How on earth do you clean shower screen?

Mine has never ever been clean. Ever. I can’t get it clean. Even when I think it’s clean it’s still covered once it’s dry. We live in an extremely chalky area. Any tips?

Mini squeegee used every time after shower. Then viakal the hell out of it every few weeks. We have very hard water so loads of limescale.

DramaAlpaca · 22/03/2018 22:17

Vinegar! Plain white vinegar, not white wine or brown malt. Your shower will smell like a chip shop but the screen will be spotless Grin

Leave viakal on for 5 mins then use the scourer side of a washing up sponge to gently clean it, rinse, then ecloth to dry it.

Viakal, leave for ten mins, rinse, then white vinegarr and rub with kitchen paper. You can thank me later Grin

BrownTurkey · 22/03/2018 22:19

I just spray Method shower cleaner on it every time. It dries sparkly clean. I spray the mirror and taps with it now too after I clean them.

GissASquizz · 22/03/2018 22:19

I ripped mine out and went back to the trusty shower curtain.

Bananalanacake · 22/03/2018 22:20

Will do. I only hope viakal is available in Germany.

Juells · 22/03/2018 22:20

I don't live in a hard water area, so it may not work for you, but I squeegee the water off before getting out of the shower, then after I'm dried and dressed spray with Tesco Daily Shower Mist.

Nannyplumssillyoldelf · 22/03/2018 22:21

Baby shamppp, a little squirt on a wet cloth then buff with kitchen roll.

formerbabe · 22/03/2018 22:22

The Lidl limescale remover is brilliant.

INeedNewShoes · 22/03/2018 22:25

Microfibre cloth.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 22/03/2018 22:26

It is hopeless, just give up Grin

I live in.an area that is so chalky, big clumps of white chalk literally lie all over the countryside, clumps as big as your fists. Guests are always fascinated (and take some home for their kids)

My house is covered in lime scale, despite using viacal AND vinegar AND squeegee AND Method Sad

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 22/03/2018 22:28

I use Viakal at the moment. I leave it for about 30 minutes and then climb in and scrub it. It looks clean and does get cleaner but when it dries it still has loads of lime scale!

When I go to a hotel the screens are spotless. How is this possible?!

OP posts:
wowfudge · 22/03/2018 23:44

Because they clean them every day and are not in the same hard water area?!

Ohyesiam · 22/03/2018 23:48

IMO squeegee then newspaper

Tuttytoffee · 22/03/2018 23:55

The only thing works for me is... shampoo. Lather it up and scrub, rinse and then spray glass cleaner on and buff dry with kitchen roll.

Bowerbird5 · 23/03/2018 05:24

I used a mixture of Fairy liquid one part to two/ three parts vinegar and that worked very well but asked a cleaner who uses Mr Muscle glass cleaner and tried it last week.It is excellent.

ivykaty44 · 23/03/2018 05:28

I just use a cleaning product and a small nail brush to remove the dirt, the nail brush won’t scratch the glass

Maybeicanhelp · 23/03/2018 05:46

Neat stardrops on a slightly damp cloth works for me. Needs to be rinsed off and dried / buffed with an old towel.
And like PP, a soft brush for stubborn areas. I use an old toothbrush.
I do the same for taps, sinks etc. We are in a hard water area.

orangetreesinwinter · 23/03/2018 05:54

Once you've got it clean what I do every time I use the shower (we're in a very hard water area):

  • scrub with an eco cloth
  • scrape water off with squeegee
  • wipe remaining water off with a towel

It's a bit of a hassle but it means I never have to clean in the shower at any other time and after 2 years there is no lime scale on it. (I do the tiles too)

yikesanotherbooboo · 23/03/2018 05:56

Squeegee then method spray every time.
Viakal occasiinally I'd build up around edges

DryHeave · 23/03/2018 05:58

Squeegee every day.

I also have a dedicated cleaning head for my electric toothbrush to get into those difficult bits that even a standard toothbrush won’t touch.

Tryingtokeepfit · 23/03/2018 05:59

I wondered this for ages until I saw a similar thread on MN!

Squeegee after every shower and my magic cure is a spray bottle of HG limescale remover!

We live in a very very hard water area and HG is absolutely amazing, you see the limescale melt away
