How do you clean behind/ inside your radiators?

We have fairly modern radiators with a sort of grill across the top. Ive realised that the amount of dust behind and inside them is horrific!
My hoover won't fit, does anyone have any top tips for the easiest way to sort them please?

I use an old bottle brush - works a treat.

FixTheBone · 16/04/2019 17:33

The grill probable comes off, on all of ours you slide the end panel up-then-out, the the grill lifts off.

But cleaning inside the radiators, LOL, nope.

Fix the bone, the grill does come off but I've never managed to get it back on properly so now I'm scared to remove it Grin

I've no idea how effective this may be as I've not summoned up enough enthusiasm to try it myself yet, but I read somewhere about using a hairdryer to blow out all the dust & crap...

SoftBlocks · 17/04/2019 17:35

An old sock on a squashed down wire coat hanger works for me.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 17/04/2019 17:40

Yes, the grills usually lift off. Not difficult. Check YouTube to see how it's done.

I've got a long bristle brush from wilko that cost about £3. Works a treat.

IdblowJonSnow · 17/04/2019 17:42

I don't!!

AventaRizon · 17/04/2019 17:44

Neither do I.

gamerchick · 17/04/2019 17:45

Hairdryer at the top pointing down and hoover tube at the bottom pointing up.

boxlikeamarchhare · 17/04/2019 17:51

I need to do this in the hope it reduces the amount of dust. I can’t believe how much dust is in my house.

Watching for the easiest method possible.Grin

OldAndWornOut · 17/04/2019 17:52

Its not something I've done yet, but I do think about it sometimes.

tuttifritti · 17/04/2019 17:55

Lakeland do a great radiator cleaner.

HoHoHolyCow · 17/04/2019 17:57

I lift the grille off and vaccume. I watched a video on YouTube to show me how to get them on and off. The dust inside used to drive me mad!!

afterashowerr · 17/04/2019 22:21

Put a towel underneath and pour water down.

Fairylea · 17/04/2019 22:22

Haven’t ever bothered to do it. I just hoover up any dust that falls out of the bottom!

Cafetierecoffee · 17/04/2019 22:23

This is a timely thread as a massive big spider is living behind our bathroom radiator. DH dislodged 30 years worth of dust trying to catch it (we moved in last month, I’m not that dirty!!!) Grin

Livedandlearned · 17/04/2019 22:28

Hairdryer is brilliant, blast all the dust out.

AntiHop · 17/04/2019 22:33

I tried and failed. We moved recently and I cleaned really throughly before moving out. I watched you tube videos but our radiators seemed to be different. I'm glad our new place doesn't have grills on the radiators.

booellesmum · 17/04/2019 22:35

Never tried. We've lived here over 20 years.

PineapplePatty · 17/04/2019 23:10

Why do you clean where you can't see?

boxlikeamarchhare · 18/04/2019 01:59

Because we are asthmatic.

To try to reduce the insane amount of black fluffy dust which covers everything including the top of the toilet within a week. Must be coming from the radiator.

Time40 · 18/04/2019 02:39

Just don't look there.

Monty27 · 18/04/2019 03:25

I'm asthmatic too so I need to do it. I get the vacuum cleaner in there as far as I can and use old dusters by threading them through the top to the bottom. It doesn't half bring a load of cobwebs and dust out.

Blackandpurple · 18/04/2019 08:14

I tried to take the grill off and broke it!

They need cleaning bt im scared to try again
