Ours has just broken down. It's a Samsung, 6 yrs old Shock.
It looks like the bearing has gone and drum broken and will cost almost same as new one to fix. Our previous WM was a Hotpoint and lasted 12yrs.

Would you recommend your model? I'm looking to spend about £300 no more. Anyone used a Zanussi before?

Haha, wobbly Below, I mean wobbly BEKO!

We have a miele but I seem to remember it being over a grand so not in budget but they do come up second hand and reconditioned. They're built to last and eminently repairable if needed.

I cannot fault it.

BubblesBuddy · 28/07/2017 09:49

I too would go Miele for a hassle free existence. We currently have a Siemens at home and its 15 years old. German and solid. I have Miele for most other appliances and my tumble drier is outstanding. I would investigate Siemens though. Our Indesit in a flat went wrong and leaked at 3 years old. Avoid!

I think you need to just get machine fitting your budget and accept that the lifespan will very likely be 3-5 years. I've been in my current house 10 yrs and I'm on my 3rd washing machine. Two previous - motors worn out due to volume of family washing. Both were Bosch costing £300-£350.

AllToadsLeadToHome · 03/08/2017 00:14

Have you found one yet?

I would NOT get a Bosch, have had a few over the years but the current one has started to pack up working after 2 years.

What I suggest is to look online and see which companies make the various 'names' - you will see that many of them are made by the same people and John Lewis are identical to another name.

I spent ages reading reviews before getting the last Bosch, about £450 but the thing is with reviews, they are not updated once the first flush of enthusiasm has faded so you don't get to find out that they break down in 2 years or start travelling round the room, or catch fire.

This will be my last Bosch machine, that includes also the crappy dishwasher that also cost way too much and the frost free freezer that fills with ice and the fridge that has only one temperature and freezes the greens.

I have a Whirlpool one. I bought it weeks after a Whirlpool dishwasher to match it. We now live in a house where the WM is not in the kitchen.

It has millions of settings and cleans well but when it goes on its fastest cycle, half of London can hear it.

I have a Miele too. It's crap. And as previous poster has said customer service is rubbish too. For a really really long time after I bought it it released a strong oil smell whenever it was on especially on a hot wash. I contacted them and they said it was normal and I just needed to run a "few" got washes with biological detergent. I don't use this and don't really want to use it in my machines as we have allergies and that type of washing powder is bad for the environment. They didn't give a toss about this. After a big argument they agreed to send me the powder. However I think that if a washing machine that costs £1000needs a few hot wash cycles before it doesn't release a god awful smell then that should be done in the factory not at the customers inconvenience and expense.

In addition, it regularly has a fault code appear when you turn it on. It takes all the detergent and then you have to turn it off and back in again. Apparently this is "normal" too.

AND it doesn't wash well. I regularly have to run things back through it. Plus it's making all my clothes go bobbly.

Not impressed at all.

Tribal - can I join your search for a new washing machine? I started a separate thread this evening about the noise my machine is making (sounds like gravel being tossed around), but then saw yours. A quick google suggests the problem may be the bearings so probably not worth repairing (but how do you know until you've paid the call out fee?)

Mine is a Bosch which we bought in January 2014 for £360. If 3-5 years is the average life for a washing machine these days then ours has probably had it. We're a family of 5 - all adults now - so the machine is on at least a couple of times every day. It's had to tackle dog towels and bedding and filthy rugby gear, as well as the usual stuff.

So - what to get now! I thought Bosch was a good make, but apparently not!

Toomuchcoffeetoday · 29/08/2017 02:12

Did you buy a new machine in the end. My 9 year old Bosch is on its last legs and I want a larger machine for our family. We do lots of washing and an allergy setting or steam option would be nice.

My Miele is less 2yo and has broken.(Most likely the drive belt)
Waiting for a repair , its taken over a week from contacting them to getting a booking for repair .

So hacked off Hmm
I was taken in with the hype too ,

krisskross · 21/06/2018 19:41

We've had a zanussi for 11 years literally never had a problem with it. It has a timer so you can delay the start if you want washing to end when you get up. Brilliant

krisskross · 21/06/2018 19:41

And it's a 7 kilo large one
