Dishwasher advice plese - what make?

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 05/10/2007 21:01

I am about to buy a dishwasher, need it to meet the following criteria.

  1. Have as low a water consumption as possible - have a water meter.
  2. Have low wattage per wash
  3. Have 12 place settings
  4. Have quick/economy wash
  5. NOT be a hotpoint.

If new, I am prepared to spend up to £350, but, am also looking secondhand in the local paper as seems a few people are selling good ones due to new property having fitted kitchens etc. Secondhand any good? If so again, what make and what would be a good price for something say two years old (wont buy any older than that)

Thanks
Pav

Only one choice: BOSCH...

DumbledoresGirl · 05/10/2007 21:05

We paid £90 (I think) for a secondhand dishwasher (Bosch) which was about 2 years old. That was about 7 years ago and it is still going strong - never had any problems with it. But then, as it came without the manual, I have no idea if it meets any of your criteria (except not being a hotpoint). Oh and we bought it off friends who were emigrating so the price might not be realistic in the open market.

DumbledoresGirl · 05/10/2007 21:06

PMSL at the unanimous vote for Bosch!

purpleturtle · 05/10/2007 21:07

I just bought a Bosch too - hadn't realised it was MN's fave, but I think it's fab!

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 05/10/2007 21:08

so, I am thinking along the lines of bosch?! .

I am glad this is what you think, as we are thinking it too, just dont want to make a mistake as we thought hotpoint before, for washing machine and fridge, and both broke within the year, several times!

Looking at the Classixx? One on ebay, currently at £20, but will prob go higher, local to me, but has a button missing on the front, apparantly easy to replace. Apparantly in good condition, two years old...is the button missing a big thing?

this is the one I want, but its too far from me! Is it worth the £80 round trip to get it? I have enquired about me paying for a courier, but no reply yet...
Opinions welcome ladies...

Bosch

Depends which button it is!

nell12 · 05/10/2007 21:16

That is the model I have.

No complaints here.

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 05/10/2007 21:18

lol Nell thats a good point! I shall ask...

So, if I won it for say, £50.00, and paid £80 round trip to get it back to me

  1. Would it be worth it
  2. Would it survive being driven in the back of a car for 6 hours?
  3. Am I nuts, should I just buy it new?

Another Bosch recommendation, we had one in our last house and it was excellent. Washed everything really clean first time plus was quiet when running through each programme. We have a Whirlpool one now, don't think it performs half as well as the Bosch.

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 05/10/2007 21:29

I have just emailed!!!
Lets see what happens, tahanks for your input everyone, I am most defintely getting a Bosch!

Miele.

Loving it. 10 years old, still going strong.

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 05/10/2007 21:35

Scary - see, Miele is the other one we have bee looking at! AND it has PC memory so that in 5 years and engineer can add newer software to it...I like that but its not as energy efficient as Bosch I dont think....

OP posts:
ScaryScaryNight · 05/10/2007 21:51

I wouldnt know about computer memory and energy efficiency, I have not been researching dishwashers for over 10 years!

See, in ten years from now, as a Miele owner, this could be YOU!

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 05/10/2007 21:57

I bet yours has PC memory in it. You should find out, get it upgraded to the newest technology without doing a thing!

Hehe, I never thought I would research, just go in and buy but I have been bitten very hard doing that, never again!

ScaryScaryNight · 05/10/2007 22:02

I should maybe check the manual. I am very tidy and know exactly where it is! thanks!

kateyp · 06/10/2007 11:28

That'll be Bosch then.
I just popped by to ask the exact same question as my zanussi (that used to be my sister's zanussi and so has lasted for over 15 years) died last night. The element has burnt and made everything stink smoky. It is grim. It has done it before but always recovered. This time it looks very very very dead. Indeed.

So. A trip to John Lewis and forking out for a new (Bosch) dishwasher it is then.
