What do you do with clothes that are neither clean nor dirty?

I don't really want to put "dirty" clothes back in the wardrobe so normally end up hanging them over the back of a chair - but it doesn't look very neat!

What does everyone else do?

Floor

Cardy24 · 05/11/2019 06:57

We have hooks on the wall

IvinghoeBeacon · 05/11/2019 07:01

We each have a basket, so fold and put them in there. Anything that needs hanging does go back in the wardrobe. The trick is to wear them again quickly so you’re not building up a massive pile of worn-but-not-dirty clothes

Hung on the outside of the wardrobe or in a pile on top of the chest at the end of the bed in this house.

stucknoue · 05/11/2019 07:16

Chair or floor Grin

RoseMartha · 05/11/2019 07:34

Hang on radiator.

dudsville · 05/11/2019 07:38

We have an 8 pronged door hook. Things go on there. Afterone or two weeks if they haven't been reworn then they just get washed and put away.

We have an old fashioned towel rail which I painted to match our room, we just hang 'worn once' on there

My dd cuts out the middle man and puts them straight in the wash Hmm

I have a stand thing for them- I think it's called a valet stand (and supposed to be for suits....) It's stands sort of in front of a wardrobe. There's not quite enough room for The Chair which is what I've previously had in other houses. I hang cardigans, scarves, my joggers/leggings etc. I also have over the door hooks for things like pyjamas

Another warning re moths being attracted to worn clothing. I have two ‘rules’ as a result of various unwelcome insects experiences -
No outside clothing (esp coats) on beds ever (esp of been in public transport etc).
No part worn clothing in wardrobe ever.
I have small rail on back of bedroom door where I hang things in this category. Not great look and I end up washing things usually even when I could get another wear out of them.

Wizzbangpop · 05/11/2019 14:10

I have a chair which is used more of this and an extension to my wardrobe than it's intended to be a seat purpose

jokerreturns · 05/11/2019 14:15

We have The Chair in our bedroom Grin

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/11/2019 14:24

The Chair here too.

lazylinguist · 05/11/2019 14:32

I have never understood this. If a garment is clean enough to be worn again, why is it not clean enough to go back in the wardrobe? Also, unless you always wear the garment again pretty immediately, wouldn't you end up with loads of once-worn clothes on your chair/floordrobe waiting to be worn again before they are washed?

IvinghoeBeacon · 05/11/2019 14:40

I’ve never had moths. I’m pretty vigilant too as I have lots of knitting yarn in natural fibres and wool/silk sewing fabrics

IvinghoeBeacon · 05/11/2019 14:41

“ unless you always wear the garment again pretty immediately, wouldn't you end up with loads of once-worn clothes on your chair/floordrobe waiting to be worn again before they are washed?”

I wear lightly worn clothes again within about two days usually. I never have piles of clothes lying around

TinyTear · 05/11/2019 14:42

the chair of dooooooom

WineOrGinOrBoth · 05/11/2019 14:48

@thenewaveragebear1983 our dcs must be related.

I use the chair for everyday & back of the door for ‘good stuff’. Dh uses the cross trainer Grin

Stationeryqueen · 05/11/2019 14:53

On top of the laundry basket...rather than in!

Cecilia2016 · 05/11/2019 16:58

We have hook at the back of the bedroom door

Allmyfavouritepeople · 05/11/2019 17:00

We have a drawer for them. Or spray with febreeze and hang back up.

RingtheBells · 05/11/2019 17:01

The things that I usually have hanging around are cardigans as I like to wear them a few times before washing so the wool doesn't ruin but don't like to wear the same one all the while. Unfortunately woollens are most likely to attract moths and we have had moths before so that is why they stay out of the wardrobe or drawer once worn. I usually hang trousers on the over door hanger if they have been worn.

Chewbecca · 05/11/2019 17:05

I got rid of the chair in our room because I hated seeing huge piles of part worn clothes on there.

Now mine go back in the wardrobe but DH's go on the floor, which I stuff in his wardrobe periodically when they are irritating me.

PrettyShiningPeople · 05/11/2019 17:10

If a garment is clean enough to be worn again, why is it not clean enough to go back in the wardrobe?

I think about having being sat on the bus or train. You get all sorts of things clinging to your clothing that I don’t want to introduce into a clean wardrobe.

Same reason you wouldn’t hang outdoor coats in your wardrobe really.
