Hate our Cordless Dyson

loulou2kent · 15/10/2017 15:11

So we've finally decided that we don't like the cordless Dyson. It doesn't seem powerful or sucky enough. We also cant vacuum the whole house in one go. We clean filter etc regularly too.

Has anyone switched from the Dyson to another make & found it better?

We actually don't mind if it's not cordless as we will keep the Dyson for the stairs & cars etc.

Thanks in advance!

I think your right. I'm going to ring Dyson tomorrow& see what they suggest. We've just had a corded Shark delivered. Going to try it out & see how the suction is. Can't wait. I want Hoover marks on the floor! Haha

safariboot · 16/10/2017 18:47

IIRC the suction is a bit meh on 'normal'. Basically I always use max unless I'm cleaning something delicate. Of course max runs the battery down, but it's still enough to do a couple of rooms before a recharge.

twodoors · 16/10/2017 19:02

G ram... incredible. More powerful than our corded dyson and battery lasts 30 mins. Had 2 cordless dysons before and both broke.

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 16/10/2017 19:09

I have Shark Rocket Deluxe Powerhead. Fantastic. Seriously amazing. As good as they claim on the demo, if not better. Definitely knocks my corded Dyson out of the park - it's like the difference between a hand held brush and pan and a regular vacuum.

squiz81 · 17/10/2017 12:13

We ended up sending the dyson v8 back. The max setting wouldnt work on 2 of our upstairs carpets, and they're not even a particularly deep pile.

I do miss it, it was great for a quick clean up, and i really miss the small turbo head, it was amazing on our fabric sofas - but overall i couldnt justiy the cost of it when it didnt work upstairs. Plus i wanted it on max all the time and that drained the battery too much.

My parents have the gtech. I dont like that you need 2 machines, and i didnt think the smaller hand held one was as good as thr dyson. There is an advert at the moment for a cordless and it says its better than the gtech, but i cant remember the brand. Any ideas??

KoalaD · 17/10/2017 12:17

I bloody love my Dyson V6 Animal. It's brilliant.

I have a dog, but hard floors throughout.

I have one and don't find the charge a problem (4 bed house, but don't do upstairs as much) but can't even do the downstairs before having to empty it. That is everyday and we do have a hairy dog. It gets clogged up, too. The only upside is that DH seems to like it and has discovered its purpose.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/10/2017 13:19

They definitely need emptying after every use.

Stan18 · 17/10/2017 22:47

I’ve got the Vax Blade 24v Cordless. I had a Miele pet bagged machine before which I thought was fab but just a pain for doing the house with (heavy & corded!).
I used the Blade for the first time on my lounge rug (light beige, in a home with an 8yo, 5yo, 4m old AND a dog...imagine!) and after using it, it was a different colour! It must have been its original colour 🙄😂
It makes my life easier as I’ve possibly got arthritis in my ankles so getting all the floors, skirting boards and cobwebs done in one go is fab.
It’s strangely satisfying to see all the dirt as you empty it in to the bin.. OH laughed when I said I loved it!

Think the ad you're thinking of might be the shark rocket cordless.

I've got its predecessor and its good.

colleysmill · 18/10/2017 17:21

I think, like a lot of things, it's about picking the right tool for the job.

I love my dyson v6 for tidying up after the kids, the quick daily whizz round the downstairs for making the place look less like ww3 happened over breakfast and that someone cares about the place. For a bigger weekly clean i like to use my Henry.

Horses for courses :)

EcoCleaner · 19/10/2017 10:39

Cordless Vacs are great for day to day quick pick ups. They're not suitable for a full deep clean - you'd be amazed at what they leave behind.
There's a reason why full sized vacuums are as big as they are

ppeatfruit · 19/10/2017 13:59

Yes Eco Our Roomba not only leaves crumbs behind , it ADDS to the crumbs if we forget to replace the brush! It comes with replacement brushes and it certainly needs them!

I'm fed up with our cordless Dyson too it certainly can't cope with our dusty ancient house, without filling up fast, that has 2 cats (one a fluffy bugger). Who makes The Shark rocket?

Sammysquiz · 19/10/2017 18:15

I’ve just bought a cordless Shark and it’s bloody amazing. Better suction than my corded one!

Orangebird69 · 19/10/2017 19:12

That's my theory too Eco. I like to take my time when vacuuming. The thought of running out of battery power before I'm done fills me with horror tbh 😱

EcoCleaner · 19/10/2017 21:45

Shark are a company in their own right. They're American. I got to test one not so long back, good cleaner but I found it a little awkward to use.

Best vacuums I've used without going into the very high end £1000 stuff are Sebo's. They use them a lot in hospitals and hotels as they're so reliable.

We've got a Vorwerk VK200 which was £1499 for the full kit but it's the most fantastic piece of kit I've ever had. It does everything. Mops and vacuums at the same time, even cleans the windows. Vorwerk do finance packages so we paid for it monthly. Totally worth it.

ppeatfruit · 20/10/2017 09:16

Yes orange I've taken to spraying with a natural cleaner and using a very stiff broom (like a scrubbing brush on the end of a stick) esp. on our rugs , it works very well and uses up calories into the bargain!

MsJolly · 20/10/2017 09:19

I have the gtech k9-it's amazing and battery lasts for 40mins so I can do the whole house and it's v powerful-it leaves stripes on the carpet!

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 20/10/2017 19:07

Shark is the company. I can't comment on the cordless versions, but as I said upthread, we love our corded one. We have the ' rocket powerhead' (link on my post uptgread). It is frighteningly good. My carpets have never looked so good and it brings the pile up like new. It comes with a brush for hard floors as well - not only does it clean up dust/crumbs etc, but it gently buffs the floor too. My mum has one, we have one and have just bought one for DC to use in their flat. On the video demo, they claim that it will suck up dust from below a carpet - they chuck a load of flour u see a rug and show the machine ducking it all through the rug. I can confirm that we tried this and it does actually do exactly as they claim! If you are not wedded to a cordless model, I really do recommend it - at the price it is really unbeatable.

ppeatfruit · 21/10/2017 14:48

Is it bag free Banana? We're checking it on line now. Thanks everyone!

Sammysquiz · 21/10/2017 20:59

This is the cordless Shark I have. It is absolutely brilliant!

Justabadwife · 21/10/2017 21:37

I love my dyson v6. I was genuinely upset when it stopped picking up last week, turns out I had hoovred up a 2p and it had wedged itself in the pipe. 😠 anyway after DH fished it out we were good to go.
Mine is brill if i do the whole house everyday because there is very little muck to pick up. But if I dont Hoover for a few days I do run out of charge half way through the house. 😁😁

SpinnerDryer · 21/10/2017 21:42

I have the Bosch Athlet which is fab.

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 22/10/2017 16:27

Yes, it has a canister in the head section. It does fill quickly but is so easy to remove and empty that we don't find it a problem at all. It can be emptied without having to get your hands dirty at all, we just do it after every use. Be warned if you do get it - it's so efficient that you will probably never want to walk barefoot on your carpets again!
