Ariel or persil?

Anyone used both of these for a comparison? I currently use Ariel but am thinking of changing over to persil. Also what fabric softener do you use?

Wilko own brand. Or Asda. Or Morrisons. Or whatever shop I am in. Don't use fabric softner.

dementedpixie · 16/10/2018 17:34

I prefer persil out of the 2 but will also use surf/ bold/daz too depending on what is on offer. I use comfort or lenor pure (the white ones)

LikeARedBalloon · 16/10/2018 17:49

Phew! I clicked on this thinking it was a name choice thread! 😂😂

LikeARedBalloon · 16/10/2018 17:49

...but I use whatever is on offer to answer the actual question 😁

NicoAndTheNiners · 16/10/2018 17:51

Ariel smells nicer than Persil but I get whatever is on offer.

YetAnotherUser · 16/10/2018 17:53

I always found persil went a bit clumpy and left streaks of powder on my laundry, even when the drum was well below capacity.
I usually use the store own brand, but currently using Ariel as I like to mix things up a bit from time to time for a change of bouquet Grin

idontknowwhattoput1 · 16/10/2018 17:55

I use Aldi, I ALWAYS used Persil, bought Aldi's once because my local Tesco was shut for renovation, it honestly cleans the clothes better and makes them smell fresher!

simbobs · 16/10/2018 17:56

Currently have Persil Colour and Ariel for whites, both liquid. I am quite impressed by the stain removal of the Ariel as I haven't used it for a while. I tend to buy what is on offer and actually like Aldi own brand best so buy that if shopping there. I never use as much as they say, either.

mintmagnummm · 16/10/2018 18:40

Thanks so far everyone. I always feel like other peoples washing smells nicer than mine! I used to use fairy fabric softener but the last one I had smelt completely different it was horrible! It had that damp smell, it was weird as it smelt lovely in bottle but as soon as washing finished and I took it out of machine the damp smell hit me! A friend said she had exactly the same too, very odd and annoying.

I much prefer persil. I tend to stock up when it’s on offer. I’ve used Asda’s own brand though before and actually it was fine. I like lenor fabric softener.

Zoflorabore · 16/10/2018 19:14

I'm a weirdo in that I think certain fabric softeners go better with certain washing powder.

For me, Persil needs comfort and Ariel needs lenor. The combinations are just lovely!

I am massively into washing powder and have been using American ones for my dc's school uniform. Tide powder and Downy fabric softener. Oh my god the smell is amazing.

Disclaimer- I have OCD and it centres around cleaning, order and smells. I am not a germophobe but prefer the aesthetic look of things.

A few weeks ago I bought the Lidl Formil tablets and they were very good for the price.

mintmagnummm · 16/10/2018 19:28

Lenor don't do a fabric softener for sensitive skin do they?? 🤔

TheFifthKey · 16/10/2018 19:30

I LOVE the smell of Tide! It smells like washing ought to smell. Where do you get it from?

dementedpixie · 16/10/2018 19:30

Yes they do. It's white

Zoflorabore · 16/10/2018 19:36

TheFifthKey

I get it from Amazon :)

e1y1 · 16/10/2018 20:15

Use Ariel considerably more than Persil but do use both.

Ariel is general regarded as the best detergent money can buy - by Which, GH and in the appliance (so of course washing machine) industry.

Use either Lenor or Comfort, on the very odd occasion I use own brand Sainsbury’s or Morrison’s (I think they’re made by the same) seem to better than others.

TheFifthKey

I get Tide from either Amazon or EBay,

Currently have 2 boxes and 2 bottle of the stuff.

mintmagnummm · 16/10/2018 21:44

I've not seen white lenor in Sainsbury's or Tesco's (only supermarkets local to me) my Tesco is big too so would have thought they would have it!

Fairy. We're all sensitive flowers in this household and it smells divine.

dragonflyinn10 · 17/10/2018 13:23

@e1y1 hi which uk liquid smells like USA tidel liquid do you think ?? Our Ariel is deffo not like tide even tho it's P&g or daz the USA laundry products are so much better than ours!!!!

Zoflorabore · 17/10/2018 13:53

My dad works for P and G and said they are completely different in America, there is no U.K laundry detergent that smells like Tide.

I'm going to try Gain next Grin

dragonflyinn10 · 17/10/2018 14:57

@Zoflorabore that's a shame! Perhaps your dad could have word!!!!

e1y1 · 17/10/2018 17:01

@dragonflyinn10

Sorry, only just seen your mention.

I’m afraid @Zoflorabore is right, there aren’t any U.K. detergents that resemble Tide in terms of scent I’m afraid. The one that “overall” has a closer resemblence is Daz, but def not the same.

Having read up on this (woohoo aren’t I a thrill) There is a surprising amount of research and development that goes in to detergent, and they’re all formulated differently around the world depending upon what market they’re sold in.

right through from preferred scent trends of the country, through to diets eaten in said countries (of course detergents formulated to target specific stains that users will encounter due to said diet of country), through to washing habits of that market (eg top vs front load vs Handwash) and even local water conditions (hard, soft, high or low iron/chlorine etc content).

Americans tend to prefer “sweeter” scents: Vanillas etc, so their scents can seem sweeter (but as a very general rule, they despise strong smelling laundry - their products on the whole are nowhere near as strongly scented as we can get). They also use more water in the wash (top loaders - still the most popularly used machine there, use astounding amounts) and of course generally bigger loads are washed.

Sorry if this has bored you to death Grin

Zoflora I have some gain too, the original scent (only ever used 2 variants of it - original and moonlight breeze) it is the Best smelling detergent on the planet.

One thing I have noticed, there seems to be absolute no performance difference between Tide and Ariel etc, (just the scents are completely different)

e1y1 · 17/10/2018 17:02

Wow that’s long 💤 😴

Flooffloof · 17/10/2018 18:11

Just ordered tide from Amazon on the back of this thread, thanks, I
think Smile
