For StealthNinjaMum

We’re still here.

After 11 threads my house still isn't tidy!

So join me and a lovely group of mumsnetters who simply get rid of one thing a day and report back. Gradually we’re developing good habits, reorganising ourselves, often improving our mental health and having friendly chatter along the way.

So newbies are welcome, just check in with your news and join in the general chat about recycling, organisation and housework.

ALSO many of us have set a target to get rid of 2020 items this year and will report on that.

Using up toiletries took a while but did save a few quid too. I had so many both full size and trial size ones-I found using some of the small ones first was the way to go. I had a silly amount of shampoos and conditioners at the start of the year, some I'd bought and not really liked, it took until May to use them all up.
Have been successful in keeping up with the one item out a day albeit small things.
We have so much paperwork and stuff from this home learning I don't know what to do with. I might stick it in a bag for now so at least it's in a cupboard out the way.
I'm also waiting for charity shops to reopen!
Plan for one day over holidays is to see if DD has outgrown any winter clothes and do a sort through of some toys.

LaneBoy · 16/07/2020 12:11

24h till school finishes here!!! So happy. And yet a bit overwhelmed at the thought of everything I hope to achieve in the seven weeks ahead. A lot of decluttering and a lot of planning and organised for the following term, trying to stick to a routine etc.

Re school paperwork - even as long term home educators we don’t keep a lot.

Not sure if I’ll have any outs today, so tired!

LaneBoy · 16/07/2020 12:30

Ooh but also, good result from the Use Stuff Up box - DS was asking for something to read last night, having finished my old detective handbook (an usborne book I kept from childhood) - so I directed him to some of those puzzle adventure books I had from charity shops etc in the box, and he read one last night. Reading that much in bed is quite new for him and he seems to prefer something puzzly to normal fiction (also likes graphic novels so I’ve planned some for his birthday) - should use the supply up fairy soon at this rate and I can move them on :)

PickledLilly · 16/07/2020 16:46

Childminding finished and immediately listed the stair gates for sale. They’re nice wooden ones so hopefully someone will want them!

Coldhandscoldheart · 17/07/2020 06:48

Swift work @PickledLilly!

I have the kids all day & still doing laundry, so today is mostly planning.

I have two lovely footmuffs which I listed before & didn’t sell, I think I have to bite the bullet & donate now the baby shop is taking items again.
Sigh.

Everyone is doing so well!

That's very quick with listing PickledLilly.

I'm still using the FlyLady zones for decluttering (I haven't tried the cleaning routines), working on the kids rooms this week. A few outs of clothes, hangers, papers/magazines etc. I am saving the junk room until last as it is the scariest.

Three bags dropped off at charity shop another to go later today to a different shop. Couple of pairs of shoes got rid of too - from the bay window of doom. Couple more paperback books in another bag to start one off. Need to find a shoe storage solution that works for either the bay window or preferably bottom of wardrobe or built in cupboard

SandAndSea · 17/07/2020 13:57

Stealth Funnily enough, I have a spare box sitting in my living room at this very moment. It's a good one too! (Aren't they all?) Grin

My outs today:

3 pairs knickers.
1 pair socks.
1 travel game.
1 cat collar.

LaneBoy · 17/07/2020 14:36

Happy birthday to DS1 meg!

I need to do a bit more work in this week’s zone. Not decluttering - the actual bathroom only has what we are using (no cupboard, I would like one though) and the downstairs loo is comparatively big so has some stuff we can’t currently move anywhere else. I did get some little baskets the other day though so I will use them to tidy up the toiletries upstairs.

Not expecting to do any decluttering today, it’s the end of term and I want to just relax! I may symbolically get rid of some home ed stuff that we don’t need anymore though, as I’ve got a much clearer idea of what we need for next year (DS would be starting year 7 in sept). But... rest beckons, TBH.

Hi everyone

It's been a while since I last posted as I've been really busy with work.

You all sound like you've been striding forwards which makes me feel much more positive about my own battle

Since I last posted I've started doing TOMM for my cleaning and this has helped me want to get rid of more clutter and I'm beginning to feel a real sense of pride in my house and that's encouraging me to keep going.

