What do you iron

Hello,

Just wondered what items you iron.

We don't do 'the ironing' we iron stuff before we put it on as not everything needs it.

My inlaws however iron their bedding, tea towels and underwear

Just wondered how far your ironing goes

Nothing really. The odd outfit for work - once a month. If something needs ironing I'll generally wear something else.

I ironed DH shirt on Saturday for a wedding. The last time I ironed a shirt/anything for him was last November for another wedding.

Lislou123 · 03/10/2017 12:41

i iron my bed linen, i.e. pillow cases, duvets but not the bottom sheet and my hubby's work shirts but i can usually get another wear out of the bed linen once it's washed as it tends not be be as creased so i can put it straight back on

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty · 03/10/2017 12:43

Hama beads.

And slightly damp school uniform when it's needed that morning!

Otherwise nothing. School shirts go under a blazer, polo shirts are shaken and smoothed on the line, I wear jeans and a t shirt most of the time and any creases can be covered with a jaunty scarf.

I struggle to keep on top of the laundry as it is, I don't understand how people have time for ironing on top of everything else!

MusicToMyEars800 · 03/10/2017 12:45

School Uniforms and DP's work shirts.. that's it!
It's hard enough just keeping the washing basket down and getting the clothes put away when they are dried Grin

Grimmfebruary · 03/10/2017 12:46

I iron my dp's jeans, t shirts abs shirts, purely because he is a xxl in clothes so they look like shit if I don't. Also iron his ds clothes.

Don't bother to iron much of my stuff and I despair of my nana ironing bedding and underwear 😂

CandyMelts · 03/10/2017 12:52

I don't iron, DH does and I've slowly been weaning him off stuff as it takes so long. He no longer does towels, tea towels or underwear and only irons top side of duvet covers Hmm
I also take out anything of mine that really doesn't need it, lots of work dresses are a material that creases just drop out, gym stuff, leggings etc. He does all of his through...

Spam88 · 03/10/2017 12:52

I iron the babies clothes and DH cracks out the iron every year or so when we have a wedding.

My MIL was ironing muslin cloths the other day...

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 03/10/2017 12:55

I iron the babies clothes

Why does a baby's clothes need ironing?!

wowfudge · 03/10/2017 12:55

I don't. Most stuff is tumble dried and hung up or folded and put away without. We take the things that need ironing to a local launderette with an ironing service. Best money spent!

Crispsheets · 03/10/2017 12:57

Only my own clothes.
Nothing else and nobody else's.

SleepFreeZone · 03/10/2017 12:58

Work shirts and that's pretty much it.

happygirly1 · 03/10/2017 12:59

I don't iron:

Casual clothes only worn in the house (read: slops!)
Bedding
PJs
Underwear
Leggings

I do iron:
DH's work shirts
General daywear (tshirts, jeans, trousers, blouses, etc)

All DDs clothes gets ironed though, I'm a bit fussy on that one. So all sleepsuits, vests, clothes. I'm sure I'll grow out of that one if I have a second though!

To be honet, I've never really thought about it - my mum ironed everything so I did as I thought that was the norm and now I'm in the routine.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 03/10/2017 12:59

Shirts, linen trousers, handkerchiefs, pillowcases and anything cotton/linen that still looks creased after drying on a hanger.

TranquilityofSolitude · 03/10/2017 13:00

It depends to some extent on what things are made from. We have 100% cotton bedding so it needs ironing unless it's a windy day (I don't have a tumble drier - that's probably also a factor!). I don't iron the DC bedding because it's polycotton and doesn't crease in the same way.

I iron most things, though, Tea towels, boxer shorts (again, they're cotton and are badly creased when they come out of the machine), tops, shirts, trousers...

PandorasXbox · 03/10/2017 13:02

As little as I can. I iron all school shirts and trousers, DH's work shirts, T shirts and blouses and everything else to a large degree gets folded and put away after drying.

ijustwannadance · 03/10/2017 13:08

I iron name labels in uniform once a year or if i'm making something with sewing mahine and need to flatten seams.

DP irons his work shirts and now DD's school blouses whilst there.

Just don"t see the point in ironing bedding etc.

Spam88 · 03/10/2017 13:09

whattodo I just iron her dresses and some of her t-shirts and rompers that are prone to creasing. I don't iron babygrows or anything.

Lotsawobblybits · 03/10/2017 13:09

I only iron:-
Work tops/shirts
Casual tops
Trousers
Jeans

If it were up to DP we wouldn't even iron that, however, I always feel smarter when ironed & love a pressed crease.

Don't Iron:-
Gym Gear
Undies/socks
Sheets/Tea Towels/Bath Towels/Sheets
PJ's/Slobbing clothes
T-shirts/vests

DeadButDelicious · 03/10/2017 13:09

Bugger all. Grin

Spam88 · 03/10/2017 13:10

I should add that we only bought an iron after DD was born (although I did have a cheap old one that I've taken with me everywhere I've moved since I left home in 2007 which I think was used once in 2011 for an interview).

Rafflesway · 03/10/2017 13:11

Anything that still has any crease at all after being tumble dried I'm verging on OCD with regards to creases 🙄 but definitely all bed linen apart from fitted bottom sheets.

WhereYouLeftIt · 03/10/2017 13:38

I iron a lot of stuff, but - underwear? They iron underwear?

I do iron bedding, because I like it to look that way. Teatowels - depends if they're going into the cupboard (yes) or straight into use (no).

I should probably point out I use an ironing press Blush, so a lot quicker and easier than an iron.

And I did get DS ironing his own clothes a couple of years ago, in preparation for independence. It was up to him whether he ironed his clothes or not (I did show him how to hang while still damp, pull collar etc. straight to minimise the need.)

sundayfeeling · 03/10/2017 13:48

Hama beads GrinGrinGrin

Same here

outofmymind26 · 03/10/2017 13:56

Pretty much everything gets ironed here. Do two 1 hour sessions of ironing a week. I don't iron pants or knickers, bras or socks, but do iron the kids vests. It's just become part of the routine in our house. Wish I didn't care though as I do hate ironing.

VioletCharlotte · 03/10/2017 14:14

I quite like ironing (sad, I know!). I tend to do it in a Sunday evening while catching on up in TV I've recorded. I iron most things except underwear, towels, bedding and anything stretchy (gym stuff, leggings, etc) or shiny (DS football kit).
