14/10/2007 20:27

I'm back
went for beans on toast.

SuperMonkey · 14/10/2007 20:49

Just got my 10 shirts ironed and I'm knackered. I hate ironing, I think I would do just about anything else. At least it won't be hanging over me now and I won't have any more to do for two weeks because it's half term.

unknownrebelbang · 14/10/2007 20:51

Not done much FLYing over the weekend. Had sooo much on with the boys and still feel a bit ropey.

Continued with the blitz on the living room though (really had no choice), and now have one neat corner of the lads' stuff, and one messy corner of all sorts, so lots better than it was, but feel the kitchen and bedroom (the two rooms where I've made real progress) have slipped a bit. Need to get those two rooms back on track, and now keep on top of the lounge...tomorrow.

My babystep for yesterday was about laundry, and I'm attempting to get it into some sort of routine. Sometimes feel like I'm drowning in washing - four lots of uniforms, three sets of scouting and karate stuff, plus a mucky footie kit, to say nothing of the lads' every day mucky messy stuff, so if I can get this sorted, will make a huge difference.

Shannaratiger · 14/10/2007 20:59

Well done for getting the ironing done, dp goes to work in creased shirts
