Washing line pegs

Oldie67 · 07/07/2020 12:39

Ok I am male and retired. I help my wife a bit with the washing , but when she puts washing on the line she uses pegs of different colours to peg it on the line. I really don't like this and have been known to alter the pegs so they match. I always use matching coloured pegs if hanging up the washing on the line. Is it just me.??. I hope not. I am off to buy a supply of matching pegs so its never a problem again...

I don't use pegs. I just fling the clothes over the line and flip them at some point. Pegs make dents.

The proper use of pegs is as clips for bags of rice, sugar, crisps. I have nice coloured ones that I use at random. No matching.

I use these twisty pegs www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=247

I use them in order of colour preference blue, green, yellow and the orange.

I’m sure my DH knows this and passive aggressively uses random colours.

I would ideally have only the blue ones and this would give me total control of the peg bag Smile

Indeed my wife says as much!!!!.... but I am of the opinion that a tidy desk is the sign of a tidy mind, everything else flows from that ;) We all have little quirks, better to have a husband who puts the washing on the line with matching pegs than having to do it yourself.. I had to correct all the pegs yesterday as my wife had unaccountably forgotten to match them up.. truly shocking....I am off to buy a set of pegs that are all the same.....

You don't help her. You do your share.

Peg wise it doesn't bother me but each to their own. Smile

Sorry but I don't look at the colour of the pegs I use, at the time of pegging out or afterwards - no standing back and admiring the handiwork.

CountFosco · 11/07/2020 10:47

Wooden pegs are much better for the environment. OP clearly you need to take over the washing. I suggest you spend some time thinking about the best way to wash the dishes next and dedicate some years time to perfecting your technique. Retirement shall fly past!

I do help her. She sometimes helps me. This isn't a thread about equality... its about pegs on a washing line

If I assisted dh washing a car I’d say I helped him. It’s his job. It doesn’t make me a bad person.

Marriage is helping each other.

I hate those coloured plastic pegs, and two of my neighbours use them, and to make matters worse, they leave them on the line all the time after taking the washing in.

I use wooden clothes pegs, but not the cheapish ones, as they break apart easily, and put them in basket in my shed after use. I have still got some wooden pegs that my late Mum used in the 1940 era, the normal ones, but also the so called wooden dolly pegs,, usually brought round to houses by gypsies who had made them in the oldie days. The gypsies sold them and then gave you a sprig of Heather for good luck.!

My Mum has always pegged washing out with matching pegs. She also has obsessive compulsive disorder.

Zoflorabore · 13/07/2020 04:45

I have a couple of designs from the same company. I will alternate with each time so first item I use one colour and the next item I use the other colour.

I do have diagnosed OCD and it centres around order and cleaning. I’ve always done it this way and hate seeing washing on lines with any old pegs being used, 2 different ones on one item makes me twitchy!

Flymetothetoon · 13/07/2020 04:45

I have Lakeland pegs of various colours they are fab but must be in matching pairs on the line otherwise I get a bit twitchy!

Monty27 · 13/07/2020 05:01

I like pegs to match. I am such a nightmare about how washing should hang. Simply because I detest ironing. It just takes up a whole room I'm so fussy when I start.
As for wooden pegs, I have a phobia about wet would in the palm of my hand.
We all have issues of some sort 😅Grin

Bowerbird5 · 13/07/2020 10:13

Might be worth suggesting to Lakeland to sell some pegs in a single colour if they don’t already😁 I also have Lakeland pegs bought from the flagship shop. Considered a must at least once a year and coinciding with lunch or afternoon tea as the food is delicious and they have dairy free cake including orange and polenta which is scrummy!

thebeatofthedrum · 13/07/2020 10:25

I used to do this - matching coloured pegs. I switched to wooden pegs when I realised I was trying to match the colour of the pegs to the colour of the item I was pegging out. It was taking far too long to hang out my washing. Now I just use the first peg that comes to hand.
