Hoover think it's fine for a BASTARD heat pump dryer to take EIGHT HOURS to dry a load

Can I have a rant please? It would please me greatly if even one person was dissuaded from buying this godawful bastard dryer.

Which one? well that would be the Hoover Dynamic Mega DMHD1013A2 Freestanding Heat Pump Tumble Dryer, 10kg Load, A++ Energy Rating, that's which one!

So, this fucker takes all day to dry a load. If you're not in the house to keep switching it back on, the clothes sit there damp in between cycles and come out musty. Ugh.

So I timed it. 4 hours 15 minutes to dry two bath sheets, a bath towel and a hand towel. Bearing in mind this is a 10kg drum, so is meant for larger loads, but this was a modest load.

The longest programme on the dryer is 'all towels' and is 3 hours. At 3 hours the towels are nowhere near dry so I switch it back on and keep checking it. It takes 4 hours 15 as I said above.

Bought in April from JL. JL say no problem, ring hoover and they'll send an engineer.

Hoover say, "yeah...these heat pump dryers can take longer you know, but we'll send an engineer for which you will be charged if there's no issues".

So, I check this - am I going to be charged because heat pump dryers are supposed to take more than four hours to dry a load? She says, "let me just check how long it should take... yes my manager says they can take up to eight hours to dry a load."

EIGHT HOURS

EIGHT HOURS

And the longest cycle is 3 hours, so you have to be in the house to keep switching it back on. Twice.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! What's the fucking point in that! I could get my five year old to blow on it and it would dry quicker.

EIGHT HOURS!! So anything less than eight hours is not an issue with the machine. No wonder these things are rated as energy efficient because we end up not using it!

I bought a Samsung 7kg heatpump dryer from JL a couple years ago, takes about 2 hrs to almost dry and residual heat leaves the clothes cupboard dry.

8 hrs is a joke and I'd be returning it.

I've not used a 10kg dryer, do they all take longer? Get a smaller one and use it several times a day!

TheFairyCaravan · 31/08/2017 15:50

Wtf?

I've got a cheap as cheaps Beko vented dryer. It drys 4 bath towels and 4 had towels in less than an hour. Our 10 year old Hotpoint dryer took an hour and a half. I'd take the bloody thing back.

TheFairyCaravan · 31/08/2017 15:51

*dries even Blush

Mummaofboys · 31/08/2017 18:01

I got one of those eco friendly washing machines, uses a tiny amount of energy per minute but the cycles take ages so I think it amounts to the same thing x

minnymoobear · 02/09/2017 08:22

I bought one a couple of weeks ago from Tesco and same bloody thing! 9 hours to dry a load!!
Am returning it as not fit for purpose

HelloSquirrels · 02/09/2017 08:43

Bloody hell you could hang them.outside on a slightly damp day and they'd still be dry quicker Grin

I feel your pain. My dryer is entirely useless. I haven't used it for about 2 years. It came with the house, less than a year old it was apparently. My arse. I see why the gits left it behind now, and it's equally useless washing machine pal. That takes fucking ages too.

MamaMagellanic · 02/09/2017 08:47

We had his problem with a heat pump dryer! We sent it back and got a normal one. Was trying to help the planet but with 2 loads a day, it'd take longer than my waking hours to dry the washing!

Currys customer service was fantastic.

Liiinoo · 02/09/2017 12:31

I don't know if this is true but a salesman in a shop in Ireland told us that upcoming EU regulations mean soon all dryers will have to use heat pump technology and also be condensers. That the traditional and vented machines are being phased out.

As I say I don't know if it's true or not but the thought of having to wait 2/3 (or even 8!!) hours for a load to dry panicked me so much that as soon as I came home I ordered a new traditional vented machine even though my old Miele probably still has a few years left in it.

I now have a redundant Miele sitting in the hall, but at least my drying is future proofed!

HopeAndJoy16 · 02/09/2017 12:43

My washing machine caught fire when I was 36 weeks pregnant... Set load to finish at 9am, came downstairs at 8.30 to a kitchen full of smoke. I never leave a washer on while I'm out now!

