September fledgling roll call: Ready, Set, FLY....

Yes this is the bonkers back to school thread. We welcome you to jump aboard for the ride. We are following the Fly lady system for taming the chaos (can't have anyone over syndrome). We are at various levels and there is NO obligation to follow it to the letter (we've installed a bar in the naughty corner for hanging out and relaxing when needed)

4 levels for flying:
Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks
Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

So ground rules, yes ground rules it is September:

  1. Newbies - we are a long running but friendly bunch. We try not to seem clicky but it doesn't always come across as some of us have known each other on here for a long time, just join the chatter and you'll soon be a fledgling
  2. There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

Linkies will be posted daily and will appear shortly. Until then, jump on board, enjoy the ride and there are still hammocks, sand, comfy seats, cushions, blankies and a full English on the naughty corner bar it is a Saturday morning, breakfast is earnt

Can’t sleep! Cagletini up later than normal coughing, managed to get about 40% of a dose of cough syrup into her. I’m staying downstairs with her and she’s dozed off. But I’m still wired. Grabbed the Moving Notebook and my home ed planning book and did a couple of to do lists as a brain dump in the hope it’d clear my head a bit. Instead I’m just laughing at myself for being insanely optimistic about what we could achieve by Christmas in the house.

Tomorrow (today) isn’t going to be the epic start to proper term time I was hoping 🤦‍♀️ We haven’t even moved the alarm back yet. I am aiming very low. iPad learning, grammar work (as that’s the one bit of “bookwork” we started, erm, over a week ago) and sticking to the termtime rules on screens/TV is all I’m expecting to achieve. Back to clubs this week too. TBH they’ve mostly started already but due to all the illness etc we went to none last week. It’s going to be a hell of a shock to the system for all of us.

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/09/2018 04:32

I'm sure you will soon get into the swing of it cag
Hope cagletini nodded off and stayed asleep!!I've been awake half hour, guess this is end ofy sleep tonight..
Got take D's to hospital for bloods today and ring school and arrange see head of year as he struggled cope our quiet church he's not going to manage loud busy school life without some support
House a tip, might as well get up and make a start.....

Thank you hills. Hope you are feeling better.

Been awake for half an hour. Checking TES for some resources for this week. Felt awful when I woke up with a stiff neck but it has eased. Now coughing. About to get up and have shower, get ready for work.
Feel bleurgh, not sure about home bleurgh!

Spreadingcudweed · 17/09/2018 07:38

Ta for links Hills

Also feeling bleurgh here Bower (hot and weak and odd) and feel your pain about everyone else creating mess. Unusually, because I am ill, I was last in the bathroom this morning and you should see the state in which DD and DH have left it! Honestly looks like a team of rugby players have trooped through; clothes and towels and puddles on the floor, grrr. Hope you feel better as day goes on!

Feel horribly depressed and overwhelmed by this house ATM. Just don't know how I am physically going to do it all!

Foxes and Cag paracetamol suppositories are routinely used for infants here; particularly if they are resisting medicine orally. I must admit it took a bit of getting used to but they work like a dream!

Foxes hope your DH feels better soon

CAG good luck with everything! Small steps and all of that! Need to take my own advice.

Hope hosp and school appts go well Zoo and your ds is ok

How is your dd today Sass?

Waves to I've MsForestier Toostressy Meet Honu and everyone I've missed!

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/09/2018 07:57
Stilllivinginazoo · 17/09/2018 09:03

Drop lil zoo,DP needed deisel.
He goes to pay and an Asian yound man in A white dressing gown and trainers is buying Costa coffee from the machine in petrol station clearly no shame before caffeine!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/09/2018 09:59

Hope blood taking goes ok zoo and that your day improves SC. Thanks for links Hills.

To do:-
Go for a run
General tidy up
Sort through school papers
Calendar check
Prep tea
Packed tea for DDs
School pick up

foxessocks · 17/09/2018 11:05

Lots going on on here this morning! Hope everyone coping. I'm desperately trying to get the house clean and tidy. Just want to get back on top of it now.

Ta da
Dishwasher emptied and reloaded
Washing hung up
More washing on
Downstairs towels and tea towels ready for wash
Sorted out all the apples my mum gave me
Tidied kitchen
Emptied kitchen bin

Onwards! And ds is busy making mess everywhere just to make it all extra challenging Hmm he's just thrown plastic money all round the living room. Sigh.

Cagliostro · 17/09/2018 11:44

“No shame before caffeine” 😂 love it

She did doze off but I found it hard to. She ended up on the living room floor for part of the night” 😳

We’ve done the iPad stuff and some grammar work (like pulling teeth with DS, it is definitely his weakness, but they really need to do it) also a bit of housework between us (mostly DH). They are going to a newly discovered playground and pond in a bit so I will try to get some Japanese planning done if Cagletini naps as we’ve revised what we did before summer and need to move on now but I need to stay ahead.

foxessocks · 17/09/2018 12:26

Humph. Lost my post. I was basically saying ds has also slept on our bedroom floor before! Sometimes that's all you can do!

I'm making some progress here.

Ta da
Hoovered downstairs including all round the skirting boards
Dusted downstairs furniture
Made ds beans on toast for lunch
Shook out throw and put back nicely
Tidied both dc bedrooms
Decluttered a few ornaments
Put towels in the wash

Still got some way to go before we are ship shape. Which obviously we won't ever be because of life but I'm making my peace with that. We can only do what we can do!

