What is the best vacuum cleaner?

Just that really every Hoover that I have bought looses suction after a few minutes moths despite cleaning. Can anyone recommend one with high suction that doesn't loose power

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out vacuum cleaners, so here's the best vacuum cleaner on the market as recommended by Mumsnetters.

Hope this helps! Flowers

Aha I just bought a new one day and have been vacuuming everywhere since I got it home. I got a numatic Henry, it has really strong suction and good reviews. His wee smiley face is an added bonus Grin

I have a Shark, I love it

Crumblevision · 27/08/2017 20:24

I have just bought a Shark Rocket. It's awesome. Knocks spots off my old Dyson

DurhamDurham · 27/08/2017 20:27

My trusty old Dyson died a few weeks back and we were swayed to buy a Shark as they were on special offer on Amazon. It's brilliant, cleans all floor coverings v well. Only negative is the small cylinder which has to be emptied more frequently than the Dyson.

JD360 · 27/08/2017 20:55

I was thinking Henry and I have never heard of a shark I will google it now thank you ladies I was afraid I wouldn't get a reply it's my first time posting

A Sebo every time. I have had mine for about 17 years and it still picks up brilliantly. I have the upright and changing the bags, which take ages to fill up, is a dream. Bags come with caps to put on before removal so no dust and very clean operation. Which still put them on top of their list of vacuum cleaners.

TwigTheWonderKid · 05/09/2017 10:05

My last Miele lasted 15 years and would still be going strong had DH not used it to vacuum up a load of builder's rubble. Suction is so strong on our new one that we can't have it on the highest setting!

InteriorLulu · 05/09/2017 10:17

I swear by Dyson. I gave my first one to my mum as we bought a vax, which turned out to be utter crap, so I bought another Dyson, DC25. It has had a very a hard life because DD doesn't clear her floor before vacuuming, she just sucks the lot up.

I've had it apart a couple of times due to the above, and it's by far the easiest to dismantle and put back together.

But (also based on the above) don't believe the 'never loses suction' hype Grin...sometimes it's defeated by the crap on certain bedroom floors.

DraughtyWindow · 05/09/2017 12:29

Miele Cat & Dog all the way!

Orangebird69 · 05/09/2017 12:34

Miele cat and dog. I have the C2 currently. DM has my old one. Marvellous vacuum cleaners, I wouldn't buy any other.

Alakazam7 · 05/09/2017 19:57

Just bought a shark lift away. It's the best thing ever. Even has little lights so you can see what you are doing better. Have wooden floors and carpets, a very fluffy cat and children in and out and it handles it all beautifully. No comparison to any previous cleaners I've had. Would recommend to anyone!

Allthebestnamesareused · 05/09/2017 20:02

My Dyson just finally died and I too have gone for a Shark liftaway and it is amazing - far outperforms the Dyson anyday and so much easier to do stairs under things with the lift away function and switch between flooring types.

It was on offer and included a free steam mop too.

coupester · 06/09/2017 11:03

This board is exactly what I was after!

I have a Henry which is brilliant on the hard floors but absolutely useless on the rugs and carpets. I was looking at the Gtech multi as I'd still use the Henry on the hard floors, but I'm now going to look into Sharks and Miele!

Kimlek · 06/09/2017 14:45

Ooh I've not heard of shark or the cat & dog. We have a 'Hetty' (pink Henry) and it's fab other than having to get it out if the cupboard to vac just a few bits. Would love a lightweight cordless one for quick bits! Have had a Sebo - VERY expensive and heavy - gave it away. Also had a vac which was ok but Hettie/Henry heaps better! Anyone recommend a good cordless pls?

MrEBear · 06/09/2017 22:52

I have 2 Mieles both basic Miele models, an upright and cylender both are great. Although when my cylender dies I will replace it with a light weight cordless.

ShovellerDuck · 07/09/2017 20:03

Every time I've got a new vacuum I think it's brilliant but that's because they all lose suction after a short time and we go on using a crap machine for years.
Next time I want a cordless so I'm not falling over it on the stairs all the time.
Dysons are good but such awful colours.

bingohandjob · 09/09/2017 07:25

Sebo Felix. I love mine. It sucks!

dudsville · 09/09/2017 07:29

I've always had dyson. Recently bought a miele as had heard great things. It was instantly repackaged and returned. Not a spot of the dyson.

buggerthebotox · 09/09/2017 07:34

Another vote for Hetty! She's a bit awkward, being round, but has a looooong cord, sucks great and has nice big bags. And she's cute as a button.

LunarGirl · 09/09/2017 07:37

Definitely agree with others about the Shark Liftaway. I have a slight hoover obsession and have tried loads. The shark is the best one I've ever owned. Including Dysons and Henry. It switches seamlessly (well, the touch of a button) between carpet and hard floor. Suction is brilliant. Swivel head so can get under stuff so easily. The lift away function means I can reach places I definitely wouldn't be able to with a standard upright. The dusting brush attachment thing actually dusts and doesn't just push the dust around.

DH thinks I'm crazy cos I keep telling everyone about it but honestly, best thing ever (I don't work for them, promise) Grin
