Do you do these chores? If so when and how often?

I am on top of daily chores - clean toilet, sink, bath and shower. Clean kitchen sides, hob and sink. Bed made, clothes picked up. Some laundry.

However, the stuff that isn't daily gets on top of me. Removing cobwebs in the corners, dusting the skirting boards and sockets, hoovering behind the furniture, cleaning kitchen cupboard fronts, wiping the tops of door jams and mirrors and windowsills...

Any advice?

Pre Christmas clean only!!
We love spiders and cobwebs!!

1onelyranger · 28/09/2019 21:51

That makes me feel better @Windydaysuponus ! (I leave spiders alone too).

Once a year here too! Although the front of kitchen cupboards is probably fortnightly or as needed.

OlderthenYoungerNow · 28/09/2019 21:55

My Mil has a cleaner come in quarterly to do deep cleaning, skirting etc. I think it's a brilliant idea.

Kaddm · 28/09/2019 21:55

My advice: screw it

dudsville · 28/09/2019 21:55

I go around the house about monthlyto 6 to 8 weeks with the csection wand for the webs. The furniture gets pulled out annually. Kitchen cupboard fronts get done as needed - when I'm doing the cost typis and hobs I have a quick look at them. My doors are an old style and get wiped down on spider web day. Window sills and mirrors get done as a part of routine weekly cleaning. Internal cabinets and larder and other similar jobs are all roughly annually. Essentially one big job gets done about monthly in addition to the regular stuff.

StormBaby · 28/09/2019 21:59

I do a deep clean every six months which includes all woodwork, windows etc They get absolutely filthy in this time.

I also redecorate A LOT

MrsTumbletap · 28/09/2019 22:06

You clean the toilet, bath, shower and toilet daily?

I haven't got the energy to clean that stuff every day, plus how dirty does it get? what will happen if the bath hasn't been cleaned for 3 days?

sadlittleblondie · 28/09/2019 22:07

The Organised Mum Method is great for this.

Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah · 28/09/2019 22:10

I’m in a bemused state about your daily list Shock. Why? Stop cleaning so much!

Boobiliboobiliboo · 28/09/2019 22:10

I am on top of daily chores - clean toilet, sink, bath and shower.

None of that needs doing daily.

Moominfan · 28/09/2019 22:13

I do one room a day, what you listed as daily Blush but your deep clean stuff I do say once every other month

Honeyroar · 28/09/2019 22:16

When someone is coming to stay or visit, especially if I don't know them well! Or when the cobwebs are especially visible due to a spotlight. Our window sills get done much more regularly as they're about 3' thick so you can see dust easily.

Heck no to your daily chores though, they're lucky to be done weekly!

coffeecow · 28/09/2019 22:17

I keep on top of general tidying each day but like you I find things like skirting boards and window frames can get on top of me. I've started doing 'something' each day. So one window, one rooms skirting boards etc. Takes about 10 mins per day on top of normal tidying but after two weeks of this I've done most of the things that were bothering me and I'm feeling much better about it all.

Elieza · 28/09/2019 22:27

None of that stuff matters much and will be barely noticed. However mind and go over the switches, door handles, phones and remote controls with something suitable to kill bacteria as those things will be hoaching with god knows what all!

Branster · 28/09/2019 22:35

I don’t clean bathrooms every day so you definitely are on top of things!
Kitchen cupboard doors weekly when I clean kitchen. Top of kitchen cupboards once a year ( soapy water job for sticky dust!)
Cobwebs on ceilings or corners as and when - usually every three months go around with the vacuum cleaner.
Skirting boards once a month again with vacuum attachment.
Only 5% of our furniture needs cleaning behind of it (the rest is accessible) so that probably twice a year which is when I clean top of door frames at the same time.
Mirrors and window sills once a month when cleaning all windows.

MartiniDry · 28/09/2019 23:14

I hoover daily unless I'm out all day and I clean skirting boards, windowsills, switches etc at the same time. Cobwebs are dealt with as soon as seen and I also run a long duster/Dyson pipe along the ceiling edge a couple of times a week. Furniture is dusted every couple of days and the antique furniture is polished weekly.

I pull the sofas and other sitting room furniture out each time I hoover (normally daily) and pull out the cooker, tumble dryer and dishwasher weekly. The washing machine is pulled out slightly less frequently because it's so heavy.

Bathrooms are cleaned after use and as and when necessary, with proper cleaning of the floors, skirting boards, bath panels, tiles etc done at least weekly.

Kitchen drawer fronts and doors are cleaned as and when during the week and properly gone over with bleach at least weekly.

My excuse is that I have a dog and cats and that I used to be a cleaner. I would always clean a clients skirting boards, kitchen cupboards, bath panels, switches and the like each time I was there so it follows that I deserve to have the same level of care in my own home.

I have to admit that as I'm getting older and busier I'm now considering employing a cleaner to deal with my house!

MrsTumbletap · 28/09/2019 23:24

i do know people that really enjoy cleaning and do it as often as you OP and others that do similar.

I find cleaning so dull, boring and repetitive. When I get in from work all I want to do is eat dinner then relax, I avoid cleaning where possible, and only deep clean when people come to stay.

We have cream carpets and everything is light coloured in our house and people still say our house looks like a show home.

We are living proof you don't need to clean daily for your house to look really clean. Grin

1onelyranger · 28/09/2019 23:30

I'm just in a routine with the bathroom and bedroom in a morning and the kitchen at night, so it doesn't seem onerous. Plus, I hate that scummy dusty coating you get in the bathroom after 24 hours.

I used to be much cleaner when I had dogs, and I kind of miss things being so clean.

I liked the idea of having a deep clean four times a year, that would definitely keep on top of it.

Far too much “I” on this thread.

BackforGood · 29/09/2019 01:20

You are overdoing the "daily"

1onelyranger · 29/09/2019 03:46

Far too much “I” on this thread.

Do you mean I’m being too self indulgent with this thread? Apologies if I got my tone wrong. Perhaps we should let the discussion end here.

OP posts:
snowqu33n · 29/09/2019 04:11

The “I” thing is probably the PP wondering whether any of ther house inhabitants contribute to housework

snowqu33n · 29/09/2019 04:12

of there = other

Ounce · 29/09/2019 04:16

My OH does all the cleaning.

I've no idea when he does it - I'm out at work.
