Ok then - how often do you change your tea towels?

I've just been hanging the washing out and neighbour said I had a lot of tea towels. I said I change them almost every day, and she said "Oh I don't I just change them when they need it".

Weekly or when they are manky.

fruittea · 30/08/2007 10:44

I get through a couple a day - just slap them in the machine after I've finished with them.

BandofMothers · 30/08/2007 10:46

Depnds if there is a spliiage or something or they get food on them. If not every few days. When they seem to need it.

Hmm, I must be odd then if I change mine almost every day. I don't iron them, god no. Or towels either, but MIL does, she irons socks and pants and bras and even dusters

Well it is very important for household dust extraction that there is a smooth surface for maximal removal rates IMO.

oliveoil · 30/08/2007 10:59

every day

kitchen cleaned at night, new teatowel and dishcloth put out

hana · 30/08/2007 11:00

I use 2 or 3 a day - like clean ones
same with a dishcloth

ledodgy · 30/08/2007 11:02

I don't use tea towels I just drain and put away once dry. I read somewhere this was more hygienic.

oliveoil · 30/08/2007 11:03

we drain too and don't dry

but I like a clean cloth to wipe my hands on

ledodgy · 30/08/2007 11:03

Ahh I just use my jeans.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/08/2007 11:04

every day or two - depends !

Madwelshwoman · 30/08/2007 12:47

Usually every day sometimes we go through a few in a day as the kids or dh will use one to mop up something rather than go find a cloth Plus I always use the dishcloth and teatowel to rinse out the cat/dog bowls at the end of the night then throw them in the laundry (is that a bad thing to do????) That way I know the animal bowls are cleaned each day plus I can guarantee that those towels will not be re-used until washed

NAB3 · 30/08/2007 13:31

At least daily and some times more depending on many things have been spilt.

glitterchick · 30/08/2007 15:46

Every day (You have a very nosy neighbour?)

MrsBadger · 30/08/2007 15:55

both the teatowel and the kitchen hand towel get slung in whenever I do a white wash ie about every other day

but dishwasher means teatowel doesn't get much use

doggiesayswoof · 30/08/2007 15:56

once or twice a week.
don't dry many dishes, so tea towels stay good for a while, but the hand towel mysteriously gets filthy.

MrsBadger · 30/08/2007 15:59

no mystery re filthy handtowel
tis always DH

NomDePlumeCantFindTheCatch · 30/08/2007 16:00

One a day, unless doing something mucky like roast dinner

flowerybeanbag · 30/08/2007 16:01

About once or twice a week I'd say, unless the dog has pinched one...

portonovo · 30/08/2007 16:12

Every day. We use 1-3 every day, depending on how much stuff has been hand-washed (most goes in the dishwasher).

Leaving it to drain is probably more hygienic if you don't change tea-towels regularly, but it looks messier, and if we're doing a lot of washing-up it doesn't all fit on the draining board!

Anyway, isn't that what the kids are for - drying up!

HorseyWoman · 30/08/2007 16:49

When they are wet/dirty, but having said that, we use the dishwasher so don't generally use tea towels for drying up. They are more used as wiping the odd thing up.

MuffinMclay · 30/08/2007 16:55

I use 1 a day. I don't use them for drying things, just for getting stuff out of the oven. They get filthy though because dh insists on wiping his hands on them, and wiping spillages up with them, for reasons I can't fathom.

bohemianbint · 30/08/2007 16:55

God, dya know, I have no idea!

battlestar · 30/08/2007 16:57

as and whe they ge dirty.
can be three a day. or one every two days. depends whats happening at home.
