Emptying water reservoir on tumble dryer

Notfeelinggreattoday · 24/09/2020 15:40

I have a condenser dryer so it collects the water
Do you all empty after every load ?
If so how do you remember , I often forget for a few days and then empty or in occasion the water light has come on to remind me
Mine holds a lot and some loads produce barely any water
Can it damage the machine if you forget ?

Yes, I empty after every load - easier to remember if it's a habit.
If it overflows and leaks into the machine it can cause serious damage.

IvySpivey · 24/09/2020 15:45

Open the water drawer and pull it out when you open the machine drawer.

IvySpivey · 24/09/2020 15:46

And don't forget the fluff filter too or you could end up with a fire.

Maybe you should line dry as much as possible

elfofftheshelf · 24/09/2020 15:48

Empty the water drawer and the fluff filter after every load (and always check before putting a load on).

JustCallMeGriffin · 24/09/2020 15:55

After every load, and the fluff filter.

I collect and use water from the condenser and dehumidifier to wash our recycling. It's not fit for any other use but saves clean water from being used to wash rubbish!

PurBal · 24/09/2020 16:01

Yes every load. And the lint filter. I tend to do it before a load rather than after, not sure why. Occasionally vacuum the lint filter too, known too many people have a tumble dryer fire.

QuentinWinters · 24/09/2020 16:02

I don't empty mine every time Blush

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/09/2020 16:03

I do it every load, but I can’t help thinking if it’s designed so that the water overflowing does serious damage then that’s an incredibly poorly designed dryer!

Notfeelinggreattoday · 24/09/2020 16:05

I do empty lint filter regularly
My reservoir is at bottom if machine and i have to remove front off to get to it and its really large , i got in to habit once if doing it after loads bit often found nothing much in it
When i buy a new one i will buy one with reservoir on top as will be a lot easier to empty then

Get it plumbed one then you dont have to .. nige has a light when it's full though!

Notfeelinggreattoday · 24/09/2020 16:06

Can't plumb it in as have no room so has to be freestanding in my kitchen

Ashdownstar · 24/09/2020 16:06

I do the filter every load, and the water when it reaches half full (can see easily on the model I have)
Mines just started making squeaky noises so someone coming to look at it tomorrow. I've given it a good clean (it's amazing how far the lint travels)

FreeButtonBee · 24/09/2020 16:07

I empty when the light comes on. Mine gets pretty full but never had a problem in the 5 years we've had the machine with overflow. I quite enjoy emptying it. although I hate emptying the lint!

BexR · 24/09/2020 16:08

Every load and it's usually pretty full

Xmasbaby11 · 24/09/2020 16:09

I empty mine a lot- probably once during the cycle and then at the end. Mine is at the top and is easy to empty. I also empty the lint filter at least once per cycle.

DilysPrice · 24/09/2020 16:13

Every load unless it’s been something really small and non-absorbent that needs to be done separately and would produce about an eggcup full of water.

But I have a sink right next to it so it’s no trouble. If it’s a big piping hot container from a load of towels etc and if I’m running a bath I’ll pour it in there. I’d use it for washing up but there’s three flights of stairs and my green principles have their limits.

WellTidy · 24/09/2020 16:15

I am clearly the exception and I empty mine every few loads. It isn’t full even then. I use the water to water the plants which are right outside the door to the utility room (where the dryer is) but it is good as ironing water too.

MitziK · 24/09/2020 16:20

Fluff filter every load so it's perfectly clean when I go back to it.

Water - every other. It's usually 2/3 full but I don't want to risk mould or dropping it onto the floor because it's heavy.

Condenser - when I am really, really desperate for something to do. Because it's a horrible, tedious job that annoys me.

DP's routine is 'why is this beeping? It beeped at me last time I tried to switch it on, so I switched it off and hung the clothes on the clothes horse instead.'

BrieAndChilli · 24/09/2020 16:23

My machine has the tray at the top so you pull it out like you do the powered tray on a washing machine. We looked at lots where it’s at the bottom and you have to pull the front off etc which seemed a right faff!

Jeremyironseverything · 24/09/2020 16:28

Flint filter every time. Water every few loads. If I'm not sure, I just pull it out a little bit and can tell from the weight of it, whether it needs emptying or not.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 24/09/2020 16:32

DP's routine is 'why is this beeping? It beeped at me last time I tried to switch it on, so I switched it off and hung the clothes on the clothes horse instead.'

Why is that so funny to me? :o

I just imagine him looking offended and saying "Well beep to you too!" then huffily hanging up the washing.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 24/09/2020 16:33

Oh, and I empty the water after every use.

It's just habit along with the lint tray.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 24/09/2020 16:38

Oh. I empty it when the light comes on to say it’s full. I thought that was what the light was for?

The tumble dryer is 14 years old now so I guess I haven’t done it any harm

Notfeelinggreattoday · 24/09/2020 16:41

@BrieAndChilli once this one goes i will def look for a water tray at top rather than the bottom as it is a pain and if full does spill
Im sure i would be better at remembering if was at the top
My dryer is on quite a lot , i prob do a load a day , i really do not know where all the washing comes from in my house only 4 of us and one dog , but with schools wanting clean uniform everyday thats creating more as we normally got a couple days wear before

You have either persuaded the DTwatCats to wear hidden cameras or you're DP's ex wife, aren't you?
