Does anyone else use it? Is it actually worth having or a waste of money? We now use a biological powder to wash clothes thanks to the advice on MN Smile

I use it on all my loads (the cotton fresh version) and they do smell fresher - I stopped using fabric conditioner years ago so use this instead.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 11/09/2019 14:29

Why would you need it? It's 100% a complete waste of money, marketed to mugs.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 11/09/2019 14:34

I thought that this was an unnecessary marketing ploy but then after being ill and sweating more in the last year, I was struggling to get armpits of my work dresses properly clean & this product has solved the problem! Wouldn't be without it now.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 11/09/2019 14:37

I use it on all my sweaty gym kit that piles up over a week. Works a treat at 30degrees.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 11/09/2019 14:37

(Although I use the Wilko equivalent that is cheaper)

Stripes100 · 11/09/2019 14:38

I use it for sweaty gym gear and also towels when I’m not using fabric softener (alternate washes) it smells so fresh!

Floralnomad · 11/09/2019 14:43

I use it in every load because I love the smell of it , I bulk buy it at Costco where it is really cheap .

ExpletiveDelighted · 11/09/2019 14:45

I use it occasionally on smelly gym gear or towels that have been left damp but the fragrance is horrible and most washing doesn't need disinfecting.

RavenLG · 11/09/2019 16:22

Nope, it's pointless and just fear marketing. Plus it's very harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

Littlepumpkinpie · 11/09/2019 17:53

It’s very effectively on gym wear sweaty armpit garments etc.

bedunkalilt · 11/09/2019 18:11

When I first saw it advertised years ago I thought it was pointless nonsense - but now use it in every wash Blush

Like others have said it’s really good for sweaty stuff, and as I do mixed loads (some of my clothes, some DH’s, some DC’s) there’s almost always sweaty uniform/sports gear etc in there. You used to get Halo wash easily which is good for that too, but I can’t get it anymore (apparently Sainsbury’s still does it but I don’t have one nearby). So this works well in the absence of that. A bottle lasts a while.

Elieza · 11/09/2019 19:00

Yup, love it Smile

1moreRep · 12/09/2019 07:22

i use it for our gym kit, stops it smelling

AuntieStella · 12/09/2019 07:25

Wiggle sells Halo

I don't use anti-bac products, including in the washing machine.

Even for my sweaty running gear or DC's sweaty sports kit

missmouse101 · 12/09/2019 07:27

I bought it to use last year when I had a child ill with paratyphoid. It is very good for things like that, washing clothes coming back from hospital etc, and gave us peace of mind. Fantastic smell too. I wouldn't use it all the time though, as bio is all you need under normal circumstances.

Loveislandaddict · 12/09/2019 07:28

I only use it after illness.

BertrandRussell · 12/09/2019 07:28

Another product designed to fuel people’s worries and damage the environment.

randomsabreuse · 12/09/2019 07:42

I use it if a wash gets left in the machine or if DH has seen something possibly infectious at work.

Frouby · 12/09/2019 07:51

If you used everything recommended in your wash you would use washing powder or gel, fabric conditioner, calgon or similar, something to disenfect and maybe those smelly beads.

Would cost a fortune to do 1 wash, plus the environmental impact of all those products and the packaging.

Engineer told me recently the best thing to keep your washing machine clean inside is a hot wash occasionally. And once of those dr beckman sachets once a month. And if your washing machine is clean your clothes should be clean as well.

I recently switched from powder to gel and have noticed things aren't as fresh smelling or as clean anymore. I wash on 40 for dirty stuff like dhs work gear (builder), stuff we have wore to the ponies, stuff that has got wet from the lake (watersports) and with powder (persil bio) I don't find anything ever needs a second wash. Whites and towels go on a 60.

If you are getting washing still smelling and use gel or capsules try old fashioned washing powder instead. We have some really stinky stuff, ds is always in the lake, or rolling around in the ponys stable or digging in mud. Dh is a sweaty arsed builder and comes home filthy, especially when it's warm. It all comes clean and smells fresh with powder and fabric conditioner.

BertrandRussell · 12/09/2019 08:47

Beware viral marketing.

NaToth · 13/09/2019 13:13

We used it when MIL was ill when we were washing her clothes and bedding. I don't know whether it made any difference, but it gave us some peace of mind that things were really clean. Don't use it normally

Jarstastic · 14/09/2019 12:04

Is it any different to using Dettol disinfectant (I have the lavender and organge one), or zoflora?

KnobJockey · 16/09/2019 09:03

I use it. I find that using bio wash or washing powder rather than gel/liquid flares up DDs eczema and makes DP itch so need something extra for DPs work uniform. He wears a flame retardant long sleeve work top whatever the weather, you can guess how smelly that gets! I put the tops in on a wash with a prewash, with the Dettol in the prewash bit, gets them smelling better at 40.

Roomba · 16/09/2019 09:06

I use it for DS's stinky rugby kit and it does work. Already tried Ed bio powder, hot washes etc to no avail.

The cheaper versions available in B&M, Sainsbury's and so on work just as well as they have the same ingredient, btw.

StayInYourLaneBoy · 16/09/2019 09:16

I just chuck in a capful of normal Dettol with DPs work clothes (welder...dirty, smelly, sweaty and possible bits of iron filings) and DSs pyjamas (autistic with bowel issues). I don't use it for normal washes though, just things I need to be extra clean.
