And are they any good?
Sorry to be so dull Grin
I don't want to buy something only to find that I can't carry large dishes out of oven etc!
I want something that the kids can use too as they like cooking, I have burnt hole through the last two pairs which were fabric, are the silicone ones any good? How do those round ones work? What about the sort of punchy ones? Can't see how they work?
Any recommendations?

Well the dish is too big
You'll never guess what
I've got Joy Division oven gloves

:)

insancerre · 23/04/2018 20:22

*hot!

SilkyDrawers · 23/04/2018 20:25

Actually it has always annoyed me that in this country you can only buy oven gloves, and pot holders are so hard to find. I much prefer pot holders as it’s easier to keep a grip on things. Although having said that I’ve just done a quick google and Ikea have pot holders! They’re like a small square face flannel-sized oven mitt www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/textiles-rugs/tea-towels-aprons-oven-gloves/iris-pot-holder-grey-art-40210020/?cid=gb%7Cps%7Cpla%7C%7C%7C%7C

The silicon ones are brilliant. Very good at protecting against heat and wipe cleanable.

SpectacularAardvark · 23/04/2018 20:30

I've got a Cookie Monster one Grin

Flisspaps · 23/04/2018 20:36

Whatever tea towel is to hand.

Failing that, a folded up apron.

BlankTimes · 23/04/2018 20:40

Aga gauntlets or Prepology siicon ones.

BackforGood · 23/04/2018 20:52

Mine are just the old fashioned mittens - material, not silicone, but I'm glad I've looked now, I like the look of the silicone ones. I don't like the all joined in one type.
SilkyDrawers - my dh uses those - didn't realise they had a name. I hate them. you have no protection on the back of your hands or on your wrists. I like to be protected from burns there too.

PinkCalluna · 23/04/2018 20:53

A tea towel.

GreasyFryUp · 23/04/2018 21:15

Tea towel.

Well jealous of the joy division oven gloves!

BadCarrot · 24/04/2018 07:52

Lakeland ones, cream colour woven texture (boring!) But they work brilliantly, I think there is a BSI standard for oven gloves and many gloves don't make the grade. When I cook at Mums I forget hers are quite thin and almost drop hot stuff.

jellycat · 24/04/2018 07:57

I’ve got the same Lakeland ones as BadCarrot describes. Have never got on with anything else. When we go on holiday to a self catering place I take them with me!

Sarkyharky · 24/04/2018 08:02

Supermarkets sell oven gloves I believe. And tea towels.

MsHomeSlice · 24/04/2018 08:03

I don't get on with oven gloves, cannot get a hold on things, never seem to be able to get them on properly and they always end up completely filthy

Am often amazed at people with their high end, beautifully equipped kitchens, all shone up like the sun, and there's a totally MINGING pair of oven gloves hung on the cooker! :v

Heavy duty teatowel, folded works for me.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 24/04/2018 08:08

I also have the Lakeland ones and they are great, and they last ages. I have a pair that are at least 6-7 years old and they are still going strong.

jellycat · 24/04/2018 08:26

I put my Lakeland ones in the wash at 60C every now and then, which gets them nice and clean again. They are a bit stiff when new but soften up with use/washing.

MessySurfaces · 24/04/2018 11:31

I have a pair of Khune Rikon mitts with silicon patches which I love, and chuck in a hot wash every so often. They are on their last legs though (I've had them 10 years!) and I've just discovered they don't make them anymore. Noooooooooo!!!!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 24/04/2018 11:36

Some great big, but surprisingly dextrous gauntlets from John Lewis a few years ago. I've tried others, but these are the best for me.

PearsandCustard · 24/04/2018 11:37

I have silicone ones that have a thumb section. Love them, they're easy to grip and lift things with and they wipe clean. I think I got them in Sainsburys.

AnnieOH1 · 24/04/2018 11:42

I have a pair of hot gloves, they were about £10 for the pair on amazon, and good for some ridiculous amount of heat. If they get wet though they're useless till dry. :/ brilliant for getting cakes out and stuff like that though xx

MessySurfaces · 24/04/2018 11:44

That's the magic of silicon annie! It laughs in the face of getting wet. Or something...

EmmaStone · 24/04/2018 12:06

Silicone here. I had great ones from Tesco, but eventually they needed replacing and struggled to find any. In the end I had to buy a double ended one, which did the job, but I prefer individual ones. My mum found some in a discount store so bought me an extra pair.

Knittedfairies · 24/04/2018 12:24

Lakeland for me too.

FlaviaAlbia · 24/04/2018 12:31

A pair of kitchen aid ones from TK Maxx, they're mitts and have silicone on the palm. They were only £5 ish.