Cagliostro · 17/09/2018 13:00

She is napping. Finally.

I have done a little anti procrastinating (emails) but will now stick a ready meal in for myself (asked DH to get me one as I knew I wouldn’t be up for cooking!) and get on with some Japanese stuff. In particular making the hiragana (symbols) cards as they need to be very neat and can’t be done with grabby baby around!

stegosauruslady · 17/09/2018 14:16

Hello! I have returned from my weekend by myself, during which I ate lots of indian food, watched far too much TV, played too many computer games and knitted a lot. I then legged it around the house once DP told me he was on his way back, clearing up the carnage I had created!

Ta daas for today so far...

Swiped bathroom
Laundry done
Shopping
15mins of tidying my bedroom
Home blessing hour (split into chunks!)
Dinner made
Porridge bars made for DDs' breakfasts
Bins out
Cat litter done

To dos...
Put laundry away
Make DDs put their laundry away!
Dishes
Packed lunches for tomorrow

DP is in work until Wednesday now, so on Thursday we are buying our new kitchen cabinets! Hurrah! The chaos caused by having half the kitchen in the dining room is driving me loopy!

Cagliostro · 17/09/2018 15:09

I would love a bit of time to myself atm (clingy coughing baby not making that possible) glad you enjoyed it! I totally get what you mean about clearing up the evidence last minute 😳😂

Well the nap didn’t last long at all. I had enough time to use the loo, heat up and eat lunch and write a few emails. Have since had some fun with baby but otherwise feel a bit flat and bored and lonely (I do sometimes feel lonelier with the baby than I do totally by myself as it is so relentless!) and frustrated as I’m not getting much done

And I’m totally jealous as the others have seen a kingfisher at the park they went to! 😡😡😡

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/09/2018 15:53

Wow cag that's amazing(also jealous)

Tada
Did bit shopping trail DP and D's
Period pain from hell hit me.doubled up
Try nap
Walk get lil zoo.is sweltering here,so do can we have stewsteak(tinned) as was cloudy and cooler earlier has now been shelved for a snack style tea(cheese, crackers, salad)
Lil zoo full attitude still,so is dd2

Cagliostro · 17/09/2018 17:36

Still here. Still bored and now hungry. But baby is finally dozing back off on me so I daren’t remove myself yet. DH didn’t get anything for dinner at Asda earlier 🤦‍♀️ So no idea of the plan. They won’t be back from taekwondo for a while either.

I have at least written a couple more emails and read for a while too. If I can I’ll make those Japanese cards.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/09/2018 18:01

Glad you had a good weekend to yourself Steg; I can also relate to running around last minute! Cag, they really are relentless at that age Flowers.

Ta da:-
Defrosted half the freezer (had not planned to do this really hence only having time to do half). However, I have been trying to empty the freezer over the last few weeks and realised today it was fairly empty so a good time to do it.

Back later as need to go and help DD2.

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/09/2018 18:32

Did you manage to get any Japanese cards done cag?

Been curled up in agony past 2hours.sometimes be a female just isn't funnySad

September fledgling roll call: Ready, Set, FLY....
Stilllivinginazoo · 17/09/2018 19:39

Those are seriously cool😍cag

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/09/2018 19:45

DS recognised the < as cu?(used do bit Japanese at primary school)Smile - I've no idea if he's right!!

Chop and roasting a squash and couple sweet potatoes with paprika, cinnamon and lots black pepper.
Made salsa and guacamole
Grated cheese
Wedges iceberg

Little ones fed n watered,dd2 just showering before we eat

Someone at church said about taking D's wellbeing cafe tom if not at school to get him out n about.think I will

Cagliostro · 17/09/2018 19:59

Yup he is right it’s ku 😍 really love making them. Long way to go though. I also need to go through all our duolingo work to find all the vocab though as we’ve forgotten it all having not done it for a couple of months

Really really recommend duolingo especially on a touch screen device if they have one, it’s just like playing a game really

Cagliostro · 17/09/2018 20:04

Oh also Dr Moku although that is a pay to unlock content kinda thing for a few quid. But it has great pictures to help you remember them eg ku is a cuckoo, the < being the open beak. Very cute and funny!

Bowerbird5 · 17/09/2018 23:07

See some have had a productive day. I cleaned bathroom this morning. Someone had to!
I've been to work and coughed all morning some eyed me up and said I should be at home. I don't think they were that concerned about me.
The morning was relatively easy but this afternoon was a bit difficult with one of the little ones 😩finding life difficult.didnt have time for a drink at lunch hour ha ha lunch hour! I had seven minutes to go to the toilet and eat my roll, no tea😫 I was desperate for a drink and had a whole pot of tea to myself in Sainsburys on the way home. Got some marked down sole and salmon and we had some haddock at home so very fishy tea of slithers of fish, 1/2 potato, green beans and a poached egg. Cut out for three hours tonight. Previewed a lesson for Yr 6. Checked list for Family Learning. Stared at pile of clean laundry and wondered why it hasn't made its way to the drawers.
In bed and sipping a bramble gin for my cough.😁😉 Honest!
