Does anyone else hoover their patio?

It doesn't matter how much I sweep and hose, there is always some fine dust and stony residue in the cracks in the patio paving. My brilliant idea was to use my trusty Henry to hoover it all up as builders use him for their left over mess. It works an absolute treat. My top tip. I thank you

I'm glad it's not just me who does this. It's not dirt so much as bits of compost and old bits of leaves from the pot plants.

This, and hoovering out the ash from the fire place, is the only reason that I keep my Henry.

I find it saves me time to be honest!

Yes, I hoover my patio (and windowsills, around drainage pipes etc). I use an old Henry hoover which is only used outside. I do use a brush first though to get rid of any large stones, leaves and so on then the hoover finishes it off beautifully.

I Hoover the decking at the start and end of summer.

I do sweep too but we get a collection of dried up bits of leaves and so on that gathers outside the doors and it can get into the runners and cause problems with the sliding mechanism.

Hoovering between patio cracks?!

I've honestly heard it all now Grin

Saladd0dger · 01/09/2017 09:44

MY mum would love this thread lol. She hoovers everything. And she even has seperate Hoover for each 1, garage hoover, car Hoover, patio Hoover.... lol

Bluntness100 · 01/09/2017 09:48

I brush the patio a couple of times a year. Hose it down if watering the plants. Power wash it each spring, but good god, hoovering it?

If you find yourself hoovering the patio. Stop. Look around you. Give your head a wobble then go lie down in a darkened room till you've come to your senses..

You're welcome.

How rude. Canister vacs are fine for hoovering up stuff like that. If we had one I'd use it on the builder's crap between the cobbles on our patio.

Sisinisawa · 02/09/2017 11:34

I read about a Cafe Rouge where the staff vacuum the pavement before putting the tables out. It was a Henry.

ooerrmissus · 02/09/2017 11:53

DH does this. He has a special Karcher vac fir outside. Also a garage hoover.

As far as I'm concerned it keeps him quiet and out of trouble.

Also, my driveway is immaculate Grin

Davros, are you super houseproud? Do you Hoover the family down when they come in? Sorry to be cheeky. Couldn't resist it.
By the way, poor Henry is suffering in silence now but I suspect you are taking years off his life. I should imagine that builders who use poor old Henry keep him solely for that kind of task. House dust is completely different to the thicker, grittier stuff you find outside on your patio. I would suggest you give yourself a rest and not worry so much.

I use my leaf blower!

Use the "Blow" setting to raise everything to the surface and from behind planters, water butt etc. Then switch to "Suck" setting which vacuums it all up.

It was only about £20 from Aldi a few years ago and it is invaluable for jobs like this.

Davros · 06/09/2017 11:02

I am certainly not house proud, I just find that hoovering the patio once a summer does a much better job than all the sweeping and scraping which is much more labour intensive. It's not a sign of being TOO dedicated to cleaning the patio but LESS as it's quick and easy
