did a search a few days ago for threads about soapnuts, found a link to someone aitch knows who's set up a soapnut business. so i ordered the nuts, and today they arrived! they look just like toffee popcorn i think!

done my first load and boy oh boy they have done a good job. i shoved in a big load of jeans, dd's t shirts etc etc, all very dirty. and all came out lovely and clean and soft. fabulous! so thanks mn and aitch for introducing me to the world of soapnuts

They sound good. Have jsut sent them an email to see if they will deliver to a BFPO address

Tentacles · 14/06/2007 12:21

I might try their free sample and see what we think, will need to get DH's approval

ruddynorah · 14/06/2007 12:24

when they arrived dh was like 'but they are proper nuts' i said yes i told you i was ordering soapnuts and he says 'yes but they really are nuts aren't they?! we're washing clothes with nuts now?!'

thank the lord the clothes have come out clean and not all nutty or whatever. he'd have been all 'told you so.'

What are soap nuts?

GameGirly · 14/06/2007 12:30

Don't really know, VL. But MN said they were good so I bought some! www.inasoapnutshell.com

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 12:31

I'm a convert too! My DH was sceptical, we had an overlap where we were using the last of our old washing tablets, he had to put the washing on when I was at work one day and he thought you put the soapnuts in with the tablets ( I had explained what they were for!) and informed me we'd run out of tablets so he couldn't do the washing... (sorry , what waffle)
Soapnuts are fab!

TheDaVinciCod · 14/06/2007 12:31

oh no no no

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 12:36

"Soapnuts grow on trees in India and Nepal; the shells contain ?Saponin? a natural soap"
They really do work!

multitasker · 14/06/2007 12:41

I'm very interested having read about these on a thread last week. My only worry is - would they get sweaty smells out of dh shirts? and what about grass or muck stains? - we live in the country and stained clothes are the bane of my life. I've been trying to vary brands of washing powder and wash at 40 but I don't feel 100% with the results.

CuddlesomeCod · 14/06/2007 12:42

they wont get my whites bright

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 12:48

TBH MT, they are certainly no worse than any of the nonbio brands I've used in the past (I have to use non bio as LOs all have sensitive skin.)

Also have found, happily, that despite not using fabric softener the laundry is lovely and soft, I live in a hard water area and add teasponful and half of bicarb of soda to the drawer along with a few drops of essential oils.

You can use Ecover laundry bleach for white loads o fishy one...

CuddlesomeCod · 14/06/2007 12:48

whast the smell like

GameGirly · 14/06/2007 12:50

God, I'm so excited. I hope mine arrive by the weekend, then I can turn my house into a Chinese laundry!

multitasker · 14/06/2007 12:50

Why bicarb - to soften the water? and what essential oil - are you telling me I don't need to be using Comfort???

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 12:52

Lavender in my house as that's the oil I use, lovely and fresh, especially after line drying .
Don't know what they'd smell like after coming out of a dryer as I hardly ever use one.

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 12:54

All i use is little bag of soapnuts in the drum, bicarb ( yep, softens our horrible hard water) and the oils, no chemicals whatsoever, no ariel, persil, comfort, or anything else
Gives me feel-good vibes and washing certainly never did that for me before soapnuts! lol!

Othersideofthechannel · 14/06/2007 12:54

Personally I don't find them much good on stains/ground in dirt.
But they are lovely for towels and bedding and do get rid of odours.

multitasker · 14/06/2007 13:00

Well I guess then I could use them for dh shirts and the bed linen
Is there a mnetter selling them?

Gosh - next thing I'll be getting a mooncup

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 13:06

LOL, have one of them too!

Earthymama · 14/06/2007 13:11

Do you just add oil in the fabric conditioner drawer? There's no need for a carrier?
I love that 'linen' smell, any ideas?
PS love soapnuts and Ecover.

DragonFaerie · 14/06/2007 13:19

I put the bicarb into the powder drawer with the drops of oil. Seems to work well.
