Where do I find wonderfully soft duvet covers?

Hi. I usually just buy duvet covers with nice designs that are on the cheap side. I'm starting to find them a bit rough on my skin and am looking for some nice soft cotton. What is it that I need to look for? Do they have to be extortionate?

I like the linen range from H&M. they feel really luxurious

samlovesdilys · 07/06/2018 19:35

Soak and sleep...but they have annoying tie things at the bottom!!

TresDesolee · 07/06/2018 19:37

If it’s your thing (it is definitely my thing) John Lewis do good flanellette/brushed cotton duvet covers.

MikeUniformMike · 07/06/2018 19:43

I have House of Fraser ones in egyptian cotton.

LemonysSnicket · 07/06/2018 19:44

The White Company x

LemonysSnicket · 07/06/2018 19:45

The higher the thread count the softer, though brushed cotton is a soft cheaper option.

EightdaysaweekIloveu · 07/06/2018 19:47

Yes 100% cotton is the way to go. The higher the thread count, the better quality.

Anything with polyester will be rough on the skin.

Shmithecat · 07/06/2018 19:48

La Redoute!

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/06/2018 19:48

Got a couple of gorgeous ones from amazon.

SilverHairedCat · 07/06/2018 19:48

Brushed cotton is very soft, but very warm. I've just put our winter brushed cotton cover to the back of the cupboard to stop DH putting it back on the bed!

Linen is soft. 100% cotton is always better than poly-blends.

SilverHairedCat · 07/06/2018 19:52

My best cotton set is from Asda of all places!!

NoParticularPattern · 07/06/2018 20:02

I have some linen bedding that I absolutely adore. It’s lovely and soft and is lovely when ironed (despite the fact that they market it as “fashionable” not to iron it). I also have some super high thread count Egyptian cotton stuff from John Lewis which I love but DH says is too “cold” feeling for him.

Canwejustrelaxnow · 07/06/2018 20:24

Thank you! So will anything 100% cotton feel soft? What sort of thread count would be soft?

I second the Asda 100% cotton ones, they're lovely

Wallywobbles · 07/06/2018 20:39

I got some amazing ones from TKMAXX online.

KNain · 08/06/2018 17:22

Another vote for Asda here. Their percale ones are lovely and very reasonably priced.

I have some very expensive ones and honestly think the Asda ones are as good, if not better (I daren't tell DH that though! Blush)

flopsyrabbit1 · 08/06/2018 19:45

ive always found the more you wash (cotton) the softer they feel

Furrycushion · 08/06/2018 19:50

I've got some Asda ones which are rubbish. I have one White company one which is as soft as anything & one which is crunchy. Wish I could justify buying more, I love bed linen!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/06/2018 20:17

The Asda set I bought for DD (at her insistance) was ok for a while but the popper studs were useless and wouldn't fasten after a few washes Hmm

RoseMartha · 10/06/2018 21:50

The best ones we have had have been from BHS ( still using these after many years and they have got softer and softer) and M and S

I found a lovely 100% cotton set in Matalan, it was reduced to £20 in the sale for king size, it’s getting softer with each wash, it’s lovely. Never bought bedding from there before but that set is my favourite now Smile

Butterflyrosebud · 30/06/2018 11:59

I quite like the Sainsburys sets. Always wash them using fabric softener (and iron if I can be bothered!). Cath Kidston are lovely if you like that style and White Company is a good investment. Smile

AuntyElle · 30/06/2018 12:04

Habitat ‘Washed’ cotton. Lovely colours. And they’ve got a sale on atm.

Sensemaya · 01/07/2018 11:52

After years of trying different bedding the best is from King of Cotton.

Egyptian cotton boutique 400 thread count. Pricey but worth every penny. They normally have special offers on a Friday.

Be careful with the depth for fitted sheets. I use the large fitted sheet although there is a shallower one and deep fitted available.

Wash wise I always use Daz powder, soda crystals on 60c.

Dries very quickly and is a dream to sleep under.