Since my last post my friend kindly came and strimmed all my back garden for me (he didn't give me a choice and just turned up and in fairness I think if he'd asked me I'd have made an excuse as it was so embarrassingly overgrown) but now it's done I've managed to get to the washing line so have got up to date with my washing for the first time ever. As I'm not using the tumble anymore I've saved on the electric which is a bonus.

Not a huge amount of outs but only ins have been necessities.

Outs -

2 bags of old clothes to the clothes bank which I'd sorted ages ago but never removed from the house
An old vase I've never used to the charity shop
Some clothes left by the ex that he's clearly never going to come back for nor do I want him to!
An old bike from DD that she had from the age of 7, she's now 17 Blush

I look forward to reading your posts more often now works calmed downs and I also have some time off.

Keep going ladies Smile

PickledLilly · 18/07/2020 09:39

Both stair gates are being collected today, woo hoo!

RoxytheRexy · 18/07/2020 09:54

I’ve had a few days off due to work and having a lovely picnic with friends yesterday but today I retrieved a box from the loft to start to go through.

So far a pack of spare batteries have been taken out of the loft and put where we will actually use them. A sailor hat from an old night out that I was going to put in the fancy dress box and then I realised that it said on ‘HMS 69’ and 1 shoe. From a pair that I don’t even remember owning. I’ll probably find the other one somewhere odd.

A good start for a weekend

RaspberryBlonde · 18/07/2020 10:28

Sounds like good progress adulty despite work.

Hope that your DS had a good birthday Jigolo.

I would be tempted to hang onto muffs and have one last go in a couple of months coldhands when people start to think about winter stuff but I guess might be better to have the space if you've already tried.

My parents are visiting this weekend so probably no decluttering. It is lovely to see them though as they don't live nearby so we haven't seen them since Christmas!

De-cluttered a load of weeds from the garden

Some kitchen things - good condition but I won't use them and they're sitting there taking up valuable space .

Need to go through DS slobbing-about-clothes . Got rid of two pairs of joggers last week .They were shame makingly scruffy , even for an idle student Wink

We need to rearrange the DCs room, they need more personal space, but our furniture is too big at the moment to move things around, so lots of thinking needed to achieve what we want.

Out: holey socks.

LaneBoy · 18/07/2020 18:20

Thanks meg :)

I have done nothing decluttering wise today. I’ve been reading the TOMM book though and although the clutter buster bit doesn’t have any new info it does make me think I need to crack on. Tomorrow. As the toddler is asleep early and I am enjoying the rest!

PickledLilly · 18/07/2020 18:31

Two pairs of immaculate trainers sold cheap on eBay that were like new but irritated a scar I’ve got on my heel and I hadn’t worn in years. Both stair gates gone. Not a lot of progress today otherwise as it’s his lordship’s 40th birthday which mid breakup has been a rather tricky day. One ‘in’ in the form of a second hand sun lounger for my new place, bargain at £5, the chap selling it tried to persuade me to take the other two but I stuck firm that I only wanted one as I don’t want visitors Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/07/2020 18:51

Found an oven glove down the back of the washing powder .
Bin Fodder , it's not safe to use sadly

Coldhandscoldheart · 18/07/2020 19:37

@RaspberryBlonde yes, perhaps you’re right. I’m not sure why I’m so invested in them, sometimes I darent probe too deeply at my motivations!
I emptied a Big box o’shite and a shoebox o’shite. Some of it went in the bin, some went to places where it might be found again. I put an enormous box in the recycling. I’d been going to hang on to it but really, it’s just in the way.

Good to have got the stairgate away so quickly @PickledLilly

I’ve just done a reset of the kitchen counter so I can see a blank space on the worktop. Small victories.

I have a whole day in the house by myself, the first for months. I don’t know where to start. I might just wash up/kitchen clean & then go for the run I’ve been saying I’d do all week.

AlexTheLittleCat · 19/07/2020 12:24

Everyone is doing so well! Glad your son had a good birthday Jigolo, sorry the 40th birthday was awkward PickledLilly (and good news on the ebay front for you).

Enjoy your quiet day Cold, it sounds like bliss. I haven't had one for so long, the noise is starting to drive me crackers Grin.

Cleaned the under the sink cupboard of doom out this week, and have a tidy around the junk room. I still haven't listed the baby stuff on ebay, must do it today.
