I have to make £50 stretch this week and need to get £20 of petrol out of it.

I will need nappies as the washable ones don't fit anymore and obv. buying a size up won't be economical with a 3 year old as is just for nights.

So, the nappies cost approx £3.50. What else shall I buy?

I need cheese and goats milk.

I can shop at Asda, Tesco or Morrisons - Waitrose too but that won't make the money stretch much!

I can cook anything. Have a blender, an oven, grill and microwave.

Also, have broad beans from neighbour.

Inspire me!

Fruit crumble - tins of apricot/peaches, with some 4:2:2 of flour, butter and sugar, make a great pudding.

home made cakes (I do a bit tray of squares) and custard that's a yummy pudding - cheap and also can get LO's involved

Not sure if we have Aldi/Lidl here - we did in London. Anyone know of one near St Albans?

Sausage and lentil bake:

I usually allow 2 sausages per adult, so vary the amount to suit your family
1 onion, sliced
200g of green or puy lentils
1.5 pints of stock (whatever variety you like, I use cubes)
carrots/sweet potatoes/normal potatoes/suede/pasnip/any root veg, equivalent to about 2 large carrots
2 fresh tomatoes, chopped (canned ones don't work too well, it makes everything go sloppy)
some herbs: bayleaf, thyme, sage, whatever

heat the oven to 200C

brown the sausages either in the oven for 15mins, or in a pan on the hob (the latter gets rid of some of the fat)
take out the sausages. If you have a hob-to-oven pan, heat a tablespoon of oil and fry the onion until soft. Add everything else, put the lid on and put in the oven for 30 mins, then take out and enjoy!

If your lot are really hungry, serve with mashed potato, but I find it actually doesn't need anything else as it is really filling. It also freezes well if you have any leftovers.

Enjoy!

Btw, forgot to say, it doesn't cook completely solid, it has a sort of casserole texture, iykwim.
