Ours has just broken down. It's a Samsung, 6 yrs old Shock.
It looks like the bearing has gone and drum broken and will cost almost same as new one to fix. Our previous WM was a Hotpoint and lasted 12yrs.

Would you recommend your model? I'm looking to spend about £300 no more. Anyone used a Zanussi before?

Our Miele came with a 10 year guarantee- so if you can afford the extra initially it can be worth it long term.

mikeyssister · 27/07/2017 12:37

Don't forget to look at the length of the wash cycle when you're choosing.

The last one we had did a great job but took 3 hours to do a wash. With 6 of us in the house it was a nightmare, because we have a lot of washing

BarbaraofSeville · 27/07/2017 12:47

We have a Zanussi. Seems to do the job and it's 11 years old so is lasting well. Cost £250 and spins at 1400. Takes 2.5 hours for a 40 cotton cycle though.

When it breaks I'll be looking for something quicker and investigating energy and water usage for different cycles as a lot of the quicker cycles use a lot more energy or you can't put a full load in so I'm not always sure what the benefit is.

TribalArts · 27/07/2017 12:59

Thanks everyone. I'm still reading all your comments. Just had plumber round who recommended Miele or Beko if on a budget.

My washing machine is on its last legs. I overloaded the drum and broke the bearings and now it sounds as if Concorde is flying over when I do a wash. It's a Zanussi and up until then was ace. It has a 1600 spin and sadly Zanussi no longer do 1600s.

Washing machine man who declared it too expensive to fix recommended Bosch - they now do cheaper range of machines. I had two Hotpoints that developed holes in the bottom after a year so I wouldn't touch them.

I still can't decide as I will only countenance a 1600 spin.

joannegrady90 · 27/07/2017 13:10

Mines a 8kg hotpoint paid £240 for it. It's awesome really quiet and does a great job.

I had a beko and indesit previously both shit wouldn't recommend!

joannegrady90 · 27/07/2017 13:11

I'd also recommend insurance . I pay 4.50 a month that includes a yearly service and deep clean.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/07/2017 13:30

Where is that from Joanne?

I never buy appliance insurance and consider it to be almost always a waste of money product sold to gullible fools, but £54 a year for an annual service and deep clean sounds almost worth it on it's own.

The worst thing about our 11 year old washing machine is that the seal is really grotty and it's gone past being able to clean it properly without any effort.

I've thought about replacing the seal but it looks really complicated on youtube - you've got to almost split the machine in half. If it was cleaned properly each year, it would be nowhere near as bad I'm not one for cleaning the washing machine seal every week or whatever the Mumsnet approved frequency is, never going to happen.

NothinButaGoodtime · 27/07/2017 13:34

We have a beko and it's fab.
Great value for money

Soozikinzii · 27/07/2017 13:51

Mines a zanussi Lindo 300 just from AO .Its the best washing machine I've ever had it has the 30 at30 button but I mainly use the synthetics setting which is 1 hour and has a full spin comes out nearly dry.

Soozikinzii · 27/07/2017 13:54

It says it's only a 1400 spin but I honestly can't tell any difference from my old machine that had 1600 it's also very quiet.

SaltLiquorice · 27/07/2017 13:57

Personally I've always had Bosch and I love them but the one I have at the moment is more cash than you want to pay.

If I had a £300 budget I'd probably go for a John Lewis one www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-jlwm1412-freestanding-washing-machine-7kg-load-a-energy-rating-1400rpm-spin-white/p669432

2 year guarantee. Can't go wrong.

SaltLiquorice · 27/07/2017 14:05

I'd not even consider insurance. What is there to "service" in a washing machine? Service wash every few months and bob's your uncle.

That's over £150 over three years. I'd rather pay £150 extra on a machine.

thenightsky · 27/07/2017 14:06

Bosch. Had it about 12 years. Never had it serviced.

RatRolyPoly · 27/07/2017 14:08

Don't buy a Beko if you have wooden floors. The counterbalancing is terrible so mine bounces like anything! Fine in all other respects, it just shakes the whole ground floor spinning anything heavier than a tea-towel.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/07/2017 14:10

Oh, I assumed a service was greasing and tightening some internal parts, like in a car, and with a washing machine would be something worth paying for.

SaltLiquorice · 27/07/2017 14:11

I've never in my life heard of a washing machine service and have never done it. I've had washing machines for 30+ years.

Missingsleepandthecat · 27/07/2017 14:11

I would like to point out that Indesit and Hotpoint are the same company...

JimmyGrimble · 27/07/2017 14:16

I've always had Bosch - my last one lasted for 12 years and I've just replaced it. The new one is lovely and quiet and has a magic time saver button on it. It cost £299 from Euronics including having the old one taken away and the new one fitted. Euronics contact local shops for supply and delivery so you're also supporting local small businesses.

SaltLiquorice · 27/07/2017 14:16

If you can go £50 more there's a good Bosch that's reduced from J Lewis

LondonHuffyPuffy · 27/07/2017 14:20

I replaced my 14 year old Hotpoint with another Hotpoint from ao.com

It's only 6 months old but so far so good. Lots of different programmes including a super quick fast wash, an allergy cycle (which I have, admittedly, never used) and a 1400 spin. It's pretty quiet.

I was impressed with ao.com, good customer service, good price. I bought a new Hotpoint tumble dryer at the same time (we live in a 3rd floor flat, no outside space before someone gets sniffy about tumble dryers). It's a condenser which I was a bit Hmm about but I love it.

TollgateDebs · 27/07/2017 14:26

We have a 14 year old, LG direct drive. Does what it says on the tin and been very pleased with it.

willymcwill · 27/07/2017 14:37

I have a new Samsung (the one with the door in the door!) and really rate it (and you can turn off the bubble soak of you want to). I'm impressed so far; it was a toss up between this and the equivalent Miele, so went for this (slightly bigger capacity than the biggest Miele).

I looked on Which and really Samsung and Miele stood out as the best in terms of reliability.

EskiVodkaCranberry · 27/07/2017 14:49

We've got a zanussi lindo 300 which we bought from ao because it does a 10kg wash... we call it shitface Blushbecause it doesn't wash! After a year it started to
