How much fairy non bio powder to use?

ridinghighinapril · 03/04/2018 20:30

I'm am reasonably intelligent and a good problem solver but can't seem to fathom the instructions on the packaging. Having googled it, it is apparent I am the only one that has this problem!

There is no scoop/measuring thingy in the box.
How much powder do I need for a standard 4-5kg wash, no heavy soiling in a hard water area?
Do I need to add water to it first?
And where do I get a measuring thingy from? Or are they trying to make consumers switch to the more expensive tablets/capsules by making the powder a pain to use?
TIA

you can get a measuring thing from them. details are usually on the box.
but you can just use a small measuring jug, the amount is measured in ml.
it should also say how much to use for drum size and water hardness.

This is exactly it, (I follow industry/marketing news and there is a massive push from one major brand to convert users from other formats to pods)

No UK powder now comes with a scoop in the box. Good news is as mentioned by PP, you can get a scoop from them, info is usually on the box.

Powder is more expensive to produce but cheaper at sale point as it’s the oldest/original format and other types are sold on “convenience” so thus carry a premium.

Do you have a normal measuring jug/bakers scoop. 1/3 of a cup should cover most loads.

Thank you both!
Do I need to mix the powder with water before adding to the drawer? (feeling not-so bright suddenly!)

I just tip some into the drawer, or if feeling fancy will pour some into a dose lid from some liquid cleaner then tipit into the drawer. No need to add water, the washing machine does all that.

brownelephant · 04/04/2018 07:31

no need to mix with water.
I put the powder directly into the drum

dementedpixie · 04/04/2018 07:41

Powder goes in the drawer dry. I got a scoop by ordering online. Think details were on the box. I Use around 100mls for a full wash

ParadiseLaundry · 04/04/2018 07:52

I use one of those pink Vanish scoops to measure out the powder and use a bit less than recommended to save money the environment etc.

niceberg · 04/04/2018 07:53

demented are you in a hard water area?

ridinghighinapril · 04/04/2018 07:55

Ok great - the pics on the side of the box made it look like it was liquid & needed to be mixed with water but had never come across this with any other powder so thought this rather odd. Just switched to Fairy as I think DS is sensitive to Method Sad

No I'm not in a hard water area but have a 9kg drum

Flomy · 04/04/2018 08:10

I use an old beaker. Approx 1/4 of a mug.

In the drawer or in the drum.

piercinggelo · 04/04/2018 08:11

I have never measured this in my life. I just put 'some' in. If it's a full load I use more than if it's a smaller load, but yes, just 'some'

Alwayscheerful · 04/04/2018 08:52

I use an espresso cup.

I did this but at first the clothes didn't smell of anything - not a problem per se, except the reviews rave about the Fairy smell, so thought I wasn't putting enough and my clothes may not actually be clean.
Now I put a lot more and am wondering if I am effectively pouring money into the washing machine. So I decided to read the instructions and here I am....Confused

Fairy does smell relatively nice, but as it’s USP is sensitive/gentle, in theory it shouldn’t leave the strongest smell. However, if you are looking for a nice Fairy smell, use in conjunction with Fairy Fabric softener.

But saying that, if DS is possibly intolerant to Method, he may not fare well with softener .

Also may not be relevant, but I recently tried the new “Neutral” detergent line (completely scent free), it made me tear my skin to shreds, even involving doctor visits and steroid cream. Also I’m allergic to E45, so if you’re struggling with someone with sensitive skin, the products aimed at/sold on being sensitive aren’t always the right ones. It’s really trial and error.

justdontknow45 · 04/04/2018 15:23

I've never looked Shock I use a scoop from my vanish powder!

gobbin · 05/04/2018 23:09

We use an old kitchen measuring spoon (tablespoon) which says it holds 15ml. Three to four of these in each wash (45-60ml).

MirandaWest · 05/04/2018 23:10

I use an old beaker and put a bit in Grin. Put it into the powder drawer

minniemummy0 · 06/04/2018 20:10

I was so confused by this post as I thought Fairy came with a measuring cup. I asked my partner about it and he said no, that measure came with his iron. Proof I’ve never opened a new box. Good job I’ve never finished one too as I would have put the measure into the plastic recycling Grin By the way, I checked my box and I don’t think you can send away for a measuring cup anymore, there weren’t any details about it.

ridinghighinapril · 08/04/2018 22:59

Grin minnymummy0!

Thanks all for your replies- I shall stubbornly stick with the powder and use some other measuring thingy!

I also looked for measuring details and like you could get nowhere. I always put the detergent directly into the machine. I was told to do this years ago by Bosch. I reverted to using Fairy non bio and their measuring cup is on top of the container.

dementedpixie · 09/04/2018 18:46

You're taking about liquid if it's on the top. I don't like liquids but have a plastic scoop for my powder

dementedpixie · 09/04/2018 18:48

My bold box says go to www.bold2in1.co.uk for info and a scoop.

dementedpixie · 09/04/2018 18:50

Weird as my phone doesn't like that web address