HopeAndJoy16 · 02/09/2017 12:44

But 8 hours is ridiculous! I would be kicking up a fuss and returning it x

Yewtown · 03/09/2017 17:39

Have you cleared both filters. If the second filter is not cleared my dryer takes a lot longer.

Yewtown · 03/09/2017 17:43

Sorry should have said the condenser.

JosephGetDownFromThere · 04/09/2017 22:33

I researched the new energy efficient ones before I bought my cheap as chips B rated Beko condenser sensor dryer.

They all took too long to dry their loads. The Beko dries most stuff in under 1 hour, as it is a sensor it tells me when it is dry. It has a 9kg capacity.

I couldn't cope with constantly checking if the washing was dry. But I will say I did see a big difference when I upgraded my 1200 spin washing machine to a 1400 spin one.

I would try to return yours to JL.

RupertPsmith · 05/09/2017 21:18

Please please please don't leave your tumble dryer running while you go out or overnight. It's how my friend's house burnt down.

myusernamewastaken · 07/09/2017 09:38

Omg all of your electricity bills must be huge...im still drying all our washing outside.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 07/09/2017 09:41

It's not a heat pump dryer problem- we've got a A++ rated Beko heat pump dryer and it takes at most 3 hours. And that's for a huge load.

gamerchick · 07/09/2017 09:44

Slight derail here - but do you guys all use the tumble dryer only when you're at home?????

A terrifying statement disguised as a question ^ Grin

Never leave washing machines, driers and dishwashers to run unattended. It's stupid and if your house burns down insurance may not pay out.

OP chuck that thing out and buy one that works properly.

tickingthebox · 07/09/2017 09:46

I have a Samsung Heat Pump dryer and mum has a Bosch and neither take longer than 3 hours for a very large load.

I used to have a Hoover washing machine - worst washing machine ever! had to get rid of it....

girlwhowearsglasses · 07/09/2017 09:53

Yanbu!

I had one (Bosch or AEG I think) that cost £500 and was a heat pump one. Similar results. Pointless excercise.

Threw it out and bought a cheap Zanussi tumble dryer and a Lakeland heated airer. Especially since our friends house burnt down after he left one on...

Nan0second · 07/09/2017 09:58

Aeg here. Dry easily in 2-3 hours. I put it on overnight (rebel)

BASTARDdryer · 08/09/2017 08:49

Update for all those interested in my dryer ishoos:

As requested, I've been weighing my washing for a week Hmm and the BASTARD Hoover Dynamic Mega DMHD1013A2 Freestanding Heat Pump Tumble Dryer, 10kg Load, A++ Energy Rating, could dry 2kg of wet washing in 2 hours. That's one set of light single bedding.

4kg of washing (1 x SK duvet cover and 1 x towel) was still wet after 5 hours and I gave up and put it on the radiator.

What I would consider a normal family load, so 5 kg mixed joggers, kids t-shirts and underwear, also still damp after 5 hours.

BASTARD! What's the point? useless piece of shit.

Anyway, John Lewis are being super cool about it and will exchange it for me. I just need to choose one now. Thank fuck!

JL are great when the manufacturer is being useless. We got refunded for a laptop that took more than a month to repair.

Deej72 · 30/10/2019 14:10

I hate the heat pump dryer I bought for “economical” reasons. Thought it would save us some money, having 4 kids and huge amounts of laundry but like in previous posts I could have 4 loads of wet washing lined up to be dried because the first load of the day is still in the dryer 5/6 hours later.
I would never ever recommend anyone to buy one.

SCha5193 · 11/05/2021 19:08

I have just bought a Hotpoint heat pump tumble dryer . I wish I had never bought it. Takes an age to dry clothes - 4 hours and still not dry if the load is towels. Plus you have to clean two filters and one of them is down by the floor. So difficult to bend down especially if you are pregnant or old! Plus it only tumbles clockwise instead of reverse action so clothes get creased and tangled. So if anyone is thinking about getting a heat pump tumble dryer please think again!

myusernamewastakenbyme · 11/05/2021 20:10

Never mind your wet washing op....how much is your electric bill???
