did a search a few days ago for threads about soapnuts, found a link to someone aitch knows who's set up a soapnut business. so i ordered the nuts, and today they arrived! they look just like toffee popcorn i think!

done my first load and boy oh boy they have done a good job. i shoved in a big load of jeans, dd's t shirts etc etc, all very dirty. and all came out lovely and clean and soft. fabulous! so thanks mn and aitch for introducing me to the world of soapnuts

I've seen these at lakeland, I'm definitely going to give them a go now.

the washing comes out smelling of nothing. well, except of water, whatever water smells of IYSWIM. the nuts themselves don't smell of anything really, they just look like toffee popcorn. and when you're done you can just throw them on the compost. the info says you can put essential oils in the soap drawer if you like a scent to your clothes.

dd's clothes had lots of food stains on and all came out clean. some had been sat in her laundry bag with stains on for a week. i did get some ecover laundry bleach too, just in case, but want to see how the nuts do on their own, so far so good. another load has come out fine. i have never inspected laundry in such detail!

Are they expensive? My middle name is frugal - I like value for money more than saving the planet

they work great but I always think they make things smell a bit funny, I add lavender oil to the softener drawer but you can still smell a slightly odd underlying soapnutty smell

no they aren't expensive at all. it works out as 3p a wash compared to about 25p a wash with a regular non bio.

I have heard you can use them in the dishwasher. Has anyone tried this yet? Results?
