Burnt on food on oven glass

Hi,

Through years of basic surviving small children our oven now looks like this.

What would be best to shift it?

I tried Koh and the diamond black scrub thing which worked but did scour the glass a little.

Pink stuff did nothing.

It's got Koh soaking on now in pic as the new grease comes of well, it's the burnt on brown stuff that doesn't!

I’ve heard that rubbing with a dishwasher tablet works

I use HG degreaser for most things like this,

iloveredwine · 09/02/2020 12:08

Astonish paste seems to work well on mine

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/02/2020 12:15

That sounds like an idea sink, thanks. I'll look up astonish Ilove.

Google says bicarb paste left for half an hour?

Mine was like that. I used bicarbonate of soda. I mixed it into a paste with a bit of vinegar, left it spread on for approx half an hour and then scrubbed it off.

One of those scrapers with blade to get paint off windows
Rubbing with DW tablet also works but more effort - dampen a little bit first

squishedgrapes · 09/02/2020 12:17

Ha cross posted with you, it bicarbonate definitely works

dementedpixie · 09/02/2020 12:18

Astonish oven and cookware cleaner paste works along with a scouring sponge

ProfFlitwick · 09/02/2020 12:22

Make up a solution of hot water and soda crystals (green bag) and leave to soak, if possible. Then scrub at it with a green scourer thing.

PenguinsOnParade · 09/02/2020 12:28

I use Elbow Grease spray and a non-scratch scourer.

I have a scraper tool for when I need it as we have a ceramic hob too.

Sleepycat91 · 09/02/2020 12:47

I second the elbow grease! Mine looked exactly the same and my oven was so bad i would of just thrown it away if i could but it sorted it right out! Really good on clothes for stains aswell!

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/02/2020 12:51

Ok will try bicarb first!

Sorry cross lost with many suggestions, gratefully received!

The oven door was quite warm/ hot and I put vinegar and bicarb paste on, no idea if it make a difference. Warmth might dry it out too quickly?

I'm keen to try 'natural' methods first.

Ughit hasn't worked. The brown stuff is like glass it's self.

Thanks for suggestions; I will explore other options suggested!

www.wilko.com/en-uk/astonish-specialist-oven-grill-cleaner-sponge-250g/p/0470250 this is good. I got it in the supermarket

Ylvamoon · 09/02/2020 15:13

I actually had someone in to clean my oven. Blush

Watto1 · 09/02/2020 15:13

Dishwasher tablet. Dip it in hot water and use like a rubber. Works a treat! Also works brilliantly on hobs.

FriedEggs1 · 09/02/2020 15:13

Stellar glass scraper from Amazon. 7.99. Very satisfying! Doesn't scratch the glass either

ButDoYouAvacado · 09/02/2020 15:16

The Lakeland gel recommended by @Yorkshiremum17 is superb. Paint it in and wipe it off it's like magic. Don't dick about with scrubs just use this.

Itsagrandoldteam · 09/02/2020 15:16

One of those scrapers with blade to get paint off windows

This ^

No elbow grease is required, it definitely works. A diy tool to remove paint from windows. It does not scratch the glass, it just removes the burnt on stuff really easily. No chemicals required.

Cynderella · 09/02/2020 16:14

For years, I used a glass scraper from Amazon - amazing results. Then, just after Christmas, I did exactly the same as always, but as I was drying it, the glass shattered into a thousand pieces.

My new cooker manual warns against cleaning any part of the cooker with anything more abrasive than a feather from a newly hatched chick, but it makes special mention of scrapers ... which may result in an invisible scratch that could cause the glass to shatter.

theneverendinglaundry · 09/02/2020 19:23

I always use a brillo pad, works really well!

ATowelAndAPotato · 09/02/2020 19:25

I use the Lakeland oven cleaning kits too. Glass and racks come up sparkling like new with no scrubbing!
