What are these little mites I keep seeing?

I live in a Victorian terrace and since moving here I see these little mites everywhere. They are beige coloured, ting and move fast, and can be seen with the naked eye. I see them in the bathroom, kitchen, bedroom. They fit the description of spider mites but I don't know why they are everywhere in my house as I thought they lived in plants.

Any idea what they are and how to get rid of them?

Dust mites probably. Not sure much can be done about them - vacuum more maybe?Wink

AntiHop · 30/09/2020 12:19

They can't be dust mites as they can't be seen with the naked eye.

Storm bugs ?

SirVixofVixHall · 30/09/2020 12:35

Or book lice ?

SirVixofVixHall · 30/09/2020 12:35

Can you take a pic OP ?

teacake89 · 30/09/2020 12:38

Silverfish maybe?

PattyPan · 30/09/2020 13:04

Following because I think we have the same thing

DiscombobulatedAf · 30/09/2020 13:29

It could potentially be a carpet beetle

AntiHop · 30/09/2020 13:48

Definitely not carpet beetles. They are very distinctive.

@teacake89

Silverfish maybe?
Definitely not silver fish. They are darker.

Ah I think they might be called Book Lice, though they are not lice. They are what I think of when I say dust mites.

AriettyHomily · 30/09/2020 14:03

Moth larvae?

cushioncovers · 30/09/2020 14:17

Bed bugs? But they don't move that fast.

CombFromAShoe · 30/09/2020 16:07

Another vote for booklice. Harmless little things but they love humidity and damp.

Anordinarymum · 30/09/2020 16:09

Or weevils.. there was another thread about them recently. I find them quite sweet and harmless .. I don't mean to eat oops !

CombFromAShoe · 30/09/2020 16:13

Also re booklice, don't be fooled by all the pictures on google being with enormous zoom lenses. They are under 1mm each, beige and pretty speedy- you mentioned kitchen and bathroom which are both humid/damp areas.

Definitely not weevils, they are much lighter than that.

Not bed bugs. They are living in the wrong part of the house for that. I've never knowingly seen a bed bug but I've read about them, and this doesn't fit what I've read at all.

@AriettyHomily

Moth larvae?
Definitely not. They are moving fast, not wriggling that larvae would do. Plus I'm well acquainted with moth larvae from a previous clothes moths problem and this is very different.

OP you are gonna have to submit a pic here

TheHighestSardine · 30/09/2020 16:54

What size is "tiny"? 1mm? Half? What size legs as a proportion?

AntiHop · 30/09/2020 16:56

@SirVixofVixHall @CombFromAShoe @Saisong I think you're right about booklice. I've never heard of these before. They are most prominent in my bathroom and kitchen so that makes sense. They seem to be harmless, so that's good. Thanks for solving the mystery!

Hi,

Are you still finding these??

I noticed them in my bathroom last week and then dotted around the rooms upstairs.

Got 2 dehumidifiers on the go but still finding them and it’s making me ill as I’m constantly on the look out!
