Washing line pegs

Oldie67 · 07/07/2020 12:39

Ok I am male and retired. I help my wife a bit with the washing , but when she puts washing on the line she uses pegs of different colours to peg it on the line. I really don't like this and have been known to alter the pegs so they match. I always use matching coloured pegs if hanging up the washing on the line. Is it just me.??. I hope not. I am off to buy a supply of matching pegs so its never a problem again...

Forget the pegs, I have to put all the trousers,t shirts together on the washing line with matching pegs. So my washing line looks nice and neat. Trousers/jeans, t-shirts,jumpers,vests,underwear,socks then towels.

Purpleorange1 · 08/07/2020 07:46

I've always been this weird😂

weddingdisaster4 · 08/07/2020 07:49

It used to bother me if the legs were different colours but now that they have all faded to basically the same problem i don't care any more lol.

Oldie67 · 08/07/2020 08:01

I dont see it as being weird at all but perhaps it makes me weird for not realising its weird...

Me and hubby do this

Got a mixture of colours and wood. Wood only go on socks and pants due to marks if I use coloured ones they have to match.
Also I have to put pants socks dish clothes and tea towels inside with ending with large towels or hoodies on the outside

Just thought I'd come back to see how you're faring, OP, glad you've still got your sense of humourGrin
I moved all the mugs in the dishwasher earlier, but now they're all back in the wrong places again. Which means I can't get the wine glasses in. Ah, me.

clary · 08/07/2020 23:15

Pegs have to match each other and ideally the clothes.

We don't have many black pegs but lots of black clothes (!) so sometimes the pegs contrast.

Dd does this too. My colleagues think I am bananas.

NeverFit · 09/07/2020 02:02

Oooh, a clothes peg thread. Lovely! 😁

Each item of clothing has to have the same colour and type of clothes peg. However, the colour of peg must be different to the colour of the piece of clothing. For example a blue top cannot have blue pegs on them.

Then of course, the next item I hang up cannot have the same colour pegs as the first item. The colours used on clothes items must be spread out on the line. So first item, all pink pegs, next item all dark blue, then it's yellow, green, light blue, pink, yellow, dark blue etc.

When I'm done, I look at the washing on the line, feeling happy that the rules have been followed 😉

CremeEggThief · 09/07/2020 02:24

I have pegs in two colours and always use matching pegs and then I alternate them! So, yellow, green, yellow, green, etc.

Oldie67 · 09/07/2020 06:13

I feel so.much better knowing I am not alone. I am.begininnh to think that those who don't match the pegs should do things the right way. . Perhaps I should start a campaign about it!!!

GracieLouFreebushh · 09/07/2020 06:44

I'm a matcher, we have pink and blue and then a different kind of orange ones, I'm always content when I get it all hung out with the pink and blues - one colour for each item.

clary · 09/07/2020 17:07

neverfit your system is more complex than mine!

I was ludicrously excited to buy some new pegs (from Lakeland - fab non-marking pegs) which included an odd orangey-pink colour - turns out loads of my clothes are this colour, who knew!

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/07/2020 18:18

I match. It just looks better somehow.

I don't know why I do it, but it feels just right 😊

The best pegs are the Lakeland ones. I've since had cheaper copycat ones.
My favourite colour is that orangey pink one but I only have four of those. 😕

Yes we should 😄

I would also campaign to outlaw leaving pegs on washing lines day and night when not being used. Why do people do that. What's the point in using dirty pegs on clean clothes.

I do hope that before the ritual of using the pegs correctly that the washing line is cleaned first?

IncrediblySadToo · 11/07/2020 03:24

I hang the smalls in the centre. And everything else in a specific order around the line. I used to match all the pegs -type & colour per type of item ie shirts, plastic red pegs. But when I moved in here I bought new pegs - they're all a pale blue. So no more hunting matching pegs & colours.

I got so bad that if I ran out of, say, yellow pegs for the shorts,I'd rehang with a different colour that there were more of.

I wish there was a name for thisl behaviour (having long since learned that a 'bit OCD' is offensive - and now totally understand why) & anal retentive sounds disgusting.

notangelinajolie · 11/07/2020 03:55

Team matching here.

However, mine are all wooden - plastic pegs need to go.

Laserbird16 · 11/07/2020 03:58

Just to add to the clothes pegs choices, I have metal pegs from ALDI - marine steel no less. La-di-da

3rdNamechange · 11/07/2020 04:53

@Oldie67 I know it's hard to tell on the internet and this is a lighthearted thread But
'I help my wife a bit with the washing' 😬 I hope that was supposed to be a joke ?

I agree re matching pegs btw

Isthisfinallyit · 11/07/2020 05:28

I find mixed coloured pegs cheerful to look at. Am I the only one?

triptrapdollydumpling · 11/07/2020 05:43

Matching pegs are mandatory. They also must be brought in and stored safely after each use!

Oldie67 · 11/07/2020 06:04

I have learned over many years that however you write something on the www.. someone will not be happy!.. I am not the best husband in the world but neither am I the worst. I help my wife around the house..not as much as i ought but i think about it. I have recently retired .. a period of adjustment is required. Sorting the clothes pegs was the first item on the agenda.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 11/07/2020 06:18

Of course pegs should match. I have 3 different colours but use a matching pair for each item.
Wooden pegs mark the washing. And if it rains before you get the washing in you get weird streaks on the whites.
You can't leave the pegs on the line. I did that once thinking it would make hanging the next lot out easier. It doesn't. Plus spiders make their houses in the pegs and try and kill you when you unknowingly disturb them Hmm

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/07/2020 08:44

Lakeland Limited pegs with the soft padded bit to protect your clothes and the flower pattern.

All pastel colours -very nice .

Noworrieshere · 11/07/2020 08:50

Each item has to have a matching pair of pegs but apart from that I don't care.
