What do you do with clothes that are neither clean nor dirty?

I don't really want to put "dirty" clothes back in the wardrobe so normally end up hanging them over the back of a chair - but it doesn't look very neat!

What does everyone else do?

A hook on my bedroom door, and trousers hang down the side of a bookcase.

SallyAnne89 · 05/11/2019 17:25

I wash everything after every wear and sometimes get changed 2 or 3 times in a day. Not very environmentally friendly I know but inevitably if I pop a cardigan on the back of a chair or something it ends up on the floor and it's easier to just scoop into the washing.

Elieza · 05/11/2019 17:29

I wear things twice usually. So first wear and then a chair, wear something else the next day that goes in the chair, then back to first outfit for its second wear then washing basket.
I don’t put the worm once things in the wardrobe as then I will think they are unworn and continue to wear them again another three times or something before I wonder if they are due a wash (I have no sense of smell) So the chair helps me keep track! Even if it does look untidy!

LimeOrange · 05/11/2019 17:31

We chuck them over the landing bannisters. If someone visits who will care we put the clothes away.

MerryDeath · 05/11/2019 17:53

i have a sort of long thin bench with a cushion on top at the bottom of my bed. i need to get DH a chair. they are tidy enough for me if they aren't all over the floor.

Blibbyblobby · 05/11/2019 18:39

Hook. Just the one, to stop things piling up. Typically it's stuff I change into after work so it does two evenings running. If I have something "worn once" and I don't need to look smart I will wear that before something clean.

BabyHazey · 05/11/2019 18:45

Chair in this house too. I generally have a rule that if I know I'll wear again that week (like jeans or jumpers) then folded on the chair, if I won't wear again that week (like skirts - rare occasions for me) then folded and back in the drawer. Anything I know has been left on the chair all week gets put in with the washing regardless as I feel like over the week it will have gone 'bad' from all the deodorant, hair product, purfume & aftershave that gets sprayed about in the room

FrogFairy · 06/11/2019 00:58

I also use the chair method but as a slattern sometimes end up with several things piled up all so squashed and creased I have to wash them anyway.

Oppopotomouse · 07/11/2019 23:11

Floor Blush

Spied · 07/11/2019 23:13

Chair-drobe for meGrin

PickAChew · 07/11/2019 23:13

I just fold them over the back of a chair or hang them on the far right of my wardrobe.

BluePheasant · 07/11/2019 23:19

Hang them back up in wardrobe to one side or back in drawer roughly folded. No longer have a chair in bedroom as it just becomes a dumping ground and I hate it!

Threedaysaweek2019 · 10/11/2019 17:42

Mine hang over the bannister rail on the landing (though not when other people are around, they then go over the back of the chair in the spare bedroom)and dh puts his on the chest of drawers in the main bedroom.

percheron67 · 10/11/2019 17:46

Hang them in the fresh air for a few hours and then in wardrobe. Sometimes I use a sachet of a dry cleaner and tumble dry for around 20 minutes.

MrsJoshNavidi · 10/11/2019 17:58

What's the problem with putting them back in the wardrobe? Hmm

HeronLanyon · 10/11/2019 18:02

Moths is the problem. Number one attraction for moths is Unwashed clothes.

GuyFawkesDay · 10/11/2019 18:03

Got a ladder type thing either side of the bed. Works a treat. No more floordrobe!

Minikievs · 10/11/2019 18:06

Bannister here.
I never realised how much moths were attracted to unwashed clothes until I got my beautiful cashmere jumper out the basket a couple of months ago, where it had been languishing for months (why hand wash a jumper in summer when you can leave it in the basket) and it had been eaten to pieces Blush

Jolonglegs · 10/11/2019 20:44

Thank goodness for The Chair. DP tends to use the floor, but I'm working on him (still).

firesong · 10/11/2019 21:13

Oh yes. The chair.

redchocolatebutton · 10/11/2019 21:16

The.Chair.

goteam · 10/11/2019 21:21

The Chair!

WhatsWrongWithHun · 10/11/2019 21:29

DH uses The Chair & Landing Banister.
I use Door Hooks.

eminems · 10/11/2019 21:33

Unfortunately for this fricking mug, everything is washed after wearing in this house.

SunshineAngel · 10/11/2019 21:39

Yep, we have a chair. But there's only normally a pair of trousers each and perhaps a hoodie. I'll only use "the chair" if it's something I am likely to wear the day after. I'll hang things back up in the wardrobe if I'm not going to wear them for a while (like my formal trousers).
