Help me decide what new hoover to buy please

It's that time again...... hoover on its last legs so I'm looking to buy a new one.
My last one was a Hoover upright. I've been looking into a cordless one, however, I live in a 3 storey townhouse, 4 beds and lots of rooms/stairs/hallways, so I'm not sure the battery would last a full house hoover.
I have 4 messy kids and an equally messy OH..... oh, and a husky (for those that don't know about their coats, they fully blow it twice a year. It's like shearing a sheep indoors 😫)
Me and my DD's all seem to also leave our hair everywhere, literally.... we shed hair like husky's too, only constantly 😂
I need good power/suction. Not too fussed about the noise. I want something that will make stair cleaning easier, possible 'lift away' option so I'm not knackered lugging it up the stairs as much. I'm tempted by a Shark or a Dyson.......
I struggle with some reviews as as soon as I see a negative, I'm instantly put off....
So..... what's the best hoover for me?.....

I've posted something similar to yours, so I'll watch with interest! Smile I live in a house the same as yours, a three storey, but my kids are now mostly away at uni and no pets anymore, but I still want a vac with a good suction.

Sweetooth92 · 27/01/2019 12:33

We have a shark. The pet one with two batteries. I love it more than I love my husband. It is the best vaccum I have ever had. We have two Dalmatians (which shed like nothing you’ve ever seen) and it shifts all their fur from all the carpets. To keep it working well you need to mantiain it by doing the filters monthly but it really has been a game changer here and we finally manage to have dogs without resembling wearing them. Which is a big thing when you have a toddler who usually wears black, and white dogs xx

Shark
DuoClean IF250UKT Cordless Vacuum True Pet With Flexology – Dual Battery

That’s the one we went for, just managed to find the link. Not cheap but worth every penny IMO. Our cleaner also loves it and it’s her favourite of all her clients’ vaccums

FangTasticBeast · 27/01/2019 12:38

I have a shark with two batteries, you can also buy extra ones if needed . I love it

Spudina · 27/01/2019 12:42

I love my Dyson. I had a Vax which broke. I bought myself a Dyson, and hoovered my Ikea rug, which I had hoovered every week with the Vax, and it half filled the chamber. That was one rug. The power on this thing is amazing, and I love being able to see all the dirt.

SpoonBlender · 27/01/2019 12:43

Shark or one of the numatic Henry range.

SpoonBlender · 27/01/2019 12:44

Dysons are good (sidelining the politics of it all!) but not double-the-price good.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 27/01/2019 12:45

Another vote for a handheld Dyson. I also live in a 3 story townhouse.

DramaAlpaca · 27/01/2019 12:45

I have a Miele Cat & Dog C3 & I'd recommend it.

confusedandemployed · 27/01/2019 12:46

I've had Shark, Dyson, GTech. None of them compare well against a good old Henry. It may not be cordless but by Christ it picks up anything and everything. DD and I both have long hair, plus DDog sheds and the Henry is more than a match for us.

Feetonthepoofy · 27/01/2019 12:48

Another vote for shark. Just bought it & really pleased. Not sure what model but it doesn't have 2 batteries & was on sale in Argos.

Ollivander84 · 27/01/2019 12:48

Shark
Henry went to live with my dad who loves him and pets him. I kicked him after he fell over around a corner more than once Blush

Shmithecat · 27/01/2019 12:49

Miele Cat and Dog, with a cordless for backup. I've got 5 cats and a toddler in a fairly big 3 bed house and no way would I rely on a cordless alone. Makes me shudder just thinking about it.

SuziQ10 · 27/01/2019 13:30

Have had quite a few problems with my Dyson. Recently bought another, smaller one (the cordless stick one) for quick tidy ups and have not found it to be that great either. Constantly cleaning it out, due to it stopping when hairs are caught in the rotating brush thingy. And it was expensive.
Won't be getting a Dyson next time.

TomorrowsPrincess · 27/01/2019 14:15

Thank you everyone. I'm leaning towards a Shark but I was honestly thinking the corded lift-away. Is there anywhere I can go and try them out 😂😂😂 I hate buying anything new without decent feedback or trying it. I want to know what I'm spending my money on is worth it.
I'll have another look at the cordless Sharks..... please keep your feedback coming and thank you so much x

Sebo. Looks all solid and a bit 1950s but is the best you can buy I reckon. It comes with an extra long hose you can plug in and just leave it at the bottom of the stairs. My Shark isn't a patch on the Sebo, and you have to keep emptying the bloody thing. Sebo bags are magic and never seem to fill up (think they must compact the dirt or something).

flatpackbox · 27/01/2019 14:23

I have a Dyson V10 animal and I don't love it. It is ok but the filter clogs too easily for my liking and then you are without a vacuum while it dries after washing it.

I get my Dyson ball out of the garage a couple of times a month to vacuum without complications.

I would go for a shark next time.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/02/2019 14:11

I'm disabled and my dyson absolute V7, bought from eBay outlet ex display model has made hoovering my flat quick and literally painless

ALadyofLetters · 06/02/2019 14:18

I’ve got a shark liftaway. It is really good. It replaced an old Dyson and it has much better suction. It is so easy on stairs (we’re on 3 floors) and it manages cat fur.

Some people think the dust compartment is a bit small but apart from the first time I used it when it seemed to gather bucketloads of filth that must have been left over the years by the ancient Dyson, I empty it once after doing the whole house.

EcoCleaner · 06/02/2019 17:55

Another vote for Sebo! Built like tanks and known to last for 20 years plus.

PhannyMcNee · 06/02/2019 18:00

We have just part killed a Shark Liftaway - I’m gutted. It works but the carpet bestercwheel thing has stopped working.

Prior to that we had Dyson’s - a DC01 that lasted years and years until it went bang (literally - flames and smoke). We got a cordless stick and a DC25. Both broke down several times until they were declared terminal. I was really disappointed with them and won’t go back to Dysons.

RuggyPeg · 06/02/2019 18:15

Buy from QVC and then you can try for 30 days and send back if you don't like.

A cordless shark or Dyson is a game changer, especially in a bigger house. You can whip round like grease lightning.

TomorrowsPrincess · 06/02/2019 18:37

I've gone for the shark duo clean pet one. (The stick one not the upright) It's corded tho, just because I can't imagine me only taking 20-30mins to hoover (the battery would be flat in no time) BUT the cord is HUGE! I can plug it in on my first floor and it will reach all my ground floor then I can go to my top floor and it reaches there too! It's a brilliant hoover and the stairs are so much easier to do with the attachments. I would definitely recommend it. My only criticism is the dust compartment needs emptying often as it's small and it sucks a HELL of a lot of crap out of my carpets Blush

ALadyofLetters · 08/02/2019 10:38

@PhannyMcNee The shark has a feature where the bar stops rotating if it gets too much hair in it. My dd has really long hair and if it winds around the bar it stops spinning. Cut it off and it should start working again.

@TomorrowsPrincess It is filling quick because it is new and finding lots of dust. Once you’ve used it a few times you don’t need to empty it as often.

PhannyMcNee · 09/02/2019 16:05

@ALadyofLetters I’ve tried that, no hair left on at all but still no spinning brush Sad
