Do you do these chores? If so when and how often?

I am on top of daily chores - clean toilet, sink, bath and shower. Clean kitchen sides, hob and sink. Bed made, clothes picked up. Some laundry.

However, the stuff that isn't daily gets on top of me. Removing cobwebs in the corners, dusting the skirting boards and sockets, hoovering behind the furniture, cleaning kitchen cupboard fronts, wiping the tops of door jams and mirrors and windowsills...

Any advice?

That’s a lot of cleaning! How do you fit in work and the fun things in life?

MonsterKidz · 29/09/2019 04:19

I enjoy a clean house.

Generally, I do one room a day. Or a couple of smaller rooms. And keep on top of the stuff you mention in your daily list.

Then one day about every 6-8 weeks I deep clean one room. I find that keeps on top of things.

DustyDoorframes · 29/09/2019 08:35

I do those things when I suddenly notice them and can't bear it- usually because someone is coming to stay or something...

1onelyranger · 29/09/2019 10:01

The “I” thing is probably the PP wondering whether any of ther house inhabitants contribute to housework

I don't live with anyone, that's why I haven't used "we" Confused

My jaw hit the floor reading these replies.
I do a ‘deep clean’ every week without fail.
Daily is bed making, a few loads of laundry, clean kitchen down, hob, dust, hoover. Weekly is changing bedsheets, wash towels, clean bathrooms (3).
This on top of working and bringing up 2 kids.

I’m stating to think I’m abnormal....

Boobiliboobiliboo · 29/09/2019 16:57

Have you found a way to bend space time?

redchocolatebutton · 29/09/2019 17:00

dh does a deep clean before his mother comes for a visit Wink

other than that we run the hoover every now and then and clean the toilets when they need it,
we try not to tread dirt into the house and don't have pets which helps.

Sowingbees · 29/09/2019 17:03

Deep clean every week Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

Spied · 29/09/2019 17:07

Skirting and cobwebs as I notice them. Just rub over with damp cloth as I'm going about my business really.

WhatWouldJohnSay · 29/09/2019 17:12

Deep cleaned yesterday as my mother wS coming 😂
Other than that I'd say once a month. Kitchen, beds, bathrooms and laundry done everyday. Hoovering and dusting twice or three times a week of the whole house.

KUGA · 29/09/2019 17:25

My motto is if it needs cleaning get a glass of wine and turn the light off.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 29/09/2019 17:27

The impact all of this excessive cleaning and washing is having on the planet and our sources of water and food, I may never clean again. At this rate, we don’t have long left!

You could be right.
i) 'bed making' is hardly a job, with duvets is it ? You give it a little tug as you walk past. Everyone who uses a duvet can do their own
ii) Are you seriously saying you do "a few loads of laundry" per day Hmm. How ?
iii) Dust every day ? Why ?
iv) Hoover every day? Why ?

Well I must be officially a scruff. I do vaccume most days. Dust when I notice it need doing. Skirting boards a very rare swish with the vaccume attachment again if I notice it. Cupboard doors a cloth and spray when I notice a mark. Benches several times a day as leaving crumbs all over is a big hobby of my family.

Toilet daily or several times a day ( I have sons so it's necessary)

Can someone explain what this 'deep cleaning' thing actually entails please.

Beamur · 29/09/2019 22:51

I have a cleaner who comes once a week and cleans the bathrooms and the floors. I don't do them again in-between that.
During the week I do laundry, ironing and only essential tasks - loading, emptying dishwasher, cleaning up after the pets.
At the weekend I will spend a few hours doing a more thorough clean of somewhere. My floors don't get messed up between the cleaner coming. The kitchen might get swept if it needs it.
I refuse to spend any more time than this on cleaning.

TwigTheWonderKid · 29/09/2019 22:53

Every day:
Wipe down table, worktops and sink in kitchen, wipe sink in bathroom. Clean loos as needed.

Mon, Weds, Fri

Kitchen- take everything off worktops and clean, plus hob, wipe cupboard fronts etc, sweep and mop floor
Living room and hall-rough dust everywhere, hoover and then wipe with damp cloth/furniture polish
Clean downstairs loo and bathroom
All that takes an hour

Fortnightly - as above plus dust, hoover and polish bedrooms, stairs and landings.

I don’t live with anyone either. One of the advantages is that your house doesn’t get dirty for ages. I do wipe the sink and shower every day because I’m in a hard water area and I would rather do than than deal with heavy duty limescale buildup. I certainly don’t need to clean the toilet daily, what on earth are you doing in it? Confused

MrsFezziwig · 29/09/2019 22:55

that

gostiwooz · 29/09/2019 22:55

Life's too short to care about cleaning the skirting boards. I genuinely can't remember the last time I cleaned mine.

Mitebiteatnite · 29/09/2019 22:59

I genuinely damp dust and hoover every day. I have tons of allergies (including dust mites) so I have to keep on top of it. I also have to wear a stupid mask because the very act of hoovering sends dust flying up into the air and into my stupid ineffectual lungs, where it sends my airways into a total frenzy so really I'm supposed to do it twice, twenty minutes apart.

The allergy consultant said 'my dear the person who has the allergies must not do the dusting' but nobody else was there to hear it so obviously everyone thinks I'm just trying to get out of doing the housework.

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/09/2019 23:00

KUGA you and me both Wine Wine Wine

SuzieQ10 · 29/09/2019 23:15

Like you I'm ok with the basic regular cleaning. But dusting is not my strong point and there are areas I forget (light switches, skirting etc). I have a cleaner who I book for three hours once a month. I often ask her not to worry about hoovering or the simple things I can get done and she mercifully concentrates on the things I'm rubbish at and / or forget. She even did my front door last time. That's something that's very rarely occurred to me to clean!

MatchaMuffin · 29/09/2019 23:15

I don't understand how bath and shower can both be daily jobs if there is only one of you. Both are weekly jobs here with 4 of us, and we don't always bother doing the downstairs shower as it's not used that much. We squeegee the glass after every shower.

How about you write a list of these jobs you feel you're missing, and every day or just once a week, skip doing either bath or shower (whichever you don't use that day) and do something off the list instead?

We are spectacularly rubbish at dusting bedrooms.

SherbetSaucer · 29/09/2019 23:28

I’m a bit of a princess so I don’t do any chores! 😂

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/09/2019 23:28

Suzie with a name like yours we may well be the same age.
It has never occurred to me that I need to clean my front door. In fact I think that I won't ever bother Grin
