So thanks to the cleaning vids thread I’ve been watching a few —too many— cleaning videos and the American ones seem to use cleaning products that they say smell good.

I’m a bit of the cheapest will do kind of girl but they don’t always smell amazing so which ones can you recommend?

If you want nice smells try zoflora.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/07/2018 06:49

Thanks Kelly. I’ve seen Zoflora mentioned on quite a few threads now but I’m a bit unsure about what you could clean with it and how to use it.

Stardrops Original for general cleaning and with ammonia for greasy stuff - great for windows and mirrors. I like sugar soap for cleaning the kitchen as it cuts through grease brilliantly, but do wear rubber gloves. None of those has much scent though, sugar soap has none.

I like Flash Bathroom for bathrooms. I use a couple of drops of Zoflora in hot water for emopping. The Method wood cleaner smells of almonds and I use that on our parquet living room floor.

wowfudge · 17/07/2018 08:14

Zoflora is scented disinfectant - there are a million threads on here about it! Choose your scent wisely and it should be diluted for most cleaning tasks.

glitterbiscuits · 17/07/2018 08:20

My mum was obsessed with bleach. I think it's hereditary!
Flash bathroom cleaner smells lovely.
Bar keepers friend is really good too, especially on plastic/pls window frames

StrugglingMumma · 17/07/2018 08:27

I like elbow grease. Can also be used to get grease marks off clothes

mommybear1 · 17/07/2018 11:23

Microfibre cloths - just amazing
E Cloths for Windows - again fab
Vikal (recent discovery thanks to MN) did limescale
Flash for tiles floors - concentrated is nice
Fairy for everything especially appliances
White vinegar great all rounder

HoneyMonster12 · 17/07/2018 11:27

I use zoflora, buy one of those spray bottles from the pound shop and you can make up some zoflora with water and use to wipe down surfaces, and as an air freshener, also use it neat down the sinks and loos, and if you want a really nice smell then fill a sink with hot water and zoflora and the smell will waft around

rhubarb39 · 17/07/2018 12:04

Grapefruit zoflora is gorgeous!
Flash bathroom
Method rhubarb spray
The white cif leaves a lovely fresh smell in the bathroom for ages

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/07/2018 15:36

wow I should have said sorry, I already use stardrops for lots of things but you’re right, the smell isn’t great...Smile

Some lovely suggestions on here already. I’m still not sure about Zoflora though, does it actually clean things or does it just smell nice?

jaspercat2002 · 17/07/2018 15:38

I love Method products - the rhubarb spray smells lovely and so does the clementine washing up liquid. And the wood polish is nice too.

prampushingdownthehighst · 17/07/2018 15:53

Zoflora is catastrophic for aquatic life....I wish the bloody stuff was banned.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/07/2018 15:57

Lots of votes for Method Rhubarb, might have to try that Smile

What’s the problem with it pram?

hungryhippie · 17/07/2018 15:58

All of the Method products smell really nice. Not harsh to the environment either.

LapdanceShoeshine · 17/07/2018 15:59

I use several different Method products - they’re all very effective, environmentally clean, & smell lovely

BUT Method & Ecover have been acquired by a private US company called S C Johnson so it might be different in the future Confused

TheFairyCaravan · 17/07/2018 16:07

I like Method products because they smell nice. Aldi Cleaners are great, they do a Lime and Mint anti-bac spray that doesn’t get in my throat like the others.

You can’t go wrong with Elbow Grease either. It cleans literally everything. DH uses it on the car and barbecue,it cleans the kitchen and I got sun cream out of the sofa with it the other day. It’s only £1 too.

jazzyfizzles · 17/07/2018 16:28

Elbow grease is amazing and so cheap, it got baby poo out of my light grey rug!

Zoflora - some recommended scents pink grapefruit, very berry, country garden (like rocking horse shit to find but so worth it), lavender escape and the pet one!

Flash with bleach, it's a proper foamy scrubby job well done spray.

I dilute zoflora and use it in a spray mop and wipe down all surfaces with it after a clean, I've got very berry in an old reed diffuser and fill up my sink with boiling water and zoflora, house smells amazing! I also put a cap full of linen fresh in with a towel and bedding wash.

And I do love a good old shake n vac!

prampushingdownthehighst · 17/07/2018 19:44

It gets into the water system and causes long term damage.
The less of it that is used the better, especially as there are much less harmful alternatives. Method cleaners and now I have noticed that Tesco have an own brand eco range that is good especially the toilet cleaner Smile

Acopyofacopy · 17/07/2018 19:49

Waitrose eco friendly range smells absolutely amazing. The washing up liquid is brilliant. Works great like Fairy but doesn’t make my hands shrivel.

Synecdoche · 17/07/2018 19:56

Tesco own brand Eco-active pink grapefruit surface spray is A+

CharlieBoo · 17/07/2018 21:47

Flash bathrooms spray is the best bathroom spray IMO. For the kitchen I also use the rhubarb method spray. It smells amazing and the smell lingers for ages. I love zoflora.. it is an antibacterial. I use it in my mop bucket, I also fill my sink up with water and put my dish cloth in it overnight. In the morning you come down to a super smelling kitchen and a nice clean dish cloth.
Also love the green star drops spray from home bargains. I prefer lime lite to viakal, I find it much more effective.

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 17/07/2018 21:50

Aldi do apple scented antibacterial floor wipes for about 50p a pack that I keep in each bathroom for a quick wipe round when I'm passing.

Method do a nice pink grapefruit scented kitchen spray I use to do the kitchen table and sinks (can't use on my worktops as it etches marble)

Hangingaroundtheportal · 17/07/2018 21:50

I have found most Method products to be really disappointing, apart from the Almond scented polish and floor cleaner, which both smell gorgeous.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/07/2018 21:57

Thanks for all of your replies so far. I think I’m going to check out the Tesco and Waitrose eco ranges. I think i’ll give the Zoflora a bit of a swerve for now while I read up more on its impact. And i’ll be giving the shake n vac a swerve too, unless it’s changed from the 70s. I think I would literally stop breathing if I inhaled it. Luckily, we don’t have many carpets anyway Smile

The method kitchen cleaners - not the anti-bacterial, the daily/general purpose ones - are the best grease removers I’ve ever used (& I’ve tried a few Grin)

Honestly they cut through grease like nothing else, & then wipe right off leaving a squeaky-clean, dry surface behind.

Use a kitchen brush first on tiles/grout & mouldings, then wipe off with (ideally) a cellular sponge. No froth, no mess, amazing.

Another thing to try is a Swedish dishcloth. They’re relatively expensive but do an equally amazing job & last for ages, & unlike microfibre cloths they leave no residue to rewipe. (Also no microfibres to pollute waterways...they are cellulose/cotton & biodegradable)

Jangneus Swedish dishcloths
