10kg washing machines that spin at full speed on quick wash cycles - any recommendations?

I loathe and despise my washing machine. It's a lying fuck. Bought it after being lured in by the promise of a 1600 spin and a 30 minute wash cycle but actually it only does a 1600 spin on washes that take 2 hours or more Angry

Luckily the fucker is broken and I'm in a position to buy a new one. So to avoid the same mistake.... I'm asking for MN help! My criteria are:

  • 10kg drum (maybe 9kg if all other criteria met)
  • MUST have fully variable spin speed and temperature even on quick washes (this doesn't seem to be obvious information from blurb or from looking at them!)
  • timer must actually tell the truth instead of insisting the wash is only going to take 30 minutes and actually then taking over an hour Angry
  • under £500

Bumping as also interested,,!

Hoover Dynamic next. 9kg 14RPM

Does a rapid 14 min and 30 min wash adjustable spin speed.

HotSauceCommittee · 26/06/2018 19:27

Save up for a Miele if you can. They are brilliant. I’m on my second one after the first one died after nearly two decades.

CatONineTails · 26/06/2018 19:52

Ive got a Hoover Dynamic Next but its a 10kg drum and 1600 spin. You can't do a full speed spin on any of the quick wash cycles! Does the 9kg one definitely let you?

I think so. I've not noticed to be honest. I'll check it tomorrow when I put another wash on.

CatONineTails · 26/06/2018 20:18

Thank you! Mine doesn't go any higher than 1000 on any of the quick cycles. It's so annoying!

10KG, full variable spin and temp on daily quick cycle and will also wash a full load on daily quick, unlike most other washers which will only do a half load on quick wash.

The only thing to mention is that daily quick only does 2 rinses instead of 3, so it’s worth using extra rinse with the daily quick cycle.

From memory, a daily quick 40 + extra rinse takes about 45 minutes. The spin does default to a lower speed, but this can be manually over-ridden by selecting a higher speed.

Cat can you not give it an extra spin at full whack when the wash has finished? Or is that too much of a faff?

EcoCleaner · 27/06/2018 10:56

Sorry to sound harsh here, but I think some lessons need to be learnt about modern washers:

  1. Modern washers have bigger capacity than ever but use less water. There’s has to be a compromise somewhere and its usually time. I remember my Mums old washer when we were kids only taking 45 mins for a full wash, but it only had a 4kg drum. Therefore it makes perfect sense that to wash double the amount of washing would take double the time
  1. On almost all washers, quick washes are only designed to wash half loads.
  1. The time display on the washer is a guide only. If you cram the washer full and put it on a cycle that’s only designed to wash a half load, IT WILL TAKE LONGER as the washer weight sensor kicks in and the machine adds time on to compensate.
  1. Quick washes nearly always skip a rinse. Make sure if you do use quick wash that you also use extra rinse, especially important if you have children or anyone with allergies to rinse out more detergent residue
welshweasel · 27/06/2018 11:06

We have a beko 10kg. It’s brilliant. 28mins for a full load with a 1400 spin. Can do a 2kg load in 14mins. Quiet too. V pleased with it, we only ever use the 28min cycle and clothes come out really clean.

welshweasel · 27/06/2018 11:08

Oh and yes it has variable temp and spin speed on all cycles.

nannyjack · 16/01/2019 12:12

I just bought a hoover dynamic 1600 spin and was conned. It only spins 1600 on a cotton wash. If you want a 1600 you have to wait for the wash to stop re program it to a drain and spin. This defeats it being aaa rating as I have cheaper elec at night and more exspensive by day, I set my machine to come on after midnight but have to use the 1600 spin in the day as I don't sit up at night. I too wonder if there is actually a machine that will do a 1600 spin when you want it too.

NicoAndTheNiners · 16/01/2019 12:15

Samsung?

I have a 9kg ecobubble and it has a 59 min fast programme. It spins at max speed. I only got the 1400 model one but there was a 1600 model.

KatherinaMinola · 16/01/2019 12:17

3. The time display on the washer is a guide only. If you cram the washer full and put it on a cycle that’s only designed to wash a half load, IT WILL TAKE LONGER as the washer weight sensor kicks in and the machine adds time on to compensate.

Oohhhh. Thank you. One of life's great mysteries solved. Smile

greenelephantscarf · 16/01/2019 12:18

just do an extra full speed spin at the end?
tbh the short cycles are shit and use enormous amounts of water and electricity. plus you can only do half or quarter load on them.

rangermag · 16/01/2019 13:13

Grundig

nannyjack · 16/01/2019 16:14

Iam not even putting in a half load as iam trying it out

nannyjack · 16/01/2019 16:20

Iam going back to currys tomorrow to tell them they can have iti washed some towels on a short 30mins wash . When the machine had stopped I put it on a 1600 drain and spin it took 30 mins start to finish. I can't see any savings. I was sold this washing machine as a 1600 spin not a 1200.

dementedpixie · 16/01/2019 17:10

My 9kg ecobubble doesn't do a fast wash at anything faster than an 800 spin. There is a daily wash setting that will spin at 1400. A 2 rinse wash at that setting takes 1h 2mins. You can adjust up to 5 rinses. I tend to do 4 rinses and that takes 1h 24 mins with 1400 spin

JWIM · 17/01/2019 12:12

Samsung Ecobubble 8 kg machine, 3 years old, does a 40 deg wash, 2 rinses, 1400 spin in 59 mins. You can increase rinse no and this increases time progressively up to 1hr 20ish mins.
The 30 min quick wash option at 40 deg only spins at 800.

greenelephantscarf · 17/01/2019 12:18

the quick washes might be false economy if you want to save electricity.
have a look at the manual.
usually the eco programme uses the least elec even if it takes a couple of hours.

CanYouHearThePeopleSing · 17/01/2019 12:29

Be careful... If you have a large capacity machine, but wash loads which are small with a high spin speed, your machine won't like it and the motor will go. This is because the there's not enough weight in the drum for it to be balanced when it spins. And that's why shorter programmes often have lower spin speeds (because they're often designed for lighter loads).
As someone upthread said, short programmes use shedloads of electricity and water - the manufacturers include them because they know that people want them, but the best performance (in terms of long term care for your clothes, and proper rinsing etc) comes from some of the longer programmes.

The fact that most of the DON'T have fully variable spin speed and temp on quick washes in a high capacity machine is due to the fact that you're dealing with 4 variables which if you set all of them to the 'ideal' (fast spin, high temp, big load, short wash) can't work as a washing programme. There has to be a compromise somewhere.

My machine has a 1600 spin, but I often reduce it to 1400 or even 1200 to protect the motor (on a 1hr 20 wash - I don't bother with quick washes - I don't see the point of them unless you need something in a hurry), and it's almost impossible to tell the difference between a 1600 and 1400 spin on most 'normal' washing. It certainly doesn't take any longer to dry (on an airer). It's great to have a super-fast spin on heavy stuff like towels and jeans, but on most normal clothes it really doesn't make a difference.

ForeignnessAlert · 17/01/2019 15:32

I have a Bosch Home Professional which is 9 kg and it has a quick Mix cycle which is half load (4kg) , max 40 deg and spins at 1600. Not sure how long it takes through, never used it.

It also has an extra short cycle, which takes a quarter load (2kg), cold-40 deg and spins at 1200. Again, never used it.

FromageRay · 17/01/2019 21:46

Our Hoover dynamic Next does up to 1000 spin on the 14/30/44 cycles and 1600 on the 59 min. A good chunk under £500 too.
