Day 2

I have never worn shoes in the house, nor do I wear makeup, but the general idea of getting ready for the day before you go donstairs is a good one (says Jas hoping no one can see her in her pjs)

I LOVE before and after pictures so all feel free to post them.

I just had to make a snack for DH as he missed lunch and I got very cross when the things got put next to my shiny sink.

But....at least they weren't put IN the sink. It's shininess was preserved

Jas · 28/08/2007 15:35

I have a new keyboard, and a new mouse....lets see if they work.....

ping!!! you can see your face in that sink!

blossomsmine · 28/08/2007 16:28

Bigbear - yes got dressed, quite easy that bit. Then shone sink. Thought i would have a little nap after that but............that isn't really the idea of all this is it,..so did abit of shopping, now cooking dinner, stripped a bed (don't mind doing that its just the making of it afterwards that is abit too much like work) I have flicked around the other rooms aswell though. Feeling quite happy with myself might throw away some magazines in the lounge, that is the mission isn't it??

pobletsmum · 28/08/2007 16:57

Congratulations on having a new keyboard & mouse jas!

Well, I am dressed and I have a shiny sink. Woohoo! I also have a clearer and cleaner kitchen worktop (but a fuller drawer! Does that count as de-cluttering?).

DH will be delighted that de-cluttering is coming up. His idea of clean is 'clutter-free', whereas mine is 'hygienic but may still be cluttered'. Let's hope I can satisfy both of these. I just hope I can manage to keep up as the list of baby steps continues... Looking forward to seeing what tomorrow has in store.

SlightlyMadShockwave · 28/08/2007 17:02

Just got in from work.....and my sink is still largely shiney despite DP being home all day .

I have to say getting dressed to lace up shoes before coming down stairs is going to be a tuff one for me - as I crawl out of bed when DD3 shouts and she ain't gonna wait for me to get dressed (and wake the rest of the house) before getting her milk. Besides DP does not allow shoes (other than flip flops) around teh house...

Am I cheating if I skip on this one? I don't want to cheat but IU want to carry on and get my life in order....

SlightlyMadShockwave · 28/08/2007 17:39

Can I ask what is probably a really stupid question (or 2)

  1. how does getting dressed with shoes help with teh housework?
  2. Are we supposed to be swishing and swashing (or whatever) - I thought we were just supposed to be shining sinks and practising getting dressed
BigBearistheBigBear · 28/08/2007 18:09

ludaloo love the shiny sink.

pobletsmum my DH is exactly the same!

SlightlyMadShockwave I think getting dressed to shoes means if someone comes to the door or you have to dash outside (for some unknown reason) you are looking decent and possibly even MILFish. So you look good even if your house looks like shite.

I think people who are swishing and swiping are getting carried away and will burn out on day 8. Having said that, am about to S+S my own bathroom.... Especially as I've been told we're supposed to clean the bath EVERY DAY.

Jas can put me right if I'm wrong!

blossomsmine · 28/08/2007 18:18

Everyday...no one told me that

SlightlyMadShockwave · 28/08/2007 18:21

Well I don't actually use my bath every day - so I won't be cleaning it every day....

SlightlyMadShockwave · 28/08/2007 18:22

I'm not entering intot eh spirit am I...sorry

FunkyGlassSlipper · 28/08/2007 18:29

bigbear is right.

Just shine your sink and get dressed properly in the mornings until you get the link to babysteps day 3 tomorrow.

It is very easy to get carried away but you're likely to burn out and and then feel that the system hasnt worked for you.

babysteps, babysteps

FunkyGlassSlipper · 28/08/2007 18:30

ps. sms - wearing shoes means you wont put stuff off. like leaving a bin bag by the back door to put out...

Jas · 28/08/2007 18:32
  1. - I don't thnk it does, but the general idea is taking pride in your appearance making you feel good about your house, and taking pride in that, too. Plus it is starting us off on a morning routine which means you get up washed etc, and dressed before going downstairs ad once ou are down you are ready to start the day with no more faffing about.
  1. Swish and swipers are getting carried away. My take on s &s is I wipe round the toilet and hand basin every morning, but the bath and shower get done when used/on a Monday.
OP posts:
harleyd · 28/08/2007 18:32

i always did do my shower and bathroom sink everyday when i used them. its the rest of the house i have the problem with.
on saying that, dh has just got in from work & said right whats happening, is somebody coming to stay or sonething, the plce is tidy

FunkyGlassSlipper · 28/08/2007 18:33

lol Jas. I read your post as "bath gets done when used on a monday"

alycat · 28/08/2007 18:45

I'm only getting carried away as I DO have people coming around tomorrow - with children too so I have to tidy upstairs (as generally they go up to play), if it is just an adult I just stick all the clutter on the top landing

I have to get a proper cleaning routine done as I (very lucky I know) have an Au Pair coming at start of Oct (to help with my severely SN son and keep me sane!)so I need to be able to hand her a control manual and say "this is how we keep our home spotless!" Okay, that may be optimistic, but I don't want her to leave the second she walks in the door cos it's a sty!

As for the shoes, I keep outdoor clogs by the door and swap everytime I nip in the garden as only wear 'indoor' shoes in the house.

A big GO YOU to you all

SlightlyMadShockwave · 28/08/2007 20:46

OK, I understand the shoes thing now....can I have my own adaptation - in that I promise to make the effort to wear a bra every day ? Please?

entropy · 28/08/2007 21:59

just checking in... sink still shiny I didn't look in to see what todays task was until 11ish and was still in PJ's! as since dd learned to open the shower cubical and climb in with me, I only shower while she is awake if we are going out if I don't make it before she wakes up I wait until her morning nap! I need this FLY much more than I realised...

Jas · 28/08/2007 22:26
