Thin bleach has disappeared!

MiniMum97 · 19/05/2020 01:01

Does anyone know why it has been impossible to buy thin bleach for weeks and weeks now? Thick bleach everywhere but no thin bleach. I can't use thick bleach due to the added perfumes etc.

More importantly anyone know anywhere selling it?

There's loads available on amazon

avroroad · 19/05/2020 01:05

Why?

Because everyone went mad for cleaning products due to coronavirus.

MiniMum97 · 19/05/2020 12:42

@Gobbolinothewitchscat yes but it's super expensive. May have to resort to that if none in shops.

@avroroad yes but loads of thick bleach available so why just no thin bleach?

Use Milton's. Available in £1 shops.

mrsbyers · 23/05/2020 16:05

Picked up four bottles in Morrison’s today

MiniMum97 · 23/05/2020 17:33

Thanks @mrsbyers Yes managed to order 3 bottles in my click and collect from Tesco yesterday! That should keep us going for a bit (hopefully it’s actually in the order when we collect😊). We don’t have a Morrison’s locally unfortunately and I am not sure we should be driving that far for bleach if it’s not in my order. But thanks for the heads up anyway 😊😊

I’ve been looking for it everywhere too.Usually get it in Tesco or Sainsbury’s but neither have it this week.Milton is s much morediluted version of the same thing at a vastly inflated price . Will tryAsda and Morrison’s, though not sure if people had bought thin bleach there or Milton. I think Boots do their own version of Milton a bit cheaper

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 01/05/2021 21:19

Home bargains has none name brand Milton and bottles of Ace.

Kirkcat · 01/05/2021 21:43

I think the predictive text got at the last message but I got the Home Bargains bit, thank you

Kirkcat · 02/05/2021 19:55

Wow! Just bought 3 x 2litres of THIN BLEACH in Morrisons @ 38p per 2litre. My partner asked why I am stockpiling it but you never know if you are going to see it again

whatsthestory123 · 06/05/2021 01:37

dosent using the thin bleach end up splashing and staining clothes etc

Kirkcat · 06/05/2021 21:58

I don't routinely bleach clothes but occasionally use it to sterilise hankerchiefs instead of boiling for 10 minutes.I use it to sterilise things like cats litter trays and anything else plastic or ceramic which may be contaminated with unwanted germs. In any case I would not want to use thick bleach which has caustic soda and other nasties in it for anything except pouring down drains.

wearetheweirdosmr · 06/05/2021 22:06

Prices this a few months ago.
I can only find the thick lemon bleach in all the super markets.
We used to have a bottle of thin bleach for the dishcloths overnight, bleaching stains etc.
It would last ages.
Once brought the tablet bleach now which is smaller and dosing is easier.

Caspianberg · 07/05/2021 15:23

What do you actually need bleach for? I don’t think I have ever used it

Examples like cat little tray I would just scrub with hot soapy water - fairy and hot water. As bleach can be really harmful to cats

Dettol disinfectant if anyone is ill and really need to clean area.

Kirkcat · 08/05/2021 16:48

Well, obviously you rinse the bleach out well after use so that it does not harm the cat! Just washing with hot soapy water is a help but it does not kill parasite eggs. And what are you going to use to wash it with? And how will you sterilise that? However litter trays are not the only use.Dish clothes, hankerchiefs, to kill certin viruses and ringworm. Dettol was a useless out-dated product for years.Smells nice but I would not touch it.Having said which I think they have changed it to chlorhexidine now (check that if you've got it).Chlorhexidine is an effective antibacterial agent, my first choice if I want something which is coming in contact with skin or open wounds. But it stains so you would not use it for any material like dishcloths and it does not kill parasite eggs

Caspianberg · 08/05/2021 17:10

I just wash dish clothes in the washing machine on 95 degrees with normal bio powder. I think 95 degrees kills most things seeing as doctors have to wash their clothing at 60 to kill mrsa

Kirkcat · 08/05/2021 21:25

Yes, I also wash dishcloths when I am doing a hot wash.(60 )However I discovered that the 95 setting only reaches that temperature for a few minutes, not the whole wash. And it is pointless to use biological washing powder at that temperature anyway as the enzymes would be killed by the heat.I only use the 95 setting for floor cloths.I don't want to bleach these as they will have all sorts of other disinfectants on them which may react with the chlorine in the bleach.I feel rather guilty about using this setting anyway as it is so wasteful of energy.
However, I am not trying to persuade anyone to use hypochlorite bleach if they do not want to.I am a vet and I know my standards of hygiene are a lot higher than most people's

dementedpixie · 08/05/2021 21:58

Don't think I've ever used thin bleach and thick bleach lasts for months. What do you all use it for?

Kirkcat · 09/05/2021 16:05

Bleaching/sterilising stuff! Thick bleach has caustic soda added and other additives.OK for putting down drains or toilets if you want it to cling to the surface but would not have it in my house Thin bleach is a much cheaper and stronger version of MIlton, which is recommended for sterilising baby's bottles

rjacksmiss · 09/05/2021 16:07

You learn something new every day! I never knew thin bleach was a thing!

dementedpixie · 09/05/2021 16:10

I don't really bleach or sterilise things then

Confusedandshaken · 10/05/2021 10:32

Buy thick bleach and dilute it? Or better yet, don't buy bleach. I buy a bottle of miltons every couple of years to use as a stain remover and apart from that I don't use bleach at all.

RickiTarr · 10/05/2021 10:38

Pretty sure I bought bleach tablets last week. Either Sainsbury’s or Waitrose. Can’t remember.

Viviennemary · 10/05/2021 10:40

I've not used thin bleach for years. The thick bleach lasts me months as I only use a very little. Just use less thick
bleach . Now I want thin bleach.

gamerchick · 10/05/2021 10:42

@dementedpixie

Don't think I've ever used thin bleach and thick bleach lasts for months. What do you all use it for?
Wondering that myself. It doesn't clean, it's bleach. Handy if there's Illness in the house but that's about it.
