Mrs Hinch hamper ideas please!

Hi. I'm thinking about putting together a Mrs Hinch inspired hamper for part of Mums Christmas. (yes I know, but it is something she would like!) The thing is, while my mum is a big fan of hers I barely know anything, having not read any of the books, not following her on SM and the fact that I'm a bit of a mucky old slattern Wink ! The apple did indeed fall far from that tidy tree.
SO, I'd really appreciate some help from those of you who are more in the know than I. What would you expect/like to see in such a hamper?? Ideas most welcome! Thanks.

You're going to give your Mum a load of cleaning products for Christmas?

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/09/2020 17:09

She’s just released her own limited edition Bold washing tablets and fabric softener, that’d make sense. White vinegar spray. Minky wiping pads. Basically you need to go to B&M and Home Bargains.
Also wax melts.

onewish05 · 06/09/2020 17:09

Minky cloths, elbow grease, zoflora, fabulosa, scrub daddy sponges, the pink stuff, wax melts/burners/candles

Bluntness100 · 06/09/2020 17:11

I don’t understand, you want to buy your mother cleaning products for Christmas?

I like mrs hinch, I find her quite sweet and entertaining, I keep a clean house but would I fuck like a bag of cleaning products for Christmas.

Sennetti · 06/09/2020 17:11

'mums christmas' ?

do you mean your mums christmas PRESENTS?

BuffaloCauliflower · 06/09/2020 17:17

Why do people think people don’t know their own mums?

onewish05 · 06/09/2020 17:17

Why does it matter what you other people would want? She hasn't asked if it's a nice or good present. That's what she knows her mum would like....

Flamingnorahs · 06/09/2020 18:22

Thank you for the nice replies. To the others asking in a horrified way if I am buying my mum cleaning stuff for Christmas, yes I am. As ONE of her presents. I often make up hampers, it's not just a bag of stuff. I get a nice box, wrap it in cellophane, put a nice bow on, pit a lot if thought into it. I was intending on including her new books and making a blackboard sigg saying "mums Hinch Hamper" or something. Its NOT her main present, just an additional one. She has no real hobbies/interests but does love housework and keeping up to date with with the latest hacks, trends etc. This is the first time I have posted. Always been put off as I've seen some of the replies some people get. Thought I'd be safe enough with an innocent question on housekeeping. Cheers for making me feel a bit shit.

Fuck sake. Excuse typos Hmm

Fair enough, op. I have to say, though, the notion that someone "keeps up with the latest trends in housework" really amused me Grin
Each to their own.

Ohmyhell · 06/09/2020 18:43

I think it's a really lovely and thoughtful idea, OP! You obviously know your Mum really well and it sounds like something she'd love! Definitely have a look on Mrs Hinch's instagram for inspiration. I like the idea of including her books, plus the essential items that she uses, minky, pink stuff, white vinegar spray, etc. And as PP suggested, how about the new laundry products she has just released? Definitely think you'll get lots of inspiration from looking at her Instagram though!

Flamingnorahs · 06/09/2020 18:48

@ohmyhell thank you Flowers I'll have a gander. Did a google search but there was so much I didnt know where to start and what would be the favourites, hence asking on here (rather regret that now...) But the insta page is a fab suggestion. Thank you x

I would be so happy if someone gave me this for Christmas. Get to home bargins they have loads of her recommended products xx

Flamingolingo · 06/09/2020 19:03

I don’t think anyone is trying to make you feel rubbish, I think the concept of cleaning products as a present is fairly perplexing for many of us. I like a nice tidy house (I don’t live in one though), but I would probably freak out if someone gave me cleaning items as a gift.

culturally in this (and many other) countries, you wouldn’t think of giving a bunch of household cleaning items to a man, and many men still see cleaning as a woman’s domain. So I guess it’s the endemic cultural misogyny that many of us face that makes this such a weird present to receive.

It sounds like your mum might enjoy them though, which means it’s a thoughtful present, but please understand nobody is trying to upset you by questioning it.

