Tea-stained mugs

How do you remove tea stains from your mugs? I've been using bleach but when I mentioned this to my partner he freaked out. Obviously I wash them thoroughly afterwards. Is there a better way?

Bio washing powder dissolved in the mug will get rid of it. Stick the stained teaspoons in at the same time

Denture cleaning tablets remove the stains easily

Diluted Milton fluid does the job. I think it's some kind of bleach but as it's designed for sterilising baby's bottles, it's obviously ok for cups too.

Bleach - and then a good wash. If partner does not like it ask him to get scrubbing.

Yep steradent. Dissolve one in a mug full of boiling water and the stains just disappear.

I always use bleach. Drop of bleach in the bottom of the cup, top up with hot water, leave for a bit, rinse out and plonk in the dishwasher for a good wash.

a pan scoured and hot soapy water.
or some descaler spray, brush and rinse.
but usually the dishwasher does a good job of it.

when they don't come out clean out of the dishwasher it's time to re-fill the salt

Bicarbonate of soda and boiling water, leave overnight, stains will lift off, any stubborn stains will scrub off easily.

Another vote for bio washing powder (I find Persil best), all my mugs are white so I chuck the lot in the washing up bowl with a good scoop of powder and really hot water. Leave to soak for half hour or so then wash thoroughly, gets them sparkly white Smile

I've always used bleach and hot water, then into the dishwasher after they've soaked. Worked in a coffee shop for 2 years and they did the same there...

Thanks all! Will inform OH that my bleaching habit has been confirmed as acceptable and will also try the steradent and the washing powder suggestions

I've always used bleach and then dishwasher. We are in our 60s now so it hasn't got us yet!

I often put vanish washing powder in them with warm water and leave to soak for a bit, then wash them normally with fairy very thoroughly afterwards.

Bicarbonate of soda is very effective and non-toxic. I'd be wary of using bleach on a mug. Too much scope for accidents.

Just cleaning with a non-stick sponge scourer gets most of them. Magic eraser for the rest! Very satisfying.
