One week deep clean- a room or two a day..anyone want to join me?

My house is fairly tidy in that everything does have a place (even if it isn't always in its place ) and on any given day I could have it presentable for visitors within an hour. It is clean enough most of yge time. However with 3 dc and working 3 days a week teaching I don't always have the time to deep clean each room.

So this week I plan to tackle a room or two a day ( realistically once the children are in bed) and really give them a good clean (doors, skirting, floors, etc.)
This is my plan
Tonight- master bedroom
Sunday- Ironing, utility room and study
Monday- Dining room and living room
Tuesday- conservatory/ playroom
Wednesday- bathroom, ensuite and down stairs toilet.
Thursday- kitchen
Friday- 3 kids rooms, hall, stairs and landing.

Each day I will make a list of everything I need to do in each room and tick it off on here to hold me accountable!
Does anyone want to join me?

Our bedroom is complete, even rearranged the wardrobe.
Karigan do you mean to tell me I am going to do all this and it won't magically stay clean forever more!

I started the organised mum method last Monday and it's been amazing so far!

ItsalmostSummer · 28/07/2018 22:00

I started on my wardrobe. I think that’s a great start. Maybe I’ll do some more tomorrow :)

montymum · 28/07/2018 22:05

I think I will definitely continue with omm after I have finished my blitz. Good start it's almost summer.

How long did it take you, OP?

montymum · 28/07/2018 23:25

Just over an hour but that included stopping to feed ds2 as he woke up. So not long at all really. Looks so tidy and smells lovely in hereSmile

Well done Smile DH did loads today whilst I took DS to a party so I might just relax Grin I've got my 30mins to do in the living room then maybe a movie Brew

montymum · 29/07/2018 22:00

Sounds good to me.. I opted for the cleaning while dh did bath and bed with our 3. Think I got the best deal Wink

I'm not starting till next week - DH and kids away then - and it's hard to when my hoover gave up the flipping ghost completely last week (new Dyson on order to come tomorrow) but I started off by scrubbing the kitchen floor which is the most irritating tiles to get clean because they're so heavily textured (I tend to settle for "clean enough" on them because of the patterning I'm never going to get them back showroom clean)... managed to catch what must have been a shard of old broken crockery and now have an inch long cut on my foot which is flipping painful!

Did manage to finish cleaning the floor though while grabbing a bit of kitchen roll between my toes to hold over the bleeding foot!

montymum · 30/07/2018 14:40

Oh no hope I your foot is ok. I have found myself doing a few extra bits each day like cleaning the microwave, kitchen fridge, extractor fan, wiping down the handrail on the stairs. My thinking is that when I get to those days I will have less to do.

I'm just trying to chip away for a little bit of time each day until the kids go away at the weekend and I can have an hour to blitz things properly - so if I do the really bad kitchen floor scrub job I've been putting off this week then next week I can just go over it with a steam mop really or do a quick scrub on it. Can't do anything massively involved this week because my kids will murder each other given half the chance.

Did take ownership of a shiny new Dyson V10 this evening which makes life easier again - having a functional hoover that actually picks up makes life easier - the old one's been on the blink for months really!

If I can get a bit of peace tomorrow I'll try to tackle at least one of the bathrooms - or at least give the place a decent hoovering going over as it's been dreadful for weeks with the death of the old hoover. I know I need to put a lot of time in getting my wardrobe sorted and cleared out as well because we're getting new fitted wardrobes done at the end of the month and currently all the shit from everywhere in the house is just dumped in there.

montymum · 30/07/2018 22:26

Oh enjoy your v10.. we have the v10 cordless and I love it.
All done for tonight completed everything on my list and so glad I got on and did it.

How's everyone got on today?

Yesterday I gutted my bedroom, it wasn't that messy but needed a good clear out. Three bags to the tip and seven (seven!) to the charity shop later, I finally have some space under the bed and in the cupboards. Cleaned the windows, skirting boards, dressing table, bedside tables and hovered properly instead of just the bits you can see.

Today was the kitchen which had been scrubbed from top to bottom. It looks stunning. No one is allowed to go in and we're eating takeaways for evermore so it never gets dirty again Grin. My cutlery drawer was a health hazard and I hadn't even noticed. That's the problem with this cleaning malarkey, the more you do the more you see that needs doing.

5000KallaxHoles · 31/07/2018 19:57

Washed all of the bedding (well apart from the last lot which is waiting to go in when there's space on the line to dry it in the morning), hoovered the entire house, including our bedroom which usually gets forgotten about as the dog hair that accumulates up there clogs the hoover in 2 seconds (new hoover just ate the mess up like a TV advert) - our bedroom's terrible at the moment as it's due to be ripped out in a couple of weeks and it's just somewhere that we sleep so a shitpit really at present.

Washed all the sofa throws as well - the lingering smell of dog has finally gone. Hard to do much in the way of blitzing and decluttering with the kids around (and I am itching to have a go at the toybox full of crappy Happy Meal toys). Going to make a gentle start on the kitchen tomorrow to try to reduce the amount I need to do on it next week - it's pissing me off now with things like water marks around the sink which is usually the point where I crack and bottom it. I'm planning on going back to working next year so I need to get on a rolling rota to do this stuff easier.

montymum · 31/07/2018 20:19

Wow well done both of you. I am about to get started have been out all day with dc and have just got them all to sleep. I did stop on the way home and restocked all my cleaning products.
Tonight is the conservatory
Sort the kallax ( this will take a little while)
Clean windows (x14 😣) and doors
Wipe down walls
Clean radiator, play kitchen, toy box and kallax
Hoover and steam floor.
See you on the other side!

A little behind here, but washed all/the rest of the windows in the house, emptied all the bins, washed the bedding, towels, and the next job is to polish/dust and vacuum all the bedrooms. (Some of this is more weekly stuff but I’ve been so busy it often gets left longer than it should). I have also emptied out some cupboards and drawers already and will do more of this after the general polish and vacuuming. I want to get rid of stuff we have not used in the last six months too. So always more to do.
Lastly I will work on the bathroom and then the kitchen, where I’ll do all the cupboards, appliances and general spring clean, throw out etc.

ItsalmostSummer · 31/07/2018 21:41

Oh I forgot I will vacuum sofas and furnishings, wash pet bedding, and all carpet downstairs before kitchen and bathrooms.

montymum · 31/07/2018 22:26

Sounds like you have been busy too it'salmostsummer. I have just completed the conservatory it took a while, mostly due to all the windows. All the children's toys are resorted into the right boxes too. Tomorrow I will tackle the bathrooms, they are kind of clean but really need a good scrub.

OP posts:
montymum · 31/07/2018 22:35

I am also trying each day to really quickly go over all previous areas I have done to make sure everything is still lovely and clean.

I am so inspired by this thread. And particularly AMAZED that you are deep cleaning a whole room in an hour or hour and half. That to me is just astonishing.

I am moving soon so no point starting but I am going to enjoy all the progress you all make. And be inspired to do the same later in the year!

montymum · 01/08/2018 14:23

Thanks Enervator, the kitchen and bathrooms are likely to take longer which are tonight and tomorrows jobs. I have been doing one thing in the kitchen each day though to make it easier. . So far I have cleaned the fridge, extractor fan, microwave, the window and the dishwasher. I have just now scribed the stairs while dc3 naps so that is one less job for Friday. This thread has really helped to keep me focused and I love hearing how others are getting on.