Flamingnorahs · 06/09/2020 19:22

As I have said though, it is for my mum, who actually does enjoy cleaning, new products etc. I get it may be "amusing" to those who have different ideas. And its nothing to do with being sexist. I made my husband a "bread making" hamper from the kids a couple of years ago. It had a personalised apron, cook books, utensils, bowls, fancy ingredients etc. He was delighted. And again, this wasnt his main pressie, just a wee side one. I wasnt asking anyone what they would like, or what I should get her instead. I didn't put this on AIBU as I knew the responses I would get. I implied in my original post that Its a strange pressie but knew she would enjoy it. Its definitely not my taste but I'm not buying for me. I wanted to ask other hinch fans what the best things are and I really do appreciate the helpful replies.

I’d be delighted to receive a bread making hamper. Making bread is a relaxing hobby. Cleaning a house is a necessity for a harmonious life. And for many households the perception is that a dirty house = slovenly woman. If our house is dirty and my PIL visit they don’t ask DH why he hasn’t cleaned it. And when I was a student I got into a row with a housemate’s mother who seemed to think that as the only girl I was the live in maid 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, I don’t really follow Mrs Hinch but the pink stuff scrub is really good for getting marks off quartz worktops

Idbemonica1 · 06/09/2020 19:37

Hi Op if you are on instagram just follow Mrs Hinch for a while and you'll soon get some ideas but it seems rhat you are on the right track anyway. Her new book, some Minky's, a Kermit a scrub daddy and a couple of zofloras and jou've nailed the perfect hamper. Your mum will love it! All the best xxSmile

BrandoraPaithwaite · 06/09/2020 19:52

Making personalised hampers for gifts, based on someone's interests is a lovely idea. My cousin often does this for us at Christmas and we find it really thoughtful.

May I politely suggest that you skip the cellophane? It's a single use non recyclable plastic heading straight for landfill.
My cousin uses shredded tissue paper as a bed for the items in the hamper and it looks really pretty and professional without a bunch of plastic waste. Also a fabric ribbon looks lovely and is reusable.

dollypops15 · 06/09/2020 19:53

I think go with the cleaning hamper idea. It's a fab idea... maybe add in a scented candle too for her to light after she has cleaned. I LOVE cleaning, so this gift would be perfect for me. So if your mum enjoys cleaning then she will also love it. There is a detol fabric spray that I 100% recommend, makes your house smell amazing xx

Sharpandshineyteeth · 06/09/2020 19:54

Usually on Facebook crappy selling sites. They do personalised zoflora spray bottles and those personalised cleaning caddies.

Bluntness100 · 06/09/2020 19:57

No one is trying to make you feel shit, there was no reason to furiously dive off the deep end like that. If your mum would like a basket of cleaning products for Xmas so be it, but it’s very unusual and being a fan of mrs hinch doesn’t usually mean someone wants some micro fibre cloths and some toilet duck for Xmas. But your mum does. Fine. You could have just laughed and said that.

Flamingnorahs · 06/09/2020 20:00

@brandorapaithwaite that is a very good point, thank you. I will ditch the cellophane. The bows I use are usually fabric/hessian. Thanks for all your great ideas everyone. I'm writing a list and will be getting a few items each time I'm at the shops.

OP posts:
bingowingsmcgee · 06/09/2020 20:01

OP I'd love this for Xmas. Far prefer it to alcohol, smellies, random crap, vouchers. You obviously know your mum and I bet she'll love it.

RudeAF · 06/09/2020 20:09

I think her new book will be published before Christmas so you could add that. And the notebooks she has for Hinch lists! And she has those white caddies with her name on that you could get personalised to be the “hamper”? Sorry if you’ve already said any of these I couldn’t be bothered to read through the snooty comments Hmm

Nanalisa60 · 06/09/2020 20:09

Cheers for making me feel a bit shit.

Don’t feel like that, I think it is a nice idea you know your mum and I’m sure she will be happy with your hamper with Mrs Hinch stuff. I think I saw a mrs Hinch the little book of lists you could but that in

I’m sure you will also buy her another nice personal gift as well.
