Robot vacuum cleaner

Tryingtokeepfit · 25/03/2018 11:53

I'm in search of a robot vacuum cleaner for our relatively small downstairs, hardfloor.

I don't trust the Amazon reviews. So I'd like to ask if any of you have one, what brand and if you recommend it or not?

I know it won't be able to get everything and I'll need to do a quick hoover around the edges where it won't be able to get to.

Roomba without a doubt, at least the 800 series, totally worth the money.

Tryingtokeepfit · 25/03/2018 17:15

dragongirl oh great.
What type of floor do you have? And does it take a lot of maintenance?

Get one! Get one now! With super speedy fast delivery.

I didn’t want one at all but dh is in charge of hoovering but I wouldn’t be without it now.

We’ve got carpet and LVT.

I had a cheap Vileda one and it was fine but then broke within a few months. I have a Rooba 650 now and love it.

branstonbaby · 25/03/2018 18:05

Love our roomba. It has been abused horribly (4kids) and youngest even uses it as a ride along toy but still going strong after 2 years. Highly recommend.

Dragongirl10 · 25/03/2018 18:53

I have tiles with large rugs, and carpet upstairs, but little clutter!

It tackles 95% of dirt even corners, we have a dog and 2 dcs and a large garden so lots of dirt!

You need to declutter for best results, tie up wires as that is the only thing it will tangle on.

I use mine daily, l wipe surfaces puit kitchen chairs up on table set it off as l go on school run and it is done when l come back, then l set ti on other rooms.

AlpacaLypse · 25/03/2018 18:56

Can Roombas cope with uneven floors, like this 17th century house where if you put a tennis ball down anywhere on the floor it will roll off?

SavoyCabbage · 25/03/2018 19:06

I would imagine so. They clamber up on to rugs and from one surface to another.

SharpLily · 25/03/2018 19:07

Definitely NOT the Vileda one. I have no idea how a product this underdeveloped made it to the open market. When I wrote to Vileda, essentially telling them how crap it was, they replied that it was never going to be very good because it's cheap! It's worse than not very good, it's probably the worst thing I have ever bought. It cannot cope with obstacles, leaves behind at least half the dirt and gets very confused very quickly. An unmitigated disaster.

MultiGrey · 25/03/2018 19:09

I bought a cheap Pifco one and regretted it. It broke after a few days so I sent it back and got a basic roomba. It is bloody brilliant.

House gets cleaned a lot more than it ever would without it as you just push a button and leave it to do it's stuff.

TheBitterBoy · 25/03/2018 19:10

Roomba! I have the 605 which is first on the list Savoy linked to and it is life changing.

fascinated · 25/03/2018 19:11

Roomba

Ours was c.230 quid and it is amazing

ILikeBigBumpsAndICannotLie · 25/03/2018 19:13

I would say don't buy the Miele, I've regretted mine since. Customer service was awful when I pointed out my problems with it. I want the Roomba .... one day.

Doublechocolatetiffin · 25/03/2018 19:20

I have the Neato botvac connected which we’re reallyed pleased with. I chose it in preference to the Roomba because it had a much better cleaning algorithm so actually maps the floor and cleans systematically rather than just bumping around randomly (although I have a feeling some of the latest Roombas do that too).

It means it can cover my large downstairs (2,000 sq ft) in one charge and will also clean in the dark. Some of the others don’t do that - it means mine runs every morning before I wake up when the room is free of toys!!

You do have to clear the floor every night if you want it to run daily, but it’s been good for us to get into the habit of clearing the toys away!

I paid £450 for it (found a good deal) 2 years ago and touch wood it’s still going strong, despite knocking something over and vaccuming up a load of water last week! Oops.

Strippervicar · 25/03/2018 19:21

Yes, get a Roomba. Ours is called Roger and it is great. Ours has a function where he will go round in a circle for spot cleans. Good for mud and crumbs.
Use ours on vinyl, laminate and carpet. Clear surfaces first at let him fo his biz.

I just wish he had a wife called Rita who was capable of doing stairs.

fuzzyfozzy · 25/03/2018 19:41

I got an eufy off amazon. I'm sure a more expensive one would be better but I love it

Tryingtokeepfit · 25/03/2018 20:11

Savoy cabbage that's a great price too!

Thank you sharolilly multigrey and ilikebigbumps that's really helpful to know the ones that aren't worth trying too!

Roomba seems to be popular! Although there is quite a wide price range
£250 www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B009Z1YJHU/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=roomba&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1522004962&sr=8-11

£579 www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01IEEVDOK/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ref=plSrch&keywords=roomba&dpPl=1&dpID=51ischiz2lL&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1522004962&sr=8-4

The Eufy is only £209.

I think £259 is the max I can spend. Possibly £300.

Hmmm

I started a thread in this a while back but got no response - glad I've found you all!

I too was wondering about the wide price bracket? I've not got pets but I do have toddlers. Tiny house mind... what would you recommend?

Dragongirl10 · 25/03/2018 21:11

Roomba 800 series and above, are the best, although more expensive as the battery life is much longer, suction better and dust bucket bigger.

If possible save for one of those, however l cannot see any advantage in the 900 series

TittyGolightly · 25/03/2018 21:12

We have an eufy.

I’d leave DH for it.

I've got the Roomba 605 which SavoyCabbage linked to - bought it from the same place, too - some kind person linked it on here a few months ago.

I absolutely love it. If it broke tonight I'd be ordering another. Under £200!

It's quite a simple model I think - it does have a precipice sensor, but no fancy programmes - which I didn't want. I work downstairs and the Roo takes care of upstairs - one room at a time - I empty him every so often and clean long hair off his brushes and set him off again.

Best 'gadget' I ever bought.

purplegreen99 · 26/03/2018 09:35

How do these cope with rugs - do they choke on the tassles like a normal hoover would?

TittyGolightly · 26/03/2018 15:43

We only have short pile rugs and eufy copes brilliantly with them.
