How do you clean behind/ inside your radiators?

We have fairly modern radiators with a sort of grill across the top. Ive realised that the amount of dust behind and inside them is horrific!
My hoover won't fit, does anyone have any top tips for the easiest way to sort them please?

Thanks box I wasn't being snarky just interested. I'll do mine as DN is Asthmatic.

Grin Patty, I didn't think you were. Honestly I have got the best of intentions but could do with a magic wand. Housework is a necessity for me, not something I do excessively or because I enjoy it.

We moved into a fairly modern build last year and the black fluffy dust is really noticeable in the bathrooms and window ledges (must be everywhere though).

I decided recently that it must be from the radiators which look filthy inside ..... but I have yet to do anything about them despite being here 12 months.

Blow the dust to the floor with a hairdryer

Notwiththeseknees · 20/04/2019 16:00

DP used the air compressor - but he did put an old sheet over the radiator first. Minging is the word!

I've never cleaned mine but think the hairdryer idea sounds genius. I do that to clean my lightshades.

MariaNovella · 21/04/2019 11:33

It depends massively on the style/shape of radiator and where it is. Hairdryers, showers, spray cleaners, Dyson attachments, old fashioned radiator brushes are all worth trying.

Why do you clean where you can't see?

Because dust is a pollutant and allergen and very bad for your health and even if you cannot see it it circulated in your home as tiny particles in the air that you breathe in.

@user1494670108 so what method did you use? Grin

user1494670108 · 24/04/2019 14:30

@mommybear , I got my plumber to show me how to get the grilles off the top then hoovered, poked with a long bottle brush shaped thing I have, hoovered again and finally wiped. Very satisfying I have to say!Smile
